Ugh. The kids have been raiding my Disney change jar on my desk so that the pile of silver coins are about gone and my jar is mostly pennies now. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr........

Any ideas for a large change jar or piggy bank with some sort of lock on it?? :teeth:

No clue- but I'd be putting it where they couldn't steal out of it. LOL Like in my locked cabinet next to my desk, up on shelf in bedroom closet, something. LOL

Hi I don't have that prob. When my 7 year old lost his last tooth he said. Mom I know about the fairy thing and you better not put money under my pillow tonight. I don't want it put it in the disney cruise fund. So I didn't becouse he gets mad about that sort of stuff. Anyway my 6 yo just broke my penny jar, it was the glass budwieser horse beer bottle piggy banks they sell. It was about a foot and a half tall, and full. So I had nothing to put them in when I cleaned it up. I ended up washing out my 200oz tide bottle and now it is almost full of pennys. (as he then one week later broke the other one that was almost full) I have about 2 inches from the neck to go and figure, when all said and done it'll buy a few mickey bars at wdw. Anyway who would thing to look in a tide bottle. Mum of two pirates

In spite of the fact that you are for the Army and not NAVY :cheer2: I will give you an idea to lock the bank! :rotfl2: How about sealing the jar, jug or what have you with DUCT TAPE? That stuff will stop most anybody!! I can never get it off!! :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl2:

We took a huge pepper jar that DH got from a deli, cut a slot in the lid, then super glued the lid to the jar.... It was a bit tough getting it off when we needed to but not impossible...

We use one of those old glass water bottles (you know, the kind that you turn upside down and put on a water cooler) The fact that it is glass makes it extremely heavy, and we only empty it each time that we go to Disney. We put our change in every day to our vacation fund. When it's time to count the money, we personally roll the quarters and dimes, but usually take the nickles and pennies to CoinStar as they feel like too much work to count for so little $ return. I am willing to give CoinStar a percentage of this, but not the quarters and dimes. They add up too fast! We usually have ~$350 for each trip, and we go at least once a year.

Sorry to say but if a slot exists for change to go in....it can come out....

Kids figure out the butter-knife trick....and away goes the change....

Anymore, I look at our change jar as my daughters allowance... :rotfl:

Tell the kids no Disney trip if they break into the Disney jar. That shuold take care of it. It works at home for me!

What about a locking cash box from an office supply store? Staples sells some in either combo or key lock.

Our kids are too young for that, so our change is pretty safe. We have a small ceramic jar for change up on a high shelf. DH takes it to commerce bank often and the bills go back in the jar. Probably not the best arrangement, but it works for now. I think the lock box would work for us after we get the bills so I might pick one up. Then we also don't have to worry about having cash in the house when we have company or a contractor around.

We have a large plastic jar that we got at one of the wholesale clubs (used to be filled with pretzels). DH cut a slot in the top, and then slathered PVC glue into the cover before screwing it back on! I then made a label on the computer...complete with Disney graphics, and it sits in the corner of the living room. I suppose if we tried hard enough, we could break the glue seal, but it's definitely a deterrent!

We've been saving for quite some time and it's just about filled to the brim. I can't wait to bring it to be counted!!! (we are lucky that our credit union has a $$ counting machine. As long as you deposit the $$ right into your account, there is no charge!). I am planning on using it for our next family trip....hopefully in late Feb. '06.

This isn't a BIG jar or container, BUT I saw something really neat in the Toys R Us Green Tag clearance things. It was a bank that looked like a lock and it had a digital timer. You set the timer for a specific date amd time and the box won't open until that date and time. NEAT ITEM!
