Planning a weekend trip over Thanksgiving weekend to Nashville with extended family. Downtown area hotel already booked. But looking for things that are must dos or wonderful places to eat/drink to add to the list. Kids will be with us but all are old enough to stay together in a hotel room for the adults to have a late evening out if we choose - so places with live music/bars are welcomed on the list.

Could we really just fill a day up wandering the downtown area? It's been years since we've be there. Having done Memphis, NOLA and other like cities are teens enjoy the wandering during the day - appropriate hours - so no worries there.

Budget friendly things are even better - as the upcoming Disney trip is killing the vacation budget next year :)

Thanks!!

I went to Nashville for a concert, and we were all adults, so take this with that perspective.

We really enjoyed going to the Honky Tonks on Broadway. As a warning, they were very crowded, but that may have just been the weekend we were there (NFL draft was going on as well). I don’t know if kids under 21 are allowed. My favorite was Tootsies, but that was largely because one band was doing 90s music and another was alternating between country and Celtic. My sister really enjoyed the FGL House.

The Parthenon replica is interesting. They have a small art museum in addition to the Athena statue. Admission was $6 for adults, less for kids. There’s also a park around the Parthenon, if the weather is nice. Probably won’t have too many flowers in November, but you could walk around he pond there.

We didn’t do these, but I believe the Tennessee State Museum and touring the Capitol are free if they’re open.

My aunt and uncle really enjoyed the Grand Ole Opry, but of course tickets are required for that.

Gaylord Opryland is definitely worth visiting. Walk around and see the sites and it should be decorated for Christmas. It is gorgeous. Opry Mills outlet mall is also right next door.

Have dinner at House of Cards. Dress up for the night, enjoy a speakeasy vibe, take in some amazing magic, and feast on some yummy food and drink!

The honky tonks can be fun if you don't mind shoulder-to-shoulder crowds - they are ALWAYS crowded at night, regardless of what's going on. During the day Broadway is a lot more manageable. Robert's Western World and Tootsie's are probably the best.

Parthenon is great, Country Music Hall of Fame is really cool (and also downtown), House of Cards previously mentioned is really cool but very expensive. You can absolutely fill up a day just wandering around downtown. Check out the downtown public library if it's open (it is really beautiful) and maybe tour the Ryman!

I'm a local and whenever I have guests with teens, we try to visit the painted murals around Nashville because they love taking some selfies. There are some amazing ones in the Gulch area and 12th South. 12th South has some awesome shopping and restaurants as well. If want to go to an awesome cocktail bar with just adults, I'd hit the Patterson House.

After dark on Broadway, it can get very crowded and lots of drunk bachelor/bachelorette parties. We locals laugh that you'll consistently hear "woooo!" after dinner on most weekends on Broadway. So, I would visit honky tonks around late afternoon before the "wooo's" take over.

If you enjoy history or nice walks outside, visit Andrew Jacksons home "The Hemitage". Nice place to walk around.

Just got home from there 2 days ago. I highly recommend Merchants for dinner. We walked down to Broadway Sat evening about 8. It was harder to walk thru the crowds than times square in my opinion. But it was fun!

Thanks for all the suggestions!!

The selfies for the teens will be important to add to the list :)
