Need Female Perspective

i have been on both sides of the surprise trip experience. i surprised dh for his 30th - misled him that we were going on a roadtrip to visit old historic sites between home and VA. then - the morning we were leaving, waiting for our "rental car" to come and pick us up, i gave him a "husband of the year certificate" and explained that we weren't going on the dreaded road trip but instead were going to disney! he loved it and the trip. (it was actually a combo land/sea trip.) i made sure to plan some special things that he wouldn't ordinarily think of/spend on like the keys to the kingdom tour and then let him figure things out once we got there. it was a great trip and we both still look back on it happily.

he returned to the favor so to speak and planned a disney trip for my 30th 2 years later. he planned it for GF which is definitely a wonderful place that i would not normally spend the $$ on. he had all the details worked out and had surprises throughout the trip. i did find out about this trip in advance by accident (he got a new cc and the bank sent it in both of our names. the statement arrived and i had no idea about the card but saw a charge for 2 airlline tickets. it was either come clean about a surprise trip or come clean about an affair. :rotfl: not a serious concern of mine.)

we both loved our surprise trips and part of what made them special was the fact that our loved one put the effort and thought into making it an extra special trip with our likes/dislikes in mind. i think you should be in the clear if you have done the same for your family. :) you've made it this far, i wouldn't ruin the surprise yet.

Tell her your going to Orlando but dont say Disney. Just talk about Universal and Seaworld but not disney. Surprises are nice but the entire trip idea is alittle huge so just surprise them with the disney aspect.

That was a very sweet thing to do. I'm glad your wife was happy. Have a great trip.:goodvibes

Thanks everybody for the great advice. Based on the group feedback, I sprang the news on her this morning. I gave our itinerary (the printed version that comes in the mail from Disney) to my son, and told him to take it to Mommy and say "what is this, Mommy?". He performed his role perfectly; but my wife thought it was just junk mail & set it aside (oops). Once she realized what it was she was floored...I think I scored bigtime husband points, and she's very happy I gave her some notice about the trip. Thanks again for your help!

Yay!

How sweet of you. Your DW is super lucky! I definitely think you made the right choice to tell her! I think we'll be there about the same time! :cool1:

Wonderful! I would have wanted to know in advance too...I am not a surprise type of person...I didn't even want my DH picking out my engagement ring! Seriously, I would have been upset!
