Nationality/stereotype

Irish, Polish, Rumanian, Russian and Jewish.

Drunk, dumb, gypsy Commie who is cheap.

Not a nationality, of course, but I am a middle-aged woman which pretty much makes me invisible.

So am I.

I don't get insulted by the jokes.
In New York we hear all the ethnic jokes.

most people that i meet that are Polish really don't get insulted by all the jokes. they join in on the fun! DH2B's family is Polish and they always make fun of eachother.

I'm half Polish... enough said.

I am 1/4 Polish. My maiden name ends in "ski". I hate when people truly believe you are stupid. It doesn't help to have reddish blonde hair either.

When I was a teenager I had an adult very seriously tell me I didn't look Polish. I asked why and he said I didn't look stupid. Idiot.

Living in the south as an adult -- people (my in-laws) think you are scum. I also had a boyfriend's mother tell me that Italians were trash -- don't understand this at all. Oh, that and every one thinks your in the mafia -- I always tell them, if I was, do you think I would be living like this and work for the State. Also, for some reason, why do people say Italians aren't white-- well, I guess I'm not -- I'm a golden olivish color -- whatever!!

Being a native Southerner, that embarassed me. Just wanted to let you know that in my little corner of Louisiana, there are LOTS of Italians. I'm not, but most of my friends in school were and I learned how to cook some truly awesome food from their mothers!!!

People look down on us Louisiana folks, too. One thing I am proud of is that there are many different kinds of people around here and I've never heard anyone called trash just because of their heritage.

Wow thats interesting I married a woman with a name that ends in ski as well. She got a lot of teasing before she changed names.

I, as the tag to the left says am a sixth generation Texan, I don't ride a horse to work, I do own some cattle. I am of Irish decent. They left Northern Ireland for religious reasons and I am the benefactor of an Irish temper. Luckily enough for her my "ski" has enough Irish in her from her Fathers side of the family to give it right back.

My father is half Polish and half French. My mother is American Indian and some English and Irish. I don't take any crap either.:rotfl2:

I'm about half Irish, and about half English, everything else is just "random."

I don't chase little kids and tell them "They're always after me lucky charms!"

I'm half Italian... the rest of me is a mix of Polish, German, French, Russian and British. I think I've heard jokes about every nationality at some point. None of them bother me, though.

And I'm a red head too!!! The only thing I've heard people say is that we have tempers.

Hmmm. I'm 75% German and 25% Irish. What DO people say about Germans, anyway? I've never actualy heard anything said about us!

By far it's people who think think that Germans hate Jews. That's pretty offensive. :(

My dad is a WWII UBoat survivor. He actually had someone come up to him at work years ago and ask him if he killed any Jews. :sad2:

On a lighter note, it's people that think Germans are arrogant. (I mean, who can blame them when you look at all the brilliant artists, scientists, etc. who are German. And just look at the cars they make...) ;) :rotfl:

My third child is Korean. He was told in the past that Asian people are supposed to be smart, but he's the "dumb Asian". He was diagnosed ADD in middle school, and he's always had a tough time making the grade. His memory is poor when it comes to taking tests. He has his talents in mechanical areas- he can take a car apart and put it together, loves to tinker with tools, etc. He hates being slow in high school, and it didn't help when the kid told him he was a dumb Asian. Thankfully, that was a couple of years ago, and it doesn't seem to have done too much harm in the long run. I think/hope it was a one time thing. I will be glad when he is finished with high school and he can go on to a trade school or work at something that suits his abilities more.

4th generation American...

...what? I speak english very well? I certainly hope so, since that's the only language I speak...

...what do you mean what is my "real" name? you think I'm a foreigner who picked my own "american" name??

and, (when I was in college in PA, before I moved to so cal), "are you from LA?"

Huh, I've never had anyone say anything to me about hating Jews. Sorry someone was so rude to your father, no excuse for that.

As for the arrogant thing, well, knowing as many people of German decent as I do, I can't really say that's totally unfounded!!!

When i first saw that i thought it said invincible. And quite frankly, that fits more. Most middle-aged women I know are invincible. :goodvibes

American. :)

...half Irish, half mutt. I don't really care about the sterotypes. No time in my life to worry about stupid crap like that.
