Need advice on renting an apartment

I know money is obviously an issue but one of the only ways you might get an apartment or other rental is to offer more $$.

Some landlords may take a bigger security deposit however you may need to offer more than just 1st and last months rent. My dad--through no fault of his own(we had a housefire during tax season, he lost all his receipts and the gov't said he owed more than he did to make the story short)--nearly had to declare bankruptcy but had a settlement instead. He almost owned his home outright and that was sold as part of the settlement and then he had to find a rental. Because the settlement showed up on his credit report, no landlord wanted to touch him but he finally ended up renting a 3 bedroom townhouse (for 6 people + a dog!) by offering double the security deposit (plus an additional fee for the dog) and 6 mouths rent up front. It was a tough situation but after staying in the rental for a year my dad was able to get back on his feet and he then purchased another house which after 10 years he almost owns outright!

Although a motel is really expensive, that might be an option and you might be able to work something out that's cheaper. Also, commuting 2 hours sounds horrid but you may have to do that for a few months and save every dime you make after expenses to get into an apartment. I also agree with the poster who said arrange to make payments on what you are delinquent on...even $20 a week could help to show that you are making good on your debt.
