I'm sure this doesn't belong here but I don't know where to turn! My son is in the college program and his car keeps over heating. I had heard that the car repair place outside the magic kingdom takes good care of cast members so I told him to take it there. Long story short they said he needs a minimum of $3000 in repairs just to fix the over heating problem. What do I do? We don't want to put that much into this rebuilt title car. $3000 is about half of what the car is worth. WHAT DO I DO?!?

If he has a way of getting his car to Lakeland about 20-30 minutes away Thompsons Auto Clinic is awesome! They saved us a ton of money on our car last month, it's worth a call. Good luck!

Well that's a start. I think we have AAA towing up to 100 miles. I could have it towed there. Unfortunately , there is no guarantee that the repair costs will be anymore reasonable. There is the possibility that it really will cost that much to fix it. But I can't imagine there isn't a less expensive fix for the short term.

I would get the detailed estimate printed off from the first place before taking it in for a second opinion elsewhere. Most places, if they see what others are quoting, will try to beat it.

He can also take it in to an auto parts store like AutoZone and see if he can get the parts there for cheaper, and then have the auto shop do the repairs, so that should save some money on parts since most places charge higher for parts. The guys at AutoZone are really knowledgeable and will help explain in layman's terms what needs to be done.

He can also Google the description of what repairs need to be made, and if they're simple (like replacing the coolant or a filter) then he can most likely do it himself.

And lastly, he might want to look into the possibility that something was recalled on his model. I had this happen with the ignition switch & temperature gauge on my Audi (both needed replacing at separate times), and the Audi dealership replaced both for free and gave me a loaner car for the duration of the time it took them to do the repairs.
