Okay, I am really glad I realized my problem before I had actually ordered AP's. We are heading down for a quick trip in conjunction with a convention I will be attending. I was going to order AP's for me, dh, ds, dd & mom (she is on the contract with me) and get regular tickets for my adult dd & dgd. I realized that I wont be with my dh when he and the kids need to first activate their tickets ( dh is not on the contract, just me and mom). We will not be arriving until 10 pm Thursday night and the convention starts Friday morning bright and early so there is no way I can be with them to get the DVC AP's. So of course he won't be able to activate a DVC AP, correct?

If I were to buy them regular tickets and let them use them for a couple of days will I be able to pay the difference in the price of the ticket and the AP or am I going to loose some money on doing this?

Please help!

Thanks,
Lori

Call and ask for sure, but I think you could buy a Magic Your Way multi-day ticket then upgrade it as soon as you arrive and receive full value against the DVC AP pass price.

Do you mean I could upgrade it after DH and kids have already used them for two days? They will be going to the parks for two days before I can get anywhere to upgrade their tickets.

Lori

Yes but they back date the AP to the first date used on the other pass.

Thanks so much for the help Jim. I thought that was the way it would work but wanted to be sure.

Thanks again,
Lori

Shouldn't the OP's DH be entitled to the DVC rate without having to go through all that?

I thought the rule was DVC members & their immediate family living in the same household?

I might call MS to see if there is any documentation that could be provided to activate before your arrival.

Bet you could just give your blue membership card to your DH. That and his photo ID should be all he needs to activate his and the kids DVC-discounted APs . I assume you trust him with the blue card, yes? :teeth:

Best wishes -

My father just activated an annual pass I had purchased through DVC. He is listed as an associate member and does not have a DVC member card. I was with him at the time of activation and was not asked for a Member ID card. He was just asked for his drivers liscense.

I have a related question. If I list someone on my contract as an associate member and they share the same address as me, can I purchase the discounted AP for them? My boyfriend and I live together and I wanted to get him an AP, but I don't want to do anything to break the rules. So my thought was to add him as an associate member to my contract. Would that be legit?

The rule is " Immediate family members living at the same address ". Being an associate member does not qualify anyone for the AP discount. They would have to be actually listed on the deed as a member themselves.

But the OP won't be with DH, et al when he needs to activate.

I would think that if you gave him your blue card & maybe a photocopy of your license to show same address?

If the convention is at a Disney Resort, you may want to check with the convention. Sometimes they offer discounted park tickets prices as part of the convention. My DH, DD and I have been to a couple of conventions held at Diseny resorts and they provided convention price park tickets.

Truth be told - my Father does not "live with me." Is he at my house 6 months out of the year - Yes.

Point being - I was not needed for him to activate his DVC discounted Annual Pass. The addresses on our liscenses are not the same. They did not ask for any proof of DVC membership.

You could purchase the AP's at the DVC price online through the DVC member website - this would save the hassle of buying tickets then upgrading them. Disney sends you an exchange certificate (arrives very quickly - within a few days of ordering) which you activate (to get the actual AP) at Guest Services at any park...do need to present ID to activate. Call Member Services about what would be required for people who don't have membership cards to activate the AP's - seeing that you can't be with them to activate it.

The CM either sprinkled some pixie dust your father's way or was not properly trained. No one else should count on that happening to them as most CMs will abide by the DVC policy on AP/PAP purchases.

Thanks for all the input everyone. The convention is not on Disney property and we are going back in December for our full family vacation and then again next summer so we will definitely will want to be able to exchange them for AP's. We will be leaving a week from tomorrow so I am affraid to even attempt to order DVC AP's at this time. I will just go ahead and go to the Disney store and get regular park tickets for them this weekend and then we will just upgrade them on Sunday when I am able to be with him. I think that will probably be the safest thing to do.

Thanks again for all the help,
Lori

My father is 75. To avoid any problems I simply changed my address to his address of record. That way his license matched DVC records. He lives at my house, Florida, and Cape Cod. I tend to spend my summers on Cape Cod. Not everyone lives a conventional lifestyle.

No offense intended - I just wanted others to know that it is very likely that the CM will ask for the blue membership card when activating DVC-discounted passes. They are supposed to do so.

Best wishes -
