Need help - MASSIVE amounts of weight to lose

Delilah--cute pics! I guess I have to figure out the photopass thing before we go in May.

Michele--Thanks for the encouragement! :goodvibes As of yesterday, my willpower came slinkin' back to me, playin' nice & wantin' to make up. ;) I stayed on plan yesterday with no problem whatsoever. The thing I've always loved about my WOE is that it doesn't take any willpower; it really changed my body chemistry or metabolism or something, and I've never even had to deal with temptation since being on it at all. Maybe I need to look into some homeopathic PMS/premenopause herbal remedies or something.

So I did skip breakkie this morning, which I hadn't planned on but the Moreno household was a little crazy this a.m.--Mason, who is usually the happiest kid on earth, was just a tad high-maintenance for some reason, and between that and fixing the kids breakfast and getting Ethan's grammar lesson ready, I just never got past my green tea. But I had a yummy lunch, and now I feel like I'm right back on track. I am going to start trying to add a p.m. snack every day, and trying to be really good about eating something for breakfast, just to get my metabolism up a notch.

Okay, ladies, we are 2 weeks away from Thanksgiving, which means a little over 6 weeks until CHRISTmas!:santa: I'd better get my proverbial boo-T in gear!

Deliah - You look great! The pictures of you and your family were really nice. Thank you for sharing!

Ashley - Good for you getting back on track!

I can't believe Thanksgiving is only two weeks away! And Christmas is right around the corner. :scared1: I have a few gifts bought but my neices won't tell me what they want. This is the hardest time of year for me because I love all the food and desserts and it is very hard for me to resist!

Well I am off for home. (yes I Dis at work. shhh don't tell my boss)

Have a great evening!

Michele

Wow, this is amazing. My husband's last name is Moreno, too. So, technically, we are a Moreno household as well. I use my own birth name professionally, and so that is what I am known by. What a coincidence! Are you, personally, hispanic? (obviously, from my pictures, you can tell I am not). We are quite a mix--Central European, Korean and Cuban/Mexican. That pretty well covers about 75% of the possible ancestries.

Photopass is really very easy. There are people wandering through the parks with large cameras, and they are the photopass crew. When photopass was new, they were pretty assertive in approaching guests to take pictures. Lately, though, I have been needing to hunt them down. I have never done this, but, at Magic Kingdom, you can have your picture taken holding Tinkerbelle (not sure where exactly, but from what I've seen, on Main Street approaching the castle), and at Studios, Stitch can break through the pavement, which I think is in the area near the big Sorceror's hat. Also, you can have your picture taken with Sorceror Mickey, which we didn't have time to do this trip. I'll definitely make the effort next time.

Now, as an aftereffect of my medication earlier today (IV versed and Demerol), I have a bit of a HA, and feel a little hung over. To be honest, I can probably count the times I've been hungover on the fingers of one hand. I drink alcohol very rarely, and seldom more than one drink in an evening. In a while, I'm going to go down and exercise--that might help clear my head. It was disappointing today that after clear liquids for 24 hours and the bowel prep, my weight was actually up two pounds since Tuesday. I think I must be having fluid retention, since this makes no sense thermodynamically. I consumed 800 calories yesterday, maybe. However, for the bowel prep, I had to take these laxative pills (like Miralax) and drink at least 8oz of water every 15 minutes. We'll see how things shape up.

Vija- Glad to see you over here!!! Everyone is so great here, they are the best "Sistahs" around!!! Feel free to post up anytime, we are all long winded and love to hear whats up.

Ashley-Good for you getting back on plan!!! Now don't tell me that little cutie pie Mason went high maintenance on you. He's just too sweet for that!! HAHAHAHA I can't believe it either-2 weeks until Turkey Day!!! Then Christmas will be here. Then I will be going on a cruise!!! DH and I are going on a 3 night in January as a late anniversary trip. I am worried about clothes, though, because I have absolutely no idea what size I will be and its hard to find shorts and bathing suits in upstate NY in January. ebay here I come, I guess.

delilah-what a beautiful family you have!! And look at you all fit and looking good!!! You must be very proud of yourself, we are all proud of you.

How is everyone else doing? We seem to have lost some Sistahs along the way, I hope they come back and let us know how they are doing.

Well I am off to bed soon. I got my booty kicked at abs class today and I really need some rest.

C-ya!!!

I just wanted to pop in and say I haven't quite been feeling well the last couple of days. I finally am feeling a bit better today! but I haven't been able to work out the way I wanted to. Oh well, it is what it is and it did feel good to nap during the day!;)

ashleypmo, thanks for the welcome! you are going to WDW in April? I wish I was going to, we just got back and I want to go again! Great job getting back on track. That willpower is a fickle friend.

LaLaroo78, thanks for the welcome! Love seeing a blue team member here! Your post made me realize how close Chrismtas is, yikes I can hardly believe it, but this is one of my most favorite times of year and I am going to make the best of it!

delilah, great pics you have! We were at MNSSHP too this year, first time and it was simply magical! Thanks for the info on the colonoscopy, I imagine it must have been pretty scary going into it, but hearing that it wasn't so bad is reassuring.

VernRDH, thanks for the invitation to come and join this thread! And thanks for the welcome! It means alot to me!:goodvibes

Vija-You are absolutely welcome-and thanks for my new friend!!! Gobble, gobble!

I was pretty accurate in what I said about fluid retention and my bowel prep. Today, I am down 3lbs from my weight on October 31, which is 6 lbs less than just before the procedure. I think I have regained my equilibrium. The prep is partly saline based. Now I am all cleaned out.

I did some fun stuff this week. (Colonoscopy not included in my definition of fun). I bought a hanbok on Ebay for the New Year bowing ceremony. One of my best friends since we were in graduate school is Korean, and every year she has a party. She celebrate the New Year the same time we do, not at the Chinese New Year, although Koreans in general do. Part of the Korean tradition is the bowing ceremony for the New Year. All of the children say a little phrase and do a ceremonial bow to the elders. Then the oldest adult passes out money gifts to the children. I wasn't able to have a hanbok before, because they only come in sizes that would fit Korean women. Now, I am getting one to wear for the bowing ceremony. Now, the only problem I have is that I am on call for New Years weekend and New Years day this year (it is my holiday). I haven't had a chance yet to tell my friend (she lives in Columbus, Ohio, and, travels all over the world in her position as technical consultant for pharmaceutical simulation programs). Maybe, I can convince one of my colleagues to switch with me.

Yesterday, I also made reservations for my brother's family to stay at AKL villas with us in June. As an added bonus, the one bedroom units with sleep five, so this time, we are inviting my other brother as well. It's always fun to think about planning a trip to WDW. (Because we have DVC and family in Florida to visit, we usually go at least twice a year). When we were there last month, my SIL really loved AKL, which I am glad for. We had always stayed with them at Beach Club villas, and I was afraid she wouldn't like AKL. But, then, what's not to like about AKL?

In August, my husband is going to a conference in Colorado, and we might be going with him. I've never been to Colorado to stay, only a layover at the Denver airport once on a trip to LA.

Vern--I know about the bathing suit concerns. But, you are going in about 3months. I actually guessed at what size I might be wearing. My clothes were really a little more loose than optimal, and by next summer, they will be totally unusable. By any chance, do you think that you will be wearing size 6 (that is what size my clothes that I purchased were). Actually, for bathing suits, I find that a suit that nominally is too big is usually OK because of stretchiness in the material. I've worn anything from size 6 to 12 in a pinch. I love my new bathing suit, though. I think I'll hold onto it.

/
Well, curiosity got the better of me so I tried on the 3 bathing suits I have. One is an 18, only worn maybe 10 times. It still fits okay, but I don't know how it will be in Jan. The second is a 14, fits nicely, should be okay for Jan. Third, is a size 16 tankini. Unfortunately, the bottoms are stretched out in the legs and the top does not have the support "my girls" need, so that one is gone!! Shorts may be another problem, but a friend recommended a few catalog/online stores, and there is still ebay.

How is everyone else doing? I had a relatively good day with exercise and eating, although I did eat dinner too fast. DH and I were on our "date" and unfortunately were having a discussion about my family that I did not want to have, so when the food came, I dug right in to avoid further discussion of something I didn't want to think about, much less talk about. So then I felt kinda yucky. I am feeling better now (tummy wise) the other stuff, well, it still sucks but I am dealing with it in pieces and NOT dealing with it by eating.

I got my application for the Turkey Trot race today in the mail. My FIL and I are running this 5k race on Thanksgiving morning, and you get a T-shirt and a medal. I am really looking forward to it and hoping to shave a few minutes off my last race time. Its kinda scary that I look forward to exercising so much and really miss it when I don't do it.

I had my physical yesterday-MD is totally stoked about my loss so far. Had my bloodwork done last week so that we could discuss the results. My cholesterol-144:cool1: ratio 3.6. Thyroid, kidney function, liver, sodium all good. Blood count good. The best one was my glucose, which was 106 fasting. This is my biggest concern. Since I have been told that I WILL be diabetic in my life. I was told that if I lost the weight, I might be 75 when I get it, if not, then 40. I will be 37 next week, so I really don't want to go there if possible. My BP on the meds was 120/78, perfect. He told me that I might not be able to get off the BP meds, since heredity is a factor (my mother was between 75 and 120 pounds and her BP ran 200/100 EASILY while on meds). I have to go back in 4 months and he will recheck it then. Also we had a "disagreement" about my goal weight. I am shooting for 115, he says 125. I am only 4'11", so I thought lower would be better. He said that I should have reached 140 by the time I see him next, and then "we" can decide what my ultimate goal should be. I also asked him about some "fender and body" work (read: perkin' up my girls!) after I lost my weight. He said that he would send me to a plastic surgeon once I was at goal to discuss what my options were. I am not pro plastic surgery, necessarily, but I really would like my bust to not look like it belongs on a 70 year old.:scared1:

I have prattled on long enough, thanks for listening. You guys are super:grouphug: and I am glad I found all of you.

Hey Sistahs!

Just checking in to see in how everyone is doing!

Deliah - I bet that felt great being able to buy a hanbok for the bowing ceremony! Here's some pixiedust: to get one of your colleagues to switch with you!

Vern Good luck with the Turkey Trot! That's awesome that your check up went well. I was never pro plastic surgery myself but after we all loose all the weight we want I think a tune up is in order. I know I will be looking into it myself once I reach my goal.

I did something to my shoulder when I was working out on Monday so I have not exercised since then. I really wanted to but I didn't want to risk injuring myself even more. I felt really bummy the past two days because I didn't exercise. Today my shoulder feels a little better so I think I will attempt it tonight.

I am off tomorrow so I am going to start my Christmas :santa: shopping . Hopefully I will get everything done!

Have a great weekend!

Michele

Hey everyone!!! :grouphug:

Sorry that I haven't checked in here since getting back from our cruise, but I really haven't been online all that much. I get up early every morning and then by 8pm I am exhausted, and I've been going to bed early every night.

Anyway, it's the weekend, so I hope to take some time and catch up with everyone here. I think about all of you often :grouphug:

We had an excellent time on our cruise, but I still haven't had the time or energy to put together a web page with the pictures yet like I usually do right after a vacation. Hopefully this weekend I'll get around to that.

I hope that all of you are doing well. I gained several pounds while on the cruise, but I've already lost almost all of that. DH and I are back to doing Phase I of South Beach, just so we can get that vacation weight off. lol

Talk to you soon! :grouphug:

Hey everyone!
I was wondering if I could join your group, you all are so supportive and so motivating. I have just over 100lbs to lose, 108 but whose counting right. Anyway I am 25 and really want to lose it now before it gets any harder or I have any health problems due to my weight. I have to go to work right now but I will write more later.

Welcome Heather! Glad to have you aboard! Sounds like you have a great attitude, which is a big part of the battle!

Hey SeaSpray! Glad to hear you had a wonderful cruise! I watched Poseidon Adventure too many times as a kid, so I could never do a cruise. I wish I could because it looks like a blast, but realistically, I know I'd spend the entire time terrified!

Veronica--great news on your check up! Wow, I hope you are super-proud of yourself for taking control of your health! And a Turkey Trot--:yay: Wow!

Michele--hope your shoulder is feeling better. Hope you're able to get a good start on your Christmas shopping! I've been so busy accumulating pre-trip souvenirs to take with us to WDW that I haven't gotten started on Christmas gifts. Oh--and you won the Mickey Bar for at least guessing the answer on my pre-trippie! I made sure it was all-natural, low fat for you!:cutie:

Delilah--Hey fellow Moreno! How funny! Hubby (Gus, short for Gustavo) is Mexican-American. Actually I am of French Canadian/ German/English/Cherokee ancestry, so my kiddos are little Heinz 57s! Sorry to hear about your headache from the meds. My head hurt for a week after the MRI. BTW, my bloodwork came back fine as far as kidney/liver function and no probs w/ the MRI dye, so they are sending me back in for a CATscan after Thanksgiving to see what these masses in my neck are.

Princess--sorry to hear you were under the weather. Hope your back to feeling well!

I took a long break from taking care of my medical situation after the whole scare about the dye poisoning. Now I'm getting off my rear & moving forward again. My CAT scan is Monday after Thanksgiving. I need to set up an appt. w/ a neurologist to review my MRI films. Not sure if I mentioned I have two "brain lesions"--how freaky is that?!?!? I mean, since I've known MS is a definite possibility/probability, I was prepared to hear about lesions/sclera on my spinal chord, but brain lesions--that's just icky! On a serious note, the pattern of my symptoms would seem to indicate that my form of MS is probably on the mild end of the spectrum, as I first presented w/ symptoms about 26 years ago and I'm still fully mobile. Anyway, didn't mean to ramble on, just to say thanks for your support, prayers, & encouragement, and that I am on the right track. Reading Veronica's great news from the check up got me kicked into gear!

Have a great day sistahs! And if I don't get around to DISsing this week, Have a Happy Thanksgiving!:grouphug:

Morning, Sistahs!

Seaspray - I hope you are feeling like yourself again soon. I get the same way after I get home from a vacation. It's like where did all my energy go oh yeah the work demons have sucked it out of me! :lmao: Congrats on getting those vacation pounds off. That's the hardest thing I think!

Heather - :welcome: to the Minnie Sistahs! Sounds like you are well on your way to a healthier thinner you! Congrats on the 5lbs you have already lost!

Ashley - Yes my shoulder is much better now. Thanks for asking. I got a lot of Christmas shopping done. I now have 3 people left to buy for. :cool1: Thanks for the low fat mickey bar! I am so excited!
I hope everything goes well with your CAT scan. I will continue to pray for you.

Vija- I hope you are feeling better! Check back in with us soon!

Vern - Good luck on the Turkey Trot this week!

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving everyone!

Michele :grouphug:

Hey Sistahs!!!

I didn't realize we had been bumped so far down the page!!! I haven't been over here in a while, as I have been super busy, as I am guessing most of you have too!!!!

How was everyones Turkey Day? Ours was good, I ate WAY too much and unfortunately kept eating all weekend, ending up with a 4 lb gain. I am back down 1, but now I have a cold and feel cruddy. Lots of soup for me I think!!!

I ran the Turkey Trot in 36:09 official time (actual time about 34 minutes) so I was pleased with the result. My next race won't be until the spring, in a super race called the Freihofers Run for Women. All women, about 3500-4000 of them. It is actually a national qualifying race and brings out lots of strong women who are inspiring. My DH's cousin and I are running that one together, and my goal is to finish under 30 minutes.

We got DD a Wii for Christmas and I really want to get Wii Fit when it comes out. It is an exercise game with a balance board and has yoga and other exercises.

I am off to get DD on the bus and finish up my laundry.:laundy: Hope everyone is doing well.

Hey Sistahs!

I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving! I know I did because I gained 3lbs :scared1: Oh well no time to beat myself up over that. I need to get back on track if I am going to make my goal of 40 lbs total loss by Christmas so I need to get my butt in gear.

Vern - Congrats on the Turkey Trot! I would love to start running one of these days but I just have to figure out how, where and when to start. I will have to look into that Wii Fit too. Sounds like something right up my alley! I hope you feel better soon!

To all my other Sistahs, please check in when you can!

:grouphug:

Michele

Hi everybody! I'm glad to hear from you all.

These last 10-15 lbs are proving to be a challenge. But, I happy to be "plateauing" at 132lbs and not 160lbs. But, really, I have lost about 4-5lbs since I went to WDW last month. I really didn't gain any weight over Thanksgiving, either. But, I have been at 132lbs for the past three weeks, after my colonoscopy. It is made somewhat worse by people at work who keep asking me whether I have already reached my goal weight, and then imply it wouldn't be necessary for me to lose any more. Most are actually very concerned--one person in particular had anorexia, and was afraid that I would have it, too. This makes me worry, too, because I wonder if I don't really look as healthy as I would like. My goal isn't really to be any particular size, but to be as healthy as I can be, and to be a good distance away from the "overweight" range. On the other, I have been getting lots of compliments on my weight loss on daily basis at work, which is very encouraging.

We went to Cincinnati after Thanksgiving, which probably accounts for no weight gain. We went to the Cincinnati zoo and Newport aquarium. Walked around all day and evening. It was a very enjoyable and relaxing weekend. Cincinnati zoo is one of my favorite zoos, and I really love zoos.

I got a new gadget, actually from a drug rep. She gave pedometers to all of the staff in my office. It doesn't really seem to be that accurate, but, if I am to believe it, I do about 7000 steps or about 3 miles just walking around my office doing my job on a normal, moderately busy day. No wonder I get tired sometimes! I guess my job isn't as sedentary as I thought. All of the clinical staff--doctors and nurses, do about the same. I say it isn't accurate, because I've worn it while using the elliptical machine, and it doesn't agree with that. Also, if I bump it or sit a certain way, it resets to zero. But, it was a pretty nice thing to get for free, and I appreciate having it.
I'm like you, Vern. I really would seriously like to consider a breast lift after all is said and done. Actually, I could really use some liposuction in the abdominal area, too. But, things seem to be improving by wearing a tight-fitting bra day and night. I'll have to wait and see. But, really, they don't look that bad if I wear an appropriate bra with adequate support.

I got the hanbok I ordered on Saturday. It looks just beautiful. I'm looking forward to an opportunity to wear it. We are actually going to visit our friends from Korea the weekend before Christmas, because I am on call for the next weekend and Christmas Day. Here is a picture of the hanbok on Ebay: 300169738984 (item number).

I spent the day yesterday making gingerbread for a gingerbread house and train. I managed to break my handmixer before starting, however. I had everything all measured out and in bowls for the gingerbread. I put the dough hooks on the mixer, then, somehow, it fell off the counter onto our ceramic floor. Apparently, dropping mixers isn't good for them. So, I needed to make a quick run out to get a new mixer (I had to get a sturdy one; usually I only make hard to mix things like gingerbread).

I hope you are all doing well. I'm looking forward to hearing how everybody else is doing.

Hi everyone :)

I'm sorry I haven't posted over here in a long time. I'd been intending to, but I kept saying "later when I get some time". I'm a procrastinator, so "later" never came. lol

Anyway, I hope everyone is doing well. I'm still fighting this sinus infection/bad headaches/jaw & skull pain thing that I've had for the last 2 months. I finally go to the doctor this Wednesday morning. I should've gone sooner, but I knew I had this appt made, so I decided to wait.

Weight-wise I'm feeling like I'm finally getting back on track since after the cruise. DH and I did start to do well a week after we were back, but then turkey day arrived and it went downhill fast. lol Now, for the last several days we've been doing good again, and I'm down 2.5 pounds over my weigh-in last Tuesday morning. We just need to be consistent again!

Delilah: I LOVE gingerbread!!!

Veronica: It was a lot of fun doing the cruise chat last night! :chat:

LaLaroo: I gained 3 pounds over the thanksgiving weekend too. A lot of people I know gained 3 pounds. What's up with 3 pounds? I guess I should be happy it wasn't 4 or 5. LOL

ashleypmo: I saw The Poseiden Adventure in the movie theater when I was a kid! And I refuse to watch the newer remake. :scared1: But we love cruising, so I try not to think about scenarios such as those. LOL

Wishes n Dreams: I love your user name! You're welcome to join us! Just jump in a type any time you feel like it. Ask any questions, vent, etc.

:grouphug: to everyone

Delilah-- So what you're saying is that if I want a new mixer, I should leave mine a little too close to the edge of the counter next time...;) I'm so cheap, I never buy anything new unless my old one dies an unfortunate death. My fridge is 15 years old (and I really, really, really want that amoire style fridge w/ the freezer on the bottom! But my fridge money went to fixing hubby's van after the deer ran out in front of him:headache: . Deer are so stupid...), and my washing machine is 16 years old (the knob broke irrepairably a couple of months ago, which makes washing even more of a chore, because now every time I do a load I have to find the screwdriver!).

I really admire the gingerbread thing. The kids & I make mini cottages w/ graham crackers. Maybe when they're older, I'll get ambitious and make homemade!

Terry-- so sorry to hear about the continuing problem w/ the sinus infections & jaw pain. Bless your heart! Are you taking Mucinex for the sinus congestion? I mean, it sounds like there's something bigger going on, but Mucinex is amazing at clearing up congestion to ward off infections.

Hope everyone is well. I've been so busy I just haven't been on the boards very often. I've even been neglecting my pre-trippie the last couple of weeks--last night I checked & I had moved to page 2:eek: !

Enjoy your Christmas season!

I am reading some of the posts from this thread and I feel as if I have found my home in two ways. The first is that I have just a little under 100 pounds to lose. I just started working on it this week. Right now it's about food. Next week, i add excercise. But it's already hard.

I think another reason that it's so hard is that my husband lost 134 pounds five years ago. He did not have surgery and he did not use pills. It was all him. He ran and used weight watchers to get it off. But, I know from living with him that he works every day to keep it off. Right now he has gained 10 pounds back so he's dieting with me.

People look at him and then say, "If he can do it, why haven't you?" and they never think about how much those words hurt me.

So I'm saying hang in there and if you need tips, I can ask the master.

If I figure it out, I'll put his picture up here later. Thank you for starting this thread. Now none of us feels alone.
