Need ideas for rasing $300 for our trip to WDW

You're right. Not all teens want or like to babysit. However, from the OP's previous posts it appears that her older children are used to caring for the younger ones. Much like the Duggar's "buddy system". Such expertise would be a selling point!

Good point. They could have quite the business, especially since they're home during the day. If they could do their schoolwork in the afternoon/evening, then they would be available for mornings if SAHMs had appts or whatnot. I know I am always looking for help in the morning to do stuff but have very few options except bring the kids along.

I'm looking forward to hearing what OP is doing to save the money!

I think you should get a job that can work around your husbands hours at work. That be the best way to get hopefully steady money.

I'm going to get a backlash on this one.. I know it. LOL
also I did not read the whole thread
but this is what I think..

If you don't have 300 dollars that's not being used on something else, you shouldn't be going on vacation at all.

Maybe I'm not understanding, for all I know you could be a million air and have some agreement that none of your reg income ever goes to vacation but that would be rare.

Did you really think this was an 11 page thread of suggestions and this had not been covered?

FTR, she is not a "million air" :rotfl2:

You aren't the only one saying it! And yes we'll get blasted for it . But even my hubby said it's foolish to go if you can't come up with $300 in 6 months.

I really don't think anyone is blasting the idea of it (forgoing the trip)....I think people are just getting a little hot and bothered over other opinions/views on their lifestyle.

No blasts from me anyway. If you can't afford it you can't afford it, and the OP already stated they need the CASH or they can't go......so even the OP isn't arguing that point.

The point was how to possibly raise that cash before going.

Our budget for our trip to WDW is $300.

4 nights at Fort Wilderness Campground in the value season = $198 (incl. tx)
All meals cooked at campsite = same price as eating at home = $0
One day at MK using GAD vouchers = $76.50 (for 3yo, who was too young to volunteer)

Other days spent at campground, DTD, or touring other hotels = $0
Total cost = $274.50 + gas (which someone has given us a gas card to help with that)

.?

I seriously would NOT tour DTD-all that is is a bunch of stores and since there is no $$ -what is the point?
Also going to other resorts would require 2 bus transfers-and besides walking in the lobby-what is the point?:confused3

I'd cut it back to 3 nights
Two full days-One day at MK & one day haing fun at the campground-pool etc

Good luck

I haven't read all the pages but my sister does mystery shopping and at first it only offered crappy jobs that she got a few bucks for but now that she's been doing it she gets all kinds of free stuff PLUS payment. So really you could make that work really well... she sometimes gets to buy a $10 shirt and get reimbursed plus she gets $10 for doing the shop... so if you sold the shirt on eBay new with tags, that'd be more money.

If you live near a meijer, they are having a deal next week that if you buy a $25 gift card, you get $5 off your next grocery trip. Buy 3 of those to pay for your one ticket and you can get $15 worth of free groceries. Not a bad deal. :)

Corporate Research International is the mystery shop she uses. Very reliable and she's always been paid. I've signed up but just didn't have time to go do it.

She had a 14 and 13 year old. I was babysitting 5 kids under the age of 8 by those ages. Do you think she never leaves them ever? :confused3 Does she take all 6 to the store to get groceries?

By us the fast food places are in such need of 10-2 shifts that they will bend over backwards for workers with kids. On top of that her entire trip is far less than a week. That would be easy to work into a part time (~3 days a weeks) schedule.

Plus this extra money could then be used to save some for a rainy day and a future trip.

I don't know what she does with her children, nor am I going to assume. I myself was babysitting full days for 6 kids at the age of 12. In hindsight I would never leave my 4 year old with a preteen that had 5 other kids to care for. I'm not opposed to working at all, I do it every day 40 plus hours a week to make things work. Other people do not for a variety of reasons and still seem to make things work. I think if this was a viable option the OP would have either responded to this suggestion by now or have found a job months ago. She seemed open to the idea of offering to babysit other kids so hopefully that will work for her.

I think its a bad idea to go to wdw when you dont have the 300.00 that is not going to anything else.I am not trying to be mean but I would be scared to death to go to wdw and not have a dime to spare if something happened. It would have been better to get a package and pay on it for about a year and have it paid BEFORE you go.We pay ours throughout the year (even though we dont have to) and by the time its paid we can use money out of our reg checking account for extra spending.WDW is not going anywhere, I hate for your free tix to go to waste BUT maybe its best if you pay a deposit and give yourself the year to pay it off (then have tix, maybe even free ddp and resort) then take your kids on a trip....you could do 2 values and if you could get free ddp you would save a ton of money.

I'm not the OP but at DtD her kids might enjoy seeing the Lego creations plus get their free chocolate sample at Ghirardelli. They will have a car so I don't understand the "two bus transfers" to get to the resorts.

I really wish folks would keep their opinions to themselves about whether the OP should take the trip at all...that is really none of our business. If she can take her family of 8 to WDW for a mere $300, the least we can do is give her some ideas and yes, moral support.

We need to hear from the woman in Kansas (Tinkerbell?) who has taken equally frugal trips.

Haven't read all the responses, but check your state's unclaimed property. We just did and found a few hundred!

Well ... the OP put the thread out there so IMO it's fair game to comment on the advisability of the trip. Sadly, we cannot control the direction a thread takes once it starts.

I thought of her too! That was TNKBELL. Her budget was a little higher: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=824539 and http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1618376. She spent about $200 per day.

OP, I hope you come back and tell us if you are able to make this happen for your family. Hopefully you havent' been back cause you have been busy doing extra yard work and babysitting, or anything else to make theis happen. Wishing you all the best...

Except that we have NO IDEA what the OP's budget looks like other than this particular trip is limited to $300.

I actually enjoyed touring the various resorts. AKL is my favorite and walking around and seeing the animals is like a little zoo trip for free! There was even a CM who came over and gave us a personal history of the animals and their habitat.

The kids liked walking around the POP century Toy Story themed resorts.

DTD equally is fun, even without cash. The OP might offer a McDonald's cone or something so they can have a small treat, but I love walking around and seeing the T-Rex restaurant inside and out, building for FREE at the Lego store and my kids liked racing their own built lego cars for free. Take a picnic lunch and sit by the water and watch people.

I would also suggest going over to Celebration. I don't know when they start their "snow nights" but we did that once (fake snow in the evening) and loved it.

There are things to do that are interesting, fun, and free around WDW.
