Need 2 rooms for 2 adults, 5 kids

We have 5 children going to WDW with just us 2 adults. Our AAA agent said we need to book 2 connecting rooms using the single occupancy rate (a big increase) or else do a 2-bedroom HAH. Mousesavers said that the "room cost is the same for 1 adult or 2". Does anyone know for sure? How can we avoid this besides HAH? Are the AP discounts usually valid for the 2 bedroom villas in Old Key West in July? Is the "rack rate" that you use to compare the savings from an AP based on double occupancy only? Help!

2 adults in a room do not cost any more than 1, it is when you have more than 2 adults that they charge extra, how much extra depends on the resort. Children are no additional charge (up through age 17 I believe). If one of your children in young enough for a pack-n-play (I believe the age is through 3) you could try a cabin at ft wilderness, although with 7 people I think 2 connecting rooms and therefore 2 bathrooms would be better.

Check out mousesavers.com for discounts. There is no single rate. I would get two connecting rooms at one of the All-Star Resorts. See FAQ and pictures at wdwig.com . There is tons of planning info there!

I don't know about AP rates but you shouldn't have to pay the single occupancy rate for each room. We have two adults and three kids in our party and are booked at CBR for two connecting rooms and the rate for each room is the regular double occupancy rate. I think it would be easier to book directly through CRO, their information is more accurate.

I think this is just something that AAA Travel Agents say. I don't know if that gets them a larger discount or not. But it is not necessary to book two rooms with one adut in each and some of the children in each. But I frequently see this type of reservation from AAA Agencies.

Just call CRO or WDTC and tell them that you need two rooms for two adults and five children. They will put both rooms on the same reservation and verify that they are connecting rooms. You will not be charged extra.

Does anyone know the answer to the other question asked by the original poster? Can AP discounts be applied to HAH properties, such as Old Key West? I am curious about this also.

Yes, AP discounts are applicable to the DVC resorts in WDW - Disney holds about 4% of the inventory for CRO/WTDC et al guests and also any inventory (I think) not booked by 30 or 60 days (cannot recall) by DVC members are released into inventory

So the answer is yes, but availability can be highly variable

We also have 5DCherubs and when we went in January we had to book 2 rooms. There were some rates for VWL, according to CRO, but no rooms available. In the long run it was cheaper with AP codes for us to do 2 rooms. We are actually staying offsite for this next "surprise" trip as we liked having a wahser/dryer in room, the extra space to move around, and it is a lot cheaper than staying in a villa on site. The kids had never stayed on site before so unless we hit megabucks-lol this was probably the only time we will all stay onsite together. BTW it was greeeaaatttttt! Nice to meet someone else who has 5 like me!

Faith, trust, and pixie dust to you.....
