Need help - MASSIVE amounts of weight to lose

Hello all...I know you all thought I must have gotten lost and fallen off the wagon in the mean time right? :rotfl: No, I'm still here, not as often as I'd have hoped. Quick updates just in case anyone is interested. My DH had to have a second surgery to the tendon he cut in his hand in Aug, he still has not been completly released, but as I said before he did get a promotion and is now the manager of his company :woohoo: So things are doing great there. As for me...I'm doing fantastic! We are leaving for the WL in the morning :cool1: and I have not stopped working toward my goal. As a matter of fact I have lost, are ya ready? Are you sure your ready? :rotfl2: I have lost.....40 of the 62 pounds I've been working at :woohoo: Oh yeah, go me :yay: So I've only got 22 more to go :cheer2: I'm wearing much smaller clothes, I've found muscles I didn't know I had, and I feel wonderful. I'm not doing everything I should be every day but I keep moving forward. Just wanted to tell you all how I've done, and I promise to get home and tell you all how the trip was. I hope you all are doing well too! :thumbsup2

:scared: on hubby's 2nd surgery--I'm sure you were hoping the first one would have done the trick.

 On hubby's promotion!

:woohoo: on the 40 pounds! I'd say that deserves another:woohoo: !!!

I finally managed to figure out how to post pix! I think Terri tried to talk me through it about 6 months ago....so it didn't take me that long to figure it out!

But seriously, I'm still not to the point where I would call it "effortless," so I don't know if I'll ever get around to posting them here or to adding an avatar, so if you want to see a pic of my family, click here:

Hi, everyone. Sorry it has taken me so long to get back to this thread. I haven't had much time to post until today.

I'm doing pretty well this week. I have started the C25K training program and am on W2D3 now. It is hard, but I am doing it. I stopped eating dairy foods at the first of the year, and combined with avoiding gluten, it seems to be making me feel lots better. I have more energy and NO serious pain at all, so I am grateful for that. Here's hoping that training for the 5K at Disney in May will help me drop some more pounds!

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Susan

I've had a semi-eventful past couple of weeks. I managed to lose about 3 lbs last month (which seems to be my pattern). I think that I might change my banner sometime, since now I have lost a little more than 70lbs altogether.

Work and school have been stressful. I have had lots of really sick patients. The CEO of the hospital resigned, and they brought back a former vice president of the hospital who, quite frankly, I think is a total ******. In fact, I don't think I can deal with his shenanigans for the next 15 years of my life. Doctors, in general, don't have bosses, as such, but he was my "manager" from 2000-2006. Let me tell you, the past 1 1/2 years, since he left, have been absolutely blissful in comparison. Some examples of his "decisions". I had a 3 year contract with the hospital for a certain salary and benefits. He went in and changed the contract, reducing my pay by 20%, and freezing any raises for the duration. The reason? The hospital had recruited 4 more doctors in my specialty, and, of course, everybody's patient load went down. Now, the person who replaced him restored my salary, which actually was in line with my productivity and income generation for the hospital. Quite frankly, there are some nurses who get paid more than I do. Then, in 2000, to save a total of $30 or so on airfare on a CME trip, he insisted that I fly Midway airlines from Indianapolis to Charleston, SC. My problem with the flights he insisted I book were than we had to check out of our hotel and go to the airport at about 4am. My son was 2 at the time. As we know, 2 year olds are hungry all the time, and fussy. We arrived at the airport. Charleston airport is tiny, and there is literally no where to eat breakfast at 5am. We did bring some food for my son, which he ate. Then, our plane was supposed come about 6. We are sitting at the gate at 5:45. No plane. 6:15. No plane. We asked at the counter, they could give us no information. Finally, about 7 am, they tell us that they didn't have "equipment" for our flight, and we needed to get home on another flight. They booked us on a flight that left about noon, actually, the very same flight that I had wanted to book, but wasn't allowed to, because it cost $30 more! My son, having eaten at 5am, is now hungry again. There is nowhere in the Charleston airport to eat, at least not anything a two year old will eat. We were supposed to have been back to Indiana by noon, so, I didn't pack lunch. The woman at a God-forsaken snack counter tells me that it will take 45 minutes to cook a hot dog, so, they aren't available at 11am. At home, microwaving a hot dog takes less than 60s. So, we are stuck with a hungry, grumpy, bored two year old, with a broken stroller (broken on the trip down courtesy of Midway airlines) for a 6 hour unplanned layover in a tiny airport in the middle of nowhere. To save the hospital $30.

So the next time I wanted to go to the conference in SC, we decided to drive. Now, airfare to SC is not cheap. The standard reimbursement for mileage for using our own car is less than the cost of airfare. Actually, it was more for airfare than the cost of mileage plus what we paid to stay overnight on the way, since it was a 15 hour drive to SC from home. This guy didn't want to pay for the hotel room and he didn't want to pay for the meals on the drive down. Even though, had we taken the plane, we would have spent lots more, like for a rental car to drive to conference from the airport. Meals were more expensive where we were staying than at McDonalds, where we stopped along the way. So, he is a real nickel and dime micromanager.

Well, hope me luck. I'll need it.

Just subscribing to this wonderful thread! Where is MareQ the OP? Does she still post here?

I don't think MareQ has posted here in some time. I think, quite possibly she hasn't posted since before I started posting in about August. I was wondering the same, myself. I hope she is doing well (although I really didn't know her).

Hi, Sistahs! Just popping in to say I am doing well - really, really well. I feel better than I have felt in years since I stopped eating dairy (along with gluten) and went to a low carb diet (recommended by my doctor). My blood sugar levels are coming down (another 20 points and my fasting blood sugar will be normal), my energy level is coming up and life is good! I am getting ready to start Week 4 of the C25K training program and doing other cardio besides, drinking lots of water and staying on my eating plan. I lost 9 1/2 pounds last month. I hope I have dropped 30 altogether by the time I do the 5K in Disney in May.

Hope all of you are doing well - have a good one!

Well I promised to report on our trip, so I will try to keep it short :lmao:
We had a courtyard view w/ balcony at the WL...room #5147 it was perfect! There was a balloon and card signed by Mickey for DS's 12 birthday :goodvibes

Mon 1/21: MK day...breakfast at the CP, first time there. As we got off the boat coming back from Tom Sawyer Island the dream team was there passing our YOAMD lanyards :woohoo: That got us so excited we started collecting pins! We had dinner at Liberty Tree. We did the P&PP! Oh, Capt Jack Sparrow pirate: we waited an hour for DS to meet him...oh it was so wonderful! We even bought a P of C photo frame to put the pic in!

Tue 1/22: Typhoon Lagoon/DTD: I actually wore my bathing suit which is what motivated me to start losing weight (I actually felt good in that bathing suit and I even saw DH catching a few peaks at me and smilin, that made it all worth it) went on Crushin Gusher (that is sooo fun) and had a great time enjoying the water. We took the DS to DTD for his first time and had dinner at Planet Hollywood, that was fun, the DS loves Herbie :) DS recieved a YOAMD certificate for doing the Magical Cookie Hour at Roarin Forks at WL during the afternoon :thumbsup2

Wed 1/23: Studios day....Started with breakfast at Chef Mickey's...that was so great, we will do that again. Dinner at Prime Time. I was chosen as an extra at the Indiana Jones Stunt show! :lmao: :woohoo: I had to wear that head thing and cloak! It was so fun, I was onstage during the whole thing! It was awesome! I even got to shake hands with Indy! :yay: Did laundry that night while everyone else was in the hot tub and watching the electric water pageant

Thur 1/24 Epcot day...Breakfast at Whispering Canyon, we had to take DS there, it was his first time at that restaurant and he wasn't sure what to think at first. I thought this older couple next to us were going to punch out the waiter! They didn't understand that it is a theme restaurant...they just didn't get it! Soarin broke down as we were about to get on...they had to take us to the other side. Our DS told everyone jokes w/ the CM while we waited for the ride  We had dinner at Garden Grill, we so wanted to do this revolving restaurant, but it apparently had overheated and they weren't turning it during our meal...guess we'll have to do that one again. Illuminations was wonderful...I cried, DS thought I was crazy :rotfl:

Fri 1/25 AK day and EPCOT w/EMH evening.....Our Pal Mickey (2yrs old) stopped working during the week, and we finally took him to the Mercantile at WL and they told us about a store w/ a Pal Mickey Dr. in the AK. So we took Pal Mickey there and the CM took our 2 yr old Pal Mickey and gave us a brand new one still in the box!!!! :wizard: We didn't have a reciept or anything, the DS was thrilled...was that a magical moment? I don't rightly know, but I think it was. I've never heard of anyone getting a free Pal Mickey have any of you? We were so happy for DS and ourselves.

Sat 1/26....we did the DVC tour and I swear I thought that the DH was going to get out the checkbook! The DH's words were this " if I had known all that I know now, we would have done this back in July 07 when we started planning our trip". He also told me on the way home that he isn't sure when we will join DVC but it will happen before our next vacation. Now, he could have still been on that Disney high everyone gets while there...you all know what I'm talking about :rotfl2: He is looking at resales and all that for DVC....I'll keep my fingers crossed, that would be awesome :cool1: Oh, we did spend the $100 gift card from the DVC tour at the WL on tshirts and fun stuff...and then we got in the van and headed home in a rainstorm! And DS started throwing up at rest stops...got him to the Dr. on 1/28 and he had an upper respitory infection....:sad1:

That's it ladies...it was a wonderful vacation..very relaxing...we had a fantastic time. And the DS and DH said it was all because of my planning, and everything was taken care of in advance that gave us the opportunity to rest and ejoy each other's company!

Hey ladies! I was briefly on this thread, and then I disappeared (relationships, school, wedding planning, etc) but now I definitely need to be back and keep up this time. I need to lose around 50+lbs for my wedding next year (one year from today!!!), and around 80+ before we can start TTC. I'm going to read through and see what I've missed but I just wanted to say hey and that I promise to be a better member this time! :)

Hey Sistahs!

I feel really terrible that I haven't posted in forever! Life has been crazy busy these last few months!

I have been keeping up with my exercise but the eating hasn't been too great. I keep gaining and losing those same few pounds! I have to definetly get my eating in check. I am hoping to be in ONE-derland or pretty darn close to it by the time I go it Disney in December so I got to get moving!

I promise to catch up on all the posts that I have missed. Hope everyone is well!

Have a great day!

Michele :flower3:

Hey Michele and all the other Minnie Sistahs!!!:flower3: :wave2:

I have been super busy what with the new addition to our family-a dog!:dogdance: His name is Rex and he is a Catahoula mix. He is 7-8 months old and needs to be walked at least 2x day. Which is good for me, since it forces me to walk him for at least 15 minutes each morning and each night. However, this addition of exercise has not helped in my weight loss efforts. Why you may ask? Because my eating has been waaaaaay off and I have not been running consistently or going to the gym. So I am recommitted to losing the 9 pounds I gained back since before Christmas and the other 50 lbs I have yet to lose.

One a positive note, I did some shopping for our upcoming cruise. I got three dresses in size 12 (a size I have not seen since I got married) for the low, low price of $66 TOTAL. Gotta love 75% off sales. I am hoping to lose at least 15, hopefully 20 more pounds before we go on May 9. The dresses will still fit but will have a little "wiggle room" since cruising tends to add some weight.

I hope everyone is doing well and staying with it or getting back to it. :goodvibes

Hey Sistahs!

Well I am so excited  ! I just planned my December :santa: vacation to Disney! So now my goal is to lose 60 pounds by the time I leave! Wish me luck!

Hope everyone is having a great day!

Michele :flower3:

Oh where oh where have my sistahs gone?! :confused3

Hey everyone! I just wanted to check in real quick and say I had a loss again this week! 2.5! Hopefully I am back on track and will keep on losing!

Hope everyone is well!

Take care!

Michele :flower3:

I posted once, I think, quite a while back, but I have decided I really need to commit somewhere and need a "permanent" home for this weight loss and healthy living journey I am on. As you can see from my ticker, I have over a hundred pounds left to lose, and it seems so far away. I've decided to break it down into mini goals of ten percent. In December, I was only a pound away from reaching the first 10% goal, and now it is another ten. I completely lost focus over Christmas, then a trip to WDW with just DH and I, and I haven't been able to get get quite back on track since.

So many of you have been successful and have met or are close to meeting your goals. It is very inspiring! It is good to know that with so much weight to lose, it CAN be done!:thumbsup2

Welcome back, Geekerbell!

I like you too fell off the wagon so to speak around Christmas time. I gained six pounds and have been losing an gaining those same few pounds. The last two weeks I have actually started losing again. So hopefully next week I will be back at 30 lbs lost! I want to lose 60 by the time of my Disney trip so I need to keep in check as well. Let's make this our permant home and keep each other motivated! Keep up the great work YOU CAN DO THIS!

Hope everyone is having a great day!

Michele

Welcome back to everybody! I'm glad to hear from you all again. I have had a very busy year so far--flu season has been a bear, and certain of my colleagues seem to think flu season is the perfect time to take a vacation. Having been here the entire time, picking up the slack, I would have to agree. But, I doubt I have the balls to dump on my coworkers like that.

Through it all, I have continued with my exercise and eating plans. I have lost about 4 lbs since mid-January. I don't weigh myself as often, because I was getting too anxious if I didn't lose weight every week (I didn't--was steady the first two weeks of January, but, didn't gain, at least). Because I am so close to goal, I am revising my endpoint in my mind. I would like to be between 115-120 lbs (which is 5lbs lower than my original goal). My only "problem", if there is one, is that I am quite petite, and size 4 and under clothing is difficult to find in the stores that I usually use. Now, I remember the days--it never was easy to find well fitting clothes in my size. I guess I could consider looking in the junior department, but, I am concerned a little what people might think about a "woman my age dressing like that".

I've had a little drama in my life the past week or so. I'm sorry, I just need to vent. Don't mind me. This involves the father of one of the kids in my son's cub scout pack. My husband is the Webelos leader, this guy is the Bear leader. The fellow has proposed a great service project for the cub scouts to do--replace all the standard lights in the church and school with CFL's, on or around Earth Day. How does this involve me? I am on the parish council, and the guy wants to know who to contact about getting permission for the project and then to do the project. So, he asks me. And, I didn't know, so, I called the parish office first thing Monday. The parish secretary didn't know, but said I needed to talk to Father, but, Monday was his day off. So, fine, have Father page me on Tuesday. Which he did, and I got the information the fellow wanted.

Now, not to begrudge Father, since I asked him to page me, but, in all honesty, at the time I was paged, I had just stepped out of an exam room to fetch a piece of equipment that I needed to finish the procedure on the patient waiting in the room. I don't like to keep patients waiting, but, it is for the good of the Church and School, and all things holy and beautiful, right? Later on that evening, I convey the information to this chap, and he looks at me as if I have two heads, instead of simply thanking me for getting him the infomation he requested.

Now, here's the vent. I just hate it when people treat me as if they don't realize that doctors are busy people, and my job is just as important as whatever their's might be. About 90% of the time at work, I am in with a patient who is sick, and really needs my attention. I am interupted with urgent messages several times a day, but, it is a part of my job. This man seems to think that I am no more busy or important than his stay at home wife. Which is not to put down stay at home wives/mothers. It's just that nobody will get hurt or die if a stay at home mother is interrupted while playing pat a cake with their child or cleaning the shower, whereas, there is a very high likelihood that somebody might be hurt or die if I am interrupted while doing a procedure or forget to write an order, or give the wrong dose of medication, or don't notice an abnormal lab. The nerve of some people. At least say "thanks" and appreciate my effort on your behalf.

WOW!!! I cannot believe this thread is still going on.

Well - as usual - I was all gung ho - all talk and no action and my big plans to improve my life and lose weight slid rapidly downhill.

I am proud to say I have found new determination. I started WW again last week and so far have lost 7 lbs. I am determined to excercise 6 days a week. Unfortunately so far I am only up to 11 minutes on the treadmill but every day I am pushing for just a few seconds longer. My first real goal will be able to make it to 20 minutes. Then I am going to push hard to try and get to 1 mile in 20 minutes. I know that may not seem like much but I am fat AND short so it's huge for me. That is what I was doing a few years ago when I managed to lose 40 lbs - then I got pregnant - lol

The difference this time is that DH sees how much I struggle and he's on board with me. He is going through my WW cookbooks with me and writing down recipes he think sounds nice. He is excercising with me and being as supportive as he possible can be. It's not that he's never been supportive before - but he loves who I am and gets upset when I am down about myself - so he throws a lot of praise and love my way - which is great - but but it also has given me the excuse to do nothing for myself. Afterall if DH loves me the way I am then I'll just keep on eating.....

I am struggling with meals. Mostly lunch. I have been making a ham sandwich on 12 grain bread and eating just that - I need something else. Got any ideas??? Breakfast I vary between egg beaters, oatmeal and toast(12 grain bread - very chewy! I love it!)

Dinner will be leftovers! We NEVER used to have leftovers and if we did - I snarfed them down for lunch - they never made it for another meal. Anyway - tonight is last night's leftover - pork tenderloing which I rubbed with 1 tb honey and 1 tb mustard, rolled in seasoned breadcrumbs and baked. I had that with Zucchini and onions sauteed in 1 TB of olive oil. So we'll have that all over again with a salad with just butter lettuce, cucumber and a vinagrette made with 3 tsp of oil.

Looking forward to jumping back in with both feet!

Mare,

I can not begin to tell you how happy I am to see you here again!!!!!!!!!

I felt that we were kindred spirits in similar situations. I too have been all talk and no action. A couple of weeks ago I got fired up but am now pooping out.

DH bellows so I gotta go but hope to reconnect soon.

Welcome back Mare.

Mare-

OMG girlfriend, we have sooo missed you. You started this thread and we all jumped on the bandwagon. We have been hoping you would come back to us.

WOW 7bs that is terrific!!! :cool1: The WW plan worked well for me for the first 50 lbs, but seems to be harder with the second 50. I am doing my own "modified" version now.

About lunch, fruit is always good or have you tried the WW yogurt? They are only 1 point and are really good. The new boston cream pie is yummy. I cannot have a sandwich without something crunchy, so carrots work for me or a 100 calorie pack of cheez its or something similar.

Keep posting-we are glad you are back with us!!!
