Need fast answer-baby stroller & food shopping question

I know people say not to but I always Put the infant car seat in the front of the cart. The seat goes on with baby facing you then the entire back/bottom of cart is available for food. Our carseat manual explained how to do and that it was safe. But again, that was 12 years ago.

If you don't feel comfortable doing that, ask an employee to help with a second cart. I had to do that once, and they were happy to help. They even took the cart to the front where it waited for me while I got the rest of the items in the cart with the baby. Not a problem at all.

The other possibility is to use a sling or baby carrier

Car seats USED to be made to fit! Now they are changing the bottoms so the purposefully do not fit as they were having too many accidents with kids getting hurt! Generally speaking, they used to snap in, but now, they honestly don't fit and are not meant to fit! They are simply "perched" on top! One good bump and the carseat could tip right off!

I'll probably get flame but please don't put your baby carseat in the top section normally used for toddlers to sit in. It is just not safe (atleast in my opinion). While it is unlikely, babies have fallen off the shopping cart usually face first onto the ground while still strapped into the carseat. A sudden bump going off the sidewalk or by a passing customer not paying attention is all it would take.

Please put the carseat into the large section of the cart and put the food wherever it will fit, bring a friend, clumsily push the stroller and cart or ask for help from the store but please avoid the top of the cart.

Agree. I remember on DS infant seat thart it specifically said on the side not to attach it to the front section of the cart. I know our Whole Foods has those miniature shopping carts. Maybe you can use one of those along with the stroller basket.

Well that stinks. You would think they would try to make them so it would be safer instead of making it impossible.

DD and DS are 17 months apart. When they were both little I put the kids in one cart (baby in car seat in basket, and 1 year old in the seat part). I pushed that cart and pulled another one behind me that I put the food in. It worked just fine, it really wasn't too difficult :thumbsup2

As others have mentioned, please do not attempt to attach the carseat to the front ( child seat!? ) part of the shopping cart! Not only are they made to not attach properly but they make the cart top heavy and can quite easily fall over if hit from the side!!

I would put the infant seat in the main area of the cart and load your groceries around the seat, in the front section and under the cart. It might also be a good idea to look into baby wearing.

Thank you everyone. I am from the U.S.-Massachusetts. I'm guessing Whole Foods is going to be absolutely mobbed tomorrow, & I'm expecting the cart to get bumped into.

I'm hoping they have a built in car seat built into the shopping cart. Otherwise, I will put her car seat in the main compartment and hope everything fits!!

Lesson learned-I SO prefer shopping with my DH and baby lol!!! The only place I have taken her alone (aside from friends' houses) is the pediatrician office, so this should be an adventure!

I carry a small basket and push the stroller, or wear him and use the shopping cart. You don't have a large order so can probably fit it all in a basket.

I took ds shopping alone when he was 5 days old, you can do this. :thumbsup2

Do you think everything would fit into a basket? I am having a hard time visualizing the size of the basket & how large my order will be.

I shop with my 5 month old A LOT. Just the two of us. Mostly Target and the grocery store...she always hangs out in her Chicco carseat in the main compartment of the cart. I put my debit card, phone and keys in my pocket and leave my handbag/diaper bag in the car. You can fit TONS in the basket seat area of a shopping cart. You should have no problem fitting those items you mentioned.

Tip: Park next to a cart corral. Quick and easy in/out.

Thank you! Fingers crossed that it goes well!! She tends to be the most sleepy before noon, so I'm hoping she sleeps through the whole ordeal!!

Yes, my store has small baskets and it holds a bunch of items, you shouldn't have a problem. You don't have any carrier at all? That would really be easiest, plus babies sleep so well being carried around. She'd be nice and cozy.

Chiming in with the 'no carrier at all?' thing.

Whole Foods - at least the ones here - don't have built-in seats, no.

I don't know why you want a cart? Just use a basket and either hang it on the handles of the stroller or use the pully one. That's what pretty much everyone who doesn't wear the baby does, heck that's what pretty much everyone does regardless, heh.

Only time to ever take a full-sized cart is if you're having like 50 people over and need to get everything in one trip.

I was originally thinking I'd try that, but I've never ordered a holiday order before. I"m not sure if it's going to be packaged in a bulky box or bulky containers, etc... and I guess I"m just having trouble visualizing the size of the basket or cart vs the size of the amount of groceries we are buying. I just want to try to get in and out of there fast to avoid baby fussing

The only place around here that I"ve noticed a rolling basket is our Rite Aid.

I should also add that I am in process of transitioning my daughter out of our bedroom & into her crib in the nursery, so I'm a touch sleep deprived lol!

Put the baby in the car seat in the bigger basket part of the cart and put the stuff around the car seat, in the toddler seat area of the cart and underneath the cart.

Or use one of those things where you strap the baby to your chest....I don't know what they are called but my niece has one and it seemed good to leave her hands free to do stuff.

I'm amazed that you've never had to take her to the grocery store before now! :thumbsup2
