ps - please also reply to my email a/c since I don't get to check the boards often, thanks!!

We did the snorkeling excursion in Nassau, and loved it. I highly recommend it. DH's daughter had never been snorkeling before and just picked it up so easy!

We went on one of the inaugural cruises for Disney a few years ago and had the port of Nassau. We took the City Tour that ended at the Straw Market .

First of all, we will NEVER take a cruise that goes to Nassau again. Nassau, in our opinion, is the pits! The tour was lousy, in a mini-van with no air conditioning and a driver that was nuts! The Straw Market is dirty and lots of "hands" out for you to buy anything and everything.

And, I believe, the Straw Market area had a major fire last year, and pretty much is gone, so I'm not sure where you would go for shopping.

The snorkeling, etc. may be fine, but Nassau itself is awful!

For what it's worth...

I agree with Fojmo about Nassau. It reminded me a little to much of a Mexico boarder town. . . shops filled with cheap stuff and folks running after you trying to sell stuff you don't want or need.

We took a glass bottom boat tour at Nassau and were relatively disappointed. The boat was very crowded and we were quite cramped in the viewing area. The colors at the bottom were washed out and there really wasn't much to see.

We hot footed it back to the ship and enjoyed a truly wonderful day on the ship. The Micky pool was empty and we had lots of room to stretch out and relax.

Hi piginmud

We have been to Nassau during our 2 DCL cruises. On our 2000 cruise we went on the Blue Lagoon excursion and enjoyed it very much. We snorkeled and then lazed around the lagoon area. Blue Lagoon is a private island.

On our 2002 cruise we went to the Atlantis Resort (booked a room at Comfort Suites). We had a great time there - the resort really is incredible! Disney offers an excursion to Atlantis but it doesn't include use of the pools. My DD-15 and DS-14 are still talking about the water slides that go through the shark tank!!!

So you can have a good time in Nassau - it just depends on what you choose to do.

During our June 2000 4 day park/3 day cruise, we stopped in Nassau. I have to agree with the above post stating that Nassau seemed more like a tacky Mexican border town. I hated it too. The shopping is not all that great and I would avoid the straw market (if it's still there) due to all the "begging" for your business and smelly people. The Nassau people are more aggressive than friendly. A guy on the street looked like he was eyeing my purse, which made me uncomfortable. We didn't do an excursion, and I wish we had booked one through Disney. Or gone to Atlantis to gamble. The only good thing about shopping in Nassau was we went in their local drug store on the main drag and bought a couple of YUMMY rum cakes to take home. Maybe swing in to get one of those, perhaps.

Needless to say, we were happy to be back safely on the boat in the arms of Disney after shopping in Nassau. It was a disappointing experience.

One tour I would not recommend is the Historic Harbor cruise. We have been there 3 times now and I would suggest going to the Straw Market (just to see it) and then back to the ship and enjoy yourself there with the less amount of people.

We did the Dolphin Encounter on Blue Lagoon last year and loved it. My twin DS8 still talk about "their"dolphin, Sean. The morning was taken up with the encounter and we had lunch and spent the afternoon on the beach at Blue Lagoon. It was beautiful and uncrowded! Highly recommend it!

Hi All,
Can you explain to me a little more about what this Comfort Suites room booking thing is that lets u into the Atlantis pools for the day?

How much is it and how far in advance does it have to be booked? Who do u book through?

thx!

To all of those who don't like Nassau (and I have to admit I;m not fond of it either), don't forget that you don't have to get off the ship!
Out of our 23 Disney cruises, 21 have been to Nassau, and we rarely if ever disembark anymore. We simply stay on board and pretend that it's a day at sea. The ship is not crowded, and there are pools, movies, the spa, and plenty of activities to keep us busy.
