We returned a few days ago from a wonderful trip to Disney. We stayed at ASMusic and everything was great as usual, except one thing. Mousekeeping accidently picked up my daughter's blanket she sleeps with when they were taking the laundry. :scared1:

This was on 9/3, we called the next day and every day after and spoke to the lost and found. They kept telling us it could be up to 12 days. My daughter was a little sad not to have her blanket to sleep with but we just figured it would turn up. It never did. I went to the front desk the day we checked out-9/13 and they had me fill out a lost item report and told me they would mail it when it came back from laundry.

Well, I have anxiously checked the mail all week and still nothing, today I called ASMu and spoke with lost and found and it still has not turned up! They said they had lots of children's blankets but none fitting my description.

Has this ever happened to anyone else? Is there anything I else I could do? Anyone else I should be speaking to? My daughter who is 9 now made that blanket when she was 4 and it has her little handprints all over it. :sad1: It couldn't have just disappeared! If anyone has any advice or insight or encouragement, I would love to hear it. Thanks!

I believe Disney sends all their bedding & towels to a commercial off-site laundry. It is possible that it got mixed in with the towels by mousekeeping and thrown out once it got there. So not to make you sadder, but it is possible it could disappear. We lost pajamas at the Wilderness Lodge once (they were under the pillow, I think) and called, but they never turned up.

I don't think there's any place else to call for something lost at the resort, but I'm not 100% sure of that.

Sorry! :flower3:

The problem is that most of these kiddie blankies don't survive the commerical laundry machines and become "lint" I am sorry, but... chances of you getting one back after it's made the trip to the laudry get slim.

Back in 05 DH left his fav sweatpants on the bed. We checked out of the room at 4am...had to be in town for a meeting by 8am. When I got home at 7am I started laundry and noticed the pants were missing. I called the resort and explained that we checked out at 4am that morning (they were not aware of this, I told no one) and we left the pants on the bed. Since it was 7am and we technically had the room until 11am I figured maid service wasnt there yet...plus I never took the do not disturb sign off the door...forgot all about it.

Well they said the room was already serviced and no pants were found. Bologne! We called lost and found at the resort for a week and no luck.

Now I am extra extra thorough when we check out of a room

Oh, no! I hope you do manage to get it back. Hopefully it WILL turn up, so I'd keep calling. This is a fear of mine I have happening. My 6 year old has her lovely blankie since she was a baby and really wants to bring it with her. I keep worrying we'll be tired and grumpy in the morning when rushing to get out the parks and not think to take it off the bed and put it aside safe somewhere. I really hope yours turns up, so sad.

My daughter lost a couple stuffed animals that way. I don't understand why they can't pay attention to what they're picking up. :confused3

Oh no..that's awful! I'm so sorry for you and your dd. My son has a blankie he sleeps with every night and we'll be taking it to Disney with us and he'd be beside himself if it was taken/lost whatever. I hope it turns up!

We are waiting for a call or post card from lost & found at POP Century. We bought our Granddaughter a Lady that was in a purse while there. Anyway -- neither the Lady or purse left the room --- but could not find the purse when I was packing to leave. I was told it could take 10 days & we would get a call if it was found & a post card if it was not. It has been about a week. Crossing our fingers!!!!

Few years ago DS lost his 2 very favorite stuffed toys he sleeps with "Stinky & fluffy" We searched, called CSR manager, Housekeeping manager, Laundry manager. FOr 3 days we called and complained. NO toys found ever for years!!!!! Well the next day CSR manager said to go to DTD and pick up two comparable stuffed toys, charge to our room and he will credit that charge. Fine, worked for the large white bear. But not the puffa lump pony. We got a small dalmation at that time. But when I got home I was on e-bay getting another puffalump pony for big $$$$.

I would make sure they got your daughter a new blanket...

So sorry to hear about this. My kids sleep with blankies also, and I would always put them into a drawer with their clothes first thing in the morning for fear the same thing would happen.

Okay, now they are 9 and 11 - still sleep with them, but I finally said when we travel, they have to leave them at home. DS will sometimes get out a hand towel and sleep with that instead - I know, I don't get it, but whatever works for him....

Anyway, so sorry about it. Maybe you can go get a special new one to at least alleviate the loss. Gymboree has really cute soft ones.

Why? Its not their fault it got left behind.

When kids sleep with stuffed animals/special blankets, its not hard for them to get twisted up in the bed coverings. After all, that could very well be why folks miss packing this stuff up: they can't see it because its wrapped up in a sheet, so they don't think to look for it.

Well why should housekeeping then be charged with finding it? They go into a room with lumped up bedding and just strip it and put it in their cart. They don't necessarily shake it all to see what might fall out. Once its in the laundry cart its out of sight until well into the laundering process when it could be impossible to figure out when and where it was picked up.

I'm sorry, but complaining about them not finding stuff one leaves behind is wrong. Its bad luck and a shame when something does get left, but in no way is it housekeeping's fault that it isn't found, especially when its an item that is slept with and very easily covered up by bedding.

Years ago when my kids were small I forget exactly what we left at one of the All Stars. I think it was a t-shirt. With me buying all matching clothes for my 5 boys that would have thrown an outfit off. I have a touch :lmao: of OCD and needed that t- shirt back. I did get it back wih a small mickey stuffed animal and a nice letter from them. I called them to thank them and tell them they sent me a small mickey that wasn't mine. They say it was a gift from mousekeeing. So there is hope. Keep praying & keep your fingers crossed. You never know. Good Luck.:thumbsup2

Most of us have never seen a housekeeper come in and "do" a room. But most of us will complain when the job isn't done fast enough.

The housekeeper will simply strip the bed as fast as she can, bundle up the sheets and then put fresh ones on. The bundled up ones go into the housekeeping cart and are taken away. The same thing happens with linens in the bathroom. The laundry then sorts the things. And I've seen commercial laundries and I can tell you that it's all done by hand. However, a commercial laundry does the service for lots of clients. The sheets that are laundered there are not the exact ones that are returned to the facility. No way to tell which client had the blanket in their laundry.

This is a very good thread to remind people to always make sure everything is off your bed every day before you leave the room! That has been drilled in my head by my parents, I've drilled it into my son's head and he's drilled it into his kids' heads. It's the same thing as always checking all the drawers and under the beds before you do a final check out.

No hotel or resort is responsible for items left behind on any day.

You should be in charge of what you brought, not housekeeping. They should not have to sort through the bedding and towels and what not to see if you left things mixed up in there. You are in charge of all your items and Disney should not replace things due to your forgetfulness or sloppy room keeping. I hate posts to this extent feeling Disney took their things during housekeeping, items get lost and laundered at home the same way, it's up to each individual to keep track of their things, empty pockets, police after themselves, all part of growing up, being a responsible person for one things.

Thank you for your encouragement.:grouphug: I'm still hoping. It was a full sized blanket-not a little blankie, so that should make it easier to find.

My son has a small blankie that he sleeps with every night and that one we always pack away in the morning so it doesn't get lost, but this one was a large double bed sized knit blanket with purple handprints all over it, so I wasn't as worried about it getting lost. The first 3 mornings I folded it up and put it on her suitcase, but on our first park day we just rushed out and forgot and it was lying on the bed. :sad1:

I am a little disapointed in how it was handled after it happened. We called lost and found as soon as we noticed it was missing, and we called every day after giving it the few days they said it would take to come back. Each time we called, I asked if there was anything else I needed to do, they kept telling me no. On the day before checkout, I asked again and told them I was checking out, they said no again. I went to the front desk and asked about it and they asked if I had filled out a lost item form and told me I should have done that right after it was lost. And then hearing that one of you who posted was given specific instructions on what to expect- a postcard or phone call- nobody has told me anything.

Thanks again for your advice! I'll let you know if I hear anything.

This happened to my son a few years back. The day before we left they changed the sheets and took his blanket with them. It was a very special blanket that my parents had given him. Both of them died suddenly, and the trip was supposed to be "time away" after all the turmoil surrounding their deaths. Long story short, the blanket was never found. We filled out every piece of paper we could while we were there, and called every day for a week after. Nothing. I still fill sad every time I think of it.

Did you even read my post? God forbid, I wasn't complaining about Disney-especially not here! I know better than that! All I was asking for is words of advice on if anyone has ever had an item come back a few weeks later or if there was someone else at the resort I should be talking to.

I don't think you were ever in my room, it was not "sloppy room keeping" my daughter covers up with an extra blanket on top of her and we left it by mistake on the bed the morning we had an 8:00 a.m. breakfast adr. Mousekeeping is only human, but so are we. :rolleyes1

Nowhere in my post did I accuse Disney of taking my things or doing anything wrong. I don't know where you read that. :sad2:

I hate posts that don't answer the question that was asked by the poster but only come in and judge the person. Your post was completely rude and uncalled for.

Oh my gosh, I am so sorry. How awful. That definitely puts my blanket situation in perspective.

Actually jenga - I think Pepe was responding to another poster who suggested that Disney would be fiscally responsible for items left in beds by guests.

Did you try calling housekeeping when you realized the blanket was missing instead of lost and found? We thought we lost our niece's pacifier on her first trip. She was going through a really hard time (her mother and she had been living with an extremely abusive father and her mom was getting out of the situation. She came with us to Disneyworld so she would be safetly away from the situation as my sister left) and the pacifier was her security item. She was crying uncontrollably when I called housekeeping. They responded wonderfully. They checked all of the laundry carts - tracked down the mousekeeper who had cleaned our room and come up to the room to check in with us several times. Imagine how stupid (and releaved) I felt when I opened my makeup case to find the pacifier. I'd put it in there and forgotten - I appartenly didn't want it to get lost. Point being - I called the department I thought would have been the one that would have taken the item. It didn't even dawn on my to call lost and found. I know its been a while now but maybe you could be out in touch with housekeeping - they might remember a blanket like yours

Thanks, it was about another post answering yours. It's lost, it's gone though Disney has a huge lost and found, finding a specific item when you've gone home is tough. We travel light and do not take things that are sentimental or hold any value because things do get lost and misplaced. Sorry for you loss but the best remedy before hand is caution with your things and knowing where your items are, hence our traveling light, less to store away and watch after. Sorry if you felt post was at you and rude.
