I am trying to suprise my mom and dad with a day at DisneyLand before they leave to take the Disney Magic back to Florida. They will be staying at the Holiday Inn in San Pedro and will not be renting a car. What's the cheapest way possible to get them from the hotel to DL and back again? I am clueless!!! TIA.

Why don't you call their hotel and see what they say? Maybe they have some sort of a deal with a shuttle in the area.

Are you saying that your parents are flying in early just expecting to relax at the Holiday Inn but you want to somehow get them to Disneyland?

That they aren't or don't want to spend the night at Disneyland, is that it?

The reason I ask is that there are more transportation options available with the airport as the point of origin.

If you check out www.supershuttle.com it says that they can arrange pick ups at other places but I think you have to call them to get the rate for that.

Also, there are several town car companies that have been mentioned recently on these boards as an option for how to do it.

I'm all for surprising people but I know that just before a cruise it is sometimes nice to just sit down and enjoy. Especially since they have a 2 week journey back to Florida. You might want to bounce the idea off of them first.

JC Butterfly: They would LOVE to go to Disneyland (they haven't been in over 16 years because we got hooked on WDW and the DCL), they would really like that suprise but they didn't buy the park hopper because they couldn't afford it and wanted to save the $$ for the cruise. For their birthdays I would like to get them the Park Hopper pass and the transportation to suprise them.

Do you know if Super Shuttle can pick them up at LAX, make a stop at the hotel to drop off the luggage, and then move onto DL?

First let me say that I haven't actually tried this yet myself nor have I used SuperShuttle but I'm doing research for spending time at Disneyland before my trip too.

From LAX to the port I think it's about 20ish miles. From the port area to DL is about 35 miles (not including any traffic issues).

So I guess what I mean is that it would be somewhat wasted to go from LAX to the port, and then back over to DL and then finally back to the port, a lot of time wasted in traffic. Versus if you were willing to talk with your parents about your idea, they might consider going right from LAX to Disneyland and staying in that area instead. No need to drop off luggage and not dealing with traffic in three seperate instances. Then the next day they could use transportation to get back to the pier.

If they are flying in and won't arrive at LAX until late afternoon Friday and then going to Disneyland before departing on the cruise Saturday, there is just a lot of time that would get wasted. I don't know if they have already booked their flight or not.

So I guess in theory you could pay Super Shuttle to do this but it would be an added expense. In which case it "might" be cheaper to go on Priceline or similar and get them a hotel room close to Disneyland for like $25 or something and have the transportation take them directly from LAX to this Priceline hotel. they wouldn't even have to actually stay there then, just use it as somewhere to store their luggage while they are at Disneyland and then get picked up from that location (there are lots and lots of hotels within walking distance of Disneyland).

If your parents wanted to share a Super Shuttle from LAX to Disneyland, it would probably cost them about $35. Do you know how they intended to get from the airport to their hotel in the first place?

Renting a car would be a cheap option if they were willing to drive because again, they would have somewhere to store their luggage while at Disneyland. It sounds to me like they would get more enjoyment out of this whole process if they were to arrive on Thursday for a Sat departure.

I hope someone else has more info to share!!

Thank you so much for your input. I think you have really talked me into just telling them about the suprise I want to do for them and see if they want to even bother with it, because like you said, it would be a lot of time spent in traffic and renting a car would be the best option for them. They already have a flight booked and they get in at 8:00am on the Friday. Thanks for all your help JC Butterfly.

I wonder how rush hour would be around that time? Is it pretty easy to get from LAX to DL if they drive themselves?

I would almost bet you would just call Bell Services at one of the DLR hotels and ask them if you could store the luggage there for the day. Just tell them your parents want to go to DL before their cruise. I don't know if there would be a charge to do this...probably just a tip of some kind. If it works out, you could still use Super Shuttle or the Airport Bus instead of renting a car and fighting the commuters.

Good idea, calypso thank you.....I will do that so maybe there is a possibilty of suprise still. Thanks.

We can highly recommend super shuttle also, in fact we are using them when we arrive to LA on our repo cruise. We are using their exeucar service to take us to DL and then back to the airport again when it is time to fly home. We have used both the car/shuttle in each of the major cities they service while we have lived there (yes, lol, we move a lot). They have always been excellent and very good prices.

Less than $95, tip included for a private car. We thought that was an excellent price. We will use them to the airport also, just booked the flights so I haven't made that reservation yet.
