Hi there,
Does anyone have a printer where the ink cartridges aren't that expensive to refill? Lately, it's been cheaper to just buy a new printer than replace the inks in some. Wireless would be a plus but not necessary, and I was hoping for one with a scanner too.
Thanks!

DH talked me into getting the new KODAK ESP 7 and I love it!! :love:It has a scanner and also has wireless access-haven't figured out how to do that yet:confused:- but the prints are very good quality and the ink cartridges are very reasonable-I think about under $10 for the b/w and about $15 for the color.I can get them @ Walmart/Target instead of going somewhere more expensive. It's a little noisy starting up but for the price I can live with it

I was just getting ready to ask the same question. My printer just died, and it seems like the ink is so expensive. I was wondering if all printers had ink that was so expensive, or if there were reliable printers that had ink that was less expensive.

Target has a wireless Lexmark printer/scanner/copier on sale for $49.99 this week. It's a great deal. I've had this printer for 2 years....I've never had a problem with it! It comes with two printer cartridges, and you can find refills on sale for around $17.

Some of the Brother printers have generic ink cartridges available. I pay around $2-3 per cartridge from Abacus.com. My printer model is MFC-685CW (it's an all-in-one wireless model). It's a couple of years old though, so it's probably been replaced by a newer model by now.

The best thing to do is find a printer you think you might like, and then check the price of the generic cartridges. Not all printers have generics available, or sometimes the generics are quite expensive because there is a computer chip required for particular printers. (Epson and Lexmark are 2 examples of one that use computer chips.)

Not everyone likes generic cartridges, but I've had no problem with them. I don't think I would trust them for photos that I want to last for 100 years...but for that matter, I wouldn't trust any home printer ink to last that long. :confused3

I second the Kodak printers. I now have the ESP 7 and love it!! This is the second Kodak we have had (nothing wrong with the first, just needed another one). Love the fact that the ink is so inexpensve to buy and lasts a long time. Print quality for everything is great!!

I have looked into the Kodak printer and think that it will be the next printer I get. The inks seems much more affordable than the ink for my Lexmark and from what I hear, it is great print quality.

I have a kodak and love it! Got it at walmart it prints, scans and copies.

When it goes out I plan on buying another one only the next time I will get the wireless model.

I paid $89 for it, could not find it on the walmart's website or Sams. Maybe they have different ones in the store than online.

We bought an Epson printer at Target last week for $28. Brought it home and read some reviews about and took it back. The ink costs more than the printer itself and you cannot print anything if one cartridge goes out. It has to be replaced!
Ended up getting the Kodak ESP-3 for $89.99 at Target and so far so good. We bought it for our DS because he likes to print out comics online. It is a little loud when it starts, but the quality seems good. A black cartridge is $9.99 and it only has one color cartridge, which is $14.99 to replace.

Thanks for posting about the Lexmark printer on sale this week at Target. I just bought 3! DS20 needs a new one for college and DS16 and DS14 will be getting them as Christmas gifts! Our Target had 2 left and DS found 1 more up on a top shelf. As long as it's decent for that price, I'm happy!
