Help! This is the first year DS has had a male teacher and I'm having a hard time coming up with any great ideas. Any ideas?

gift card to Panera, target, borders, dunkin donuts........ to name a few.

DD had a male teacher 2 years ago and I got him a gift card to a bagel shop/deli near the school. He commented several times that he left it in his desk drawer and used it whenever he forgot to bring lunch!

A Wal-Mart gift card, usually our peppermint bark candy, and this year Wal-Mart had these really cool finger flashlights. 4/$5. Got enough for stockings and the guy teachers. DD is in H.S.!

Someone had also mentioned gift cards for car washes.

I was going to suggest this too! We live in a snowy/icy area, and in the winters, cars can just get gross. The Car Wash GC is perfect - and really - can be done for any amounts (little or lots).

Love the car wash certificate idea! If you want something more sentimental I think a Christmas ornament or a coffee mug would still be appropriate for a guy teacher.

My son has had many male teachers and I've always given restaurant gift cards.

My daughter has had male teachers the last couple of years. I have had her find out what his favorite sports team is and we've gotten winter gloves with the sports team emblem on them. They were actually nicer than I thought they were going to be when I ordered them from Amazon. I figured they would be those black stretchy ones, but they were much more durable...more like a work glove. Her teacher last year is a friend of our family and he told me he LOVED them! I think the ones I got were around $7-8 on Amazon with free shipping! We will be doing that again this year for her teacher.:santa:

For DD's male teacher, we gave him a rotating wooden desk caddy. His classroom was a bit short on space, and he was organizationally challenged so it was the perfect gift for him!

For my kids' male teachers I always give a $20 gift card to our liquor store where he can choose wine, beer or other alcoholic drinks for the holidays.
My kids say the comments are always very favorable.

I don't know why this strikes me as funny, but it does. :) Maybe it's because dh is a teacher, and some days it's enough to drive anyone to drink.

A teacher in my district could get fired for accepting this. I was once given a bottle of wine from a parent and I had to tell her I could not accept it.

My DH is also a teacher. His favorite student gift ever was one of those zero-gravity space pens (like the one from an episode of Seinfeld). It's small and fits right in the front pocket of his pants. He's always having to sign forms writing at strange angles. The pens work even in very cold temps and will write at any angle (up against a wall)without running out of ink.

Like this one:

Gift cards are also great. He gets excited if he gets a Best Buy gift card because he's always spending money there.

What not to get a male teacher:

A Christmas decoration or ornament

Knick-knacks for his desk. Most men are not into these. He usually gives them to me and I put them on my desk!

Coffee mugs or hot cocoa tins/packets

Anything you'd find in the holiday gift aisle at Target -- like the Smucker's ice cream sundae cups with the toppings, the giant tins of popcorn and other tins and boxes of food that you only see during the holidays.

I'd recommend not getting those types of things.

First year for a male teacher too. We got him a tervis tumbler with lid from BB&B. Filled it with candy and a restaurant gift card. We got one with his initial but they had them with sports teams, hobbies, etc.

My DH is a first grade teacher and I can say that his favorite gifts are anything Chicago Cubs, or gift cards. He is also a candle guy, so he does enjoy getting candles. Cant go wrong with candy, weather it be in a nice tin/mug/basket. Ide just make it something useful, no one wants their money go to waste.

most men i know dont have a sweet tooth. at target they have archer farms flavored nuts, like wasabi almonds or balsamic ones. my stepfather loves them. although you would have to know he has no allergy. also a GC for a local cleaning service may be nice since most young men i know hate to deep clean.

I have a lot of guy friends who are teachers, so I have a few suggestions.

Candy, cookies, or brownies.
Gift Cards to just about anywhere. Favorites include: movie tickets and restaurants.
Supplies for the classroom, like notepads, pens, etc.
If the teacher wears ties, that can be an option.
A calendar.
