I just booked a full size rental for 10/28-11/5 through "name your price" on Priceline for $197 out the door. Pretty good deal, I think. Does anyone know the types of cars you can choose from in the full size aisle? Any chance for a SUV or minivan? We should be ok with whatever, but the extra space would be nice (traveling with a toddler so we'll have a bunch of luggage, etc). TIA!!

Do you have an Emerald Club account? If yes, they may allow you to pick from the Emerald Aisle. Otherwise, you have to pick from the full size, which would usually not include an SUV or mini-van.

I had a full size in Dallas this week, a Nissan Altima.

Expect Camry/Sonata/Malibu/Jetta/Fusion/Old Impala etc etc. Always a chance of a small SUV as October is somewhat a slow period.

May being the key word there. Per the T&C's you can't use Emerald Aisle with a 3rd party reservation as your emerald club number is not affixed to the reservation. As always some agents will go the extra mile and allow it as a customer service gesture.

Thanks all!! I had already checked out the Emerald Club, and figured it wouldn't work with my reservation. My reservation was way less than the standard National mid-size rates for my dates, so I am happy. It would be awesome to get to pick out a vehicle in the Emerald aisle, but I am not holding my breath. Also, does anyone know what kind of hold National puts on your card for a full size rental? Trying to do some last minute budgets.

National only holds the amount of the reservation for credit cards. For debit cards, check the rental location policy, as it varies.

Since I pre-paid through Priceline, they should only hold my card on file, but not reserve a set amount for deposit, right?

In theory that is correct. When you go to the counter they will swipe it to pre-authorize it for $1.00 I believe; to verify the card is valid.
