Is it just me or is anyone else more than a little upset at them for playing the video of the school bus rollover multiple times yesterday and again this morning? ENOUGH ALREADY! Yesterday during the first hour of the show they played it 9 times! I kept turing away from it. This morning they played it twice. Watching those kids being thrown from one side of the bus to the other was heart wrenching.

It is not just the Today show. My local news has shown it about twenty times already. I thought I was going crazy. How many times do we have to see it. My DD doesn't want to get on the bus now.

Exactly p-nut! I made sure that my son wasn't in the room. We usually watch together while getting ready in the morning, but after seeing it the first time I made him go into the living room and turn on Nick.

I'm sorry it is causing distress for little ones. I never thought of that. I have to admit that once I realized there were no serious injuries it was making me laugh every time I seen the footage. It is quite comical looking to me -- even though very serious.

Maybe this will have them considering seatbelts now.

the video or playing of the video doesn't bother me it's the fact that the NTSB isn't doing a thing for it..

they could have put seatbelts on buses in the 80's when the discussion first came up about safety on busses but they didn't and it's very unlikely for the to now because they just don't care enough.

Are you sure that seatbelts would really make buses safer? Why not shoulder belts too. Or even airbags.

The NTSB has mandated padding on bus seats that is supposed to make them "safe" in head on collisions. Apparently as a result of this latest accident, they are going to look into what would be necessary to make buses safer in the event of a collision to the side of the bus or perhaps even in the event of a rollover.

One comment that I heard on the news was that adding seat belts and shoulder harnesses to school buses would reduce their capacity and also increase the cost of the bus. The net result would be that school systems would have to not only buy more buses, but that those buses would be more expensive. The real question is whether or not taxpayers are willing to foot the bill when it comes time to pay for these safety improvements.

The main reason that busses do not have seatbelts is the large number of kids on them. If there was an accident that meant the bus needed to be evacuated quickly it would take a long time getting a bus full of children unbuckled and off the bus.
Although I have heard often of bus accidents, I have very rarely heard of a fatality. The few fatalaties are almost always the driver, who went thru the windshield. Yet I have heard of accidents where kids had to be evacuated quickly due to risk of fire, or due to a bus landing in the water.

of course it's going to come down to money over safety, it always has..

I would drive my kids or homeschool them if I had any before I would EVER let them ride the bus.

Yesterday it was CBS's morning show. They showed it about 5-6 times in a few minutes.

Same thing on CNN later in the day.

I agree. I was watching that interview too. It's like they kept in a loop for 5 mins! One time was definatley enough.

Let's try this reply again. I found the following link when I was searching the web for articles relating to school bus safety. Here is the link to one article that I found:

Seat Belt Debate Rekindled

The author of this article quotes a statistic from the US Department of Transportation that claims that "school buses are 70 times safer than passenger cars, light trucks and vans".

If this statistic is to be believed, then home schooling may be the only "safe" alternative because a child is 70 times more likely to be killed when driven to school in a vehicle other than a school bus.

And to answer the original question posed by this thread, I too am sick and tired of seeing this video. Enough is enough.

What bugged me about the media and this tape..our local station..showed it at least 5 times in previews and then for the actual news story posted a warning that it may be distrubing...WHAT? Isnt that warning a little late, you've already aired is multiple times.!!!

I'm guessing that the morning tv shows believe that many people aren't just sitting in front of the set totally focused on the program(like many of us would be during the evening hours). They show things over and over because people are coming and going all morning. Again, just a guess.
