National codes..AAA *may be good minivan rate..check the rules*5/19 update*

Dan, Just booked full-size and was upgraded to mini-van. Full loss damage waiver and unlimited miles included at no extra cost. Best deal for me. Thanks

I much prefer National, but the cheapest I've been able to get for my upcoming September trip was with Alamo. I used the upgrade coupon to go from a full size to a minivan. I'm not a AAA member, so I played with different corporate IDs. An AmEx one got me the cheapest rate, and it's $8 cheaper than Alamo. Not a lot, but I'm happy.

I'll keep checking it and with luck, rates will continue to drop.

If you join the Emerald Club at National which is now free to join, you will only have to rent at least an intermediate size and then once you arrive you can take anything out there that they have. I love it, though when I joined years ago I had to pay the full fee of $50.00.

I am booked with them now for $89.00 for a week with an intermediate flying into tampa in a few days...WooHoo...
I dont know what I'll be getting, but at that price I dont think I really care...LOL :cool1:

Whoops. Just checked my paperwork. The total is actually $89.03, didnt want to give the wrong impression that I was only paying $89...lol

I did the same thing for our nov trip. The coupon says intermediate and their computer tells me I have a mini van booked so I'm hoping all will be okay. Can you let me know if this worked for you or were there hassles at pick up? Thanks.

In all my years of renting cars, I've never been able to jump using a coupon from a full size to a minivan (usually some type of restriction). This one worked just fine. thanks for the tip, it saved me about $150 from the lowest minivan rate I could find (Thrifty). :) :)

Brutie, can you share how you got such an awesome deal out of TPA?

The lowest I have gotten is at Alamo for $160

Will National take this coupon for a minivan?
Yes. When you get to the car selection, select the full size. It will come back with the minivan, in the one I just tried, gave me a Chevy Uplander minivan, 8 days, end of May, $174.

But the coupon isn't valid for full-size. Will they give me problems when I get there?

Hmmmm, that is strange. I did not really even look at the coupon, just put in the code. It did give me a choice of coupon usage for a full size, but do see it is good only to intermediate. Weird. You might give National a call and ask about the apparent inconsistency.

It does say this at the top of the car selector..............
You have entered a coupon. Please read the terms and conditions of the coupon before selecting your vehicle to ensure your coupon will apply to your reservation. If you are using an upgrade coupon, please select the car category you wish to upgrade from.

Thanks a million. I am going to Ft Lauderdale in June and just got the minivan for 148.97 for five days. Orlando for October is coming up 358.22 for 9 days, not sure if I will find it any cheaper then that.

I called National after I made the reservation just to make sure the AAA rate went in and then asked him to check a rate with the coupon # for my October trip and he said I could have the Minivan with that coupon. I hope it works, but I will call one more time just to be sure. Thanks

Thanks Dan Murphy, I have been checking every day for a better rate for a mini-van for our drive from DW to Washington DC and this code saved me $200!!(got a chevy uplander for 4 days for $330)

I am still going to hang on to my other reservation with Alamo for now. I am a little nervous about them accepting the coupon since it does not say for a full size rental. I am going to call them to double check it. I am hoping it is not a problem!! $200 is a lot of spending money!!

THANK YOU for the codes!

I had an 8-passenger minivan booked for 11/23-11/27 for $215 (using an Emerald Club contract ID and no coupon or rate code - this was the best National deal for many contract/coupon/rate code combos.

Using the AAA contract ID and the 2-car upgrade I got a 7-passenger minivan for those dates for $169.76. Saved $45!!

Things to note: could not get it to upgrade me to an 8-passenger van (but I didn't care). Coupon did work if you started from full-size - and says right on the screen if you choose full-size that the coupon will be applied (still inconsistent with the coupon itself, I know). And when I didn't change the contract ID to the AAA one, the price stayed the same as my original quote.

Interestingly, when I chose intermediate it only upgraded me to full-size (which is one class, right?)

This is great for the folks wanting minivans, but please do make sure with a phone call, AND a name AND time of your call to verify. it does say, in red, on the qoute screen, to verify the coupon. Sure do hope it works for you of you.

Thanks for posting this Dan! :thumbsup2 :)

I used the AAA contract ID and upgrade coupon for a mini-van in August. It's the best rate I have gotten so far...
I will call to verify that the coupon will work with my ressie/mini-van.
