Just a question for anyone who has done the Nassau Historic City Tour. My husband and I have been to Nassau before and if it was just the two of us we would probably just stay on the ship at Nassau, but I would like our kids to get a taste of another culture while we are on the cruise(also good report material when they go back to school) My DS is 11 and DD is 7. Is this tour worthwhile?

Thanks for your help!

My wife and I went on this tour on the 11/9 cruise. For $22, we thought it was worth it. We also tipped our guide $5 and gave guides at two forts $1 each.

The tour is fairly basic, but you get to see a little more of the island and the way the people live. Just driving by the different residences, from old ones to very nice houses, was interesting, and to see the kids in the playgrounds at several schools (each school has different color uniforms). The tour goes through downtown and then to the Queens Staircase and two forts. At the forts, a different guide walks you through and gives a "canned speech", which was ok, but the views were very nice - you could see the Wonder in the harbor down below.

We also drove out to Cable Beach and back - not much else really, but a nice 2 1/2 hour overview. Our tour was from about 10 to 12:30, so we went back to the ship for lunch and then took a taxi to Atlantis to look around later.

In sumary, the tour is interesting, but I would not expect the kids to come back with any "rave reviews".

(We did catch a glimpse of them filming a James Bond movie, but my wife was upset because we did not see Pierce Brosnan....I don't know why!

Nick,

Thanks for your reply. I think that we will do this tour just to give the kids a little history of the island.

We went on the historic tour and were diaspointed. It wasn't bad, it was just not that good. The dirver, as mentioned above has a dull canned speach. The guides at the forts were trying too hard to be funny and had their hands out at the end of the tour.

The tour needs improvement. Next time we are going to the Atlantis.
