We are having a party for my MIL and about 67 people are coming. I ordered a whole sheet cake (half choc. and half yellow) that has about 60 slices 2inX2in. Should I get another small cake? This is the only dessert and there is a dinner too. What flavor should I get?

I hate having leftover cake so I would not order anything else. Not everyone is going to eat cake, and some people might not be able to make it come the day of the party.

I would, but I'm the one that always has too much. I hate running out of things, especially for big dinner parties.

I'd get another cake or two. Small ones, though. Maybe a carrot cake or just plain vanilla.

I probably wouldn't order another cake but I would add something else for dessert. Even if it's just cookies or fruit.

I would, too. I try to keep amounts proportionate to people, but my motto is I'd rather have too much than not enough.

I am this way when it comes to the actual food part of the meal, I always have enough to feed the party twice over. But I don't like cake so it is not a priority to me. Maybe my advice isn't the best. :lmao:

I'd be too worry about running out. I think 2x2 is smaller than most people slice cake. So you could end up serving much less than 60 people.

I think the 2x2 slice sounds like the recommended serving, but I'd worry about oversize slices & running short. I'd add a smaller cake and stick with either the white or chocolate rather than another flavor. It would be my luck I'd have a smaller carrot cake and 3/4 of the guests would want that because it's their favorite all the sudden.

I would definitely get another cake. I absolutely hate running short on things, I find it embarrassing, so I personally would rather have too much than risk running out. Plus, if anyone wants another piece, drops theirs on the floor etc. you are covered. I would feel awful if there were people standing with empty plates and there was no more cake! Plus, I love leftover cake!

Ever been to a wedding where they ran out of cake? Happened to a female relative of mine, and she still gets teased about it to this day. No, none of us starved who didn't get a piece of cake, but....

If we have leftover sweets, I just send them with DH to work, where the wolverines he works with wolf it down (how's that for mixing animals?).

We just had a party for my mother. 45 people. I ordered a half sheet cake. We had about 1/3 leftover. There were a number of people that didn't want any cake or wanted 1/2 a slice.

This is what I would do. Lots of people don't eat cake, some people will leave the party before the cake is served, etc.

Get another cake. Maybe it's the Italian in me but not having enough food would make me mortified. I always have tons extra for a party. Better to be safe and get extra. And actually it's not really extra, one cake isn't even enough for each person to have one piece. Especially considering it's the only dessert option.

I would get another cake, but not introduce a new flavor. Keep it chocolate and/or vanilla. Another option would be to do smaller pieces of your current cake so everyone has a piece vac then have cookies to go with it.

I am with the crowd that thinks you should always have more food at a party rather than try to cut it close. But rather have this big cake and an odd little cake to the side, have the big cake and do something else:

cookies
brownies
mini cream puffs (love those)

That way it gives people a little big of choice and ensures there will be something.

A whole sheet cake is suppose to feed 96. Those slices are sort of small though. If you choose to not order more, be sure whoever is serving the cake, knows to keep serving small. If you choose to add another dessert, I would simply add a 1/4 r 1/2 sheet cake, exactly like the other one. While variety is good, many people will take that small piece of cake AND a cookie or two so it really will not stretch your serving that much.

I would do some more desserts but not another cake.

Cream puffs, brownies, a somewhat plain shortbread cookie or biscotti-type thing, magic cookie bars. I'd probably make a couple of big trays of assorted "finger" desserts.

Bring on more cake!

The problem - in my opinion - having an entirely different dessert - people might feel the need to have both...oh - there is cake AND cookies - and take both.
So - if you go with either a 1/2 sheet cake of either the choc or vanilla; it would probably be the most cost efficient way to do this!

Of course - I love a good cake; and would rather have too much than not enough!

Nothing more embarrassing than running out before a guest received a slice. I am sure you MIL would be embarrassed too.

Either buy another cake or two different desserts.
