need ideas for end of year teacher gift

usually I'd do a cute little scrapbook... however someone else is doing this. so I need something else to do... any ideas? thanks, maggie

How about a "summer survival" themed basket/box/tote bag? You could easily adapt it to whatever budget you wanted to stick with. Some items that you could include could be a tube of sunscreen, ice cream gift certificates, a novel from Sam's or Costco or a Borders gift cert., magazines, a travel journal, beach towel, travel game(s), BBQ items, picnic items, etc.

A beach pail, beach/pool tote or picnic basket would make cute containers. I'm sure you'll get other great ideas.

I'm a class mom, this our teacher's first time teaching 2nd graders in over 15 years!
(she was always fifth grade)
She always comments how cute these kids are, and how she forgot how small children's hands are. So I teamed up with school art teacher, bought an apron from Michael's and she is having the kids all put a "hand print" and their name.
Apron, bookstore Gift Certificate... it's all good.

One year we gave our teachers a book store gift card, a candle and some bubble bath. This way they could relax after a hectic end of the year.

We've put hand prints on a clay flower pot, dated and personalized it then added the flower. It was really cute and the teacher loved it.

I just have to ask...what do people DO with those paint cans? I see them on 'twopeas' and can't figure it out!

I've made 2 paintcans for kate's teacher already this year.... she loved them. she has them in the classroom and keeps her pens, pencils, note pads in them. Might make another one for the end of the year with the "summer survival" stuff that soccerchick suggested. maggie

This is not crafty but since you are a private school this year fiunding can be low for teacher supplies. One of my best gifts was a teacher desk chair. A nice rocking, cushy one. Or we might paint a rocking chair for my DS teacher this year.

Last year I went to the Sandylion sticker outlet in Toronto and bought $15 worth of stickers for each teacher (two kids) They were thrilled! I had bought something for each theme - Christmas, Easter, Summer, Winter, Apples etc. For Christmas one year I bought something from www.samaritanspurse.org (click on catalogue) I gave them "Help a child learn to read and write" It cost $25 (Canadian) It supports school literacy programs in third world countries where many children cannot afford to attend school. They both were very happy with that as well

My friends that are teachers just said "please no more mugs!"

This is what we've done in the past:
We always send a note home to the parents and ask them if they would like to contribute to the gift as a class. We usually ask for up to $5.00. We have almost always gotten 100% participation.

Longaberger Basket- we've done this 3 years. We know that the teachers collect them.

A large pasta bowl from a paint your own pottery place. We got each child's fingerprint and the pottery shop turned them into fish. It was cute. One year they turned the fingerprints into kids heads. We took in the class picture and they made them with the same hair, glasses, clothes, etc.

We have also done gift certificates to a local spa, g.c. to a department store, book store, and teacher store.

someone asked about the paint cans -
I did them at christmas - real easy with double sided tape and scrap-crap
I used them to line with wax paper (note they are NEW cans not old used ones) and I loaded them up with hand made candy to give at parties we attneded -
bolth were business owners so I made the can for the business using the colors them etc.. (one I thought hey would get rid of the ugly lolipop bowl they had but the owner took it home never to be seen a gain - lol - quess he really liked it!)

I also made one for Gab's cheering coach last fall and filled it with 'kid treats' like stickers, pencils, erasers, bouncy balls, scrunchies, and stuff she culd 'bribe them with' ll)
I might do that for her teacher this year cuz I know she bribes them with a candy stash!
