Narcoossee's: Maine Lobster or Surf & Turf?

I've had the surf and turf and the tail is definitely NOT Maine lobster. It's rock lobster, which is not quite as sweet and tender as a Maine lobster. That meal is very filling to me. In fact, I've given DH one of the medallions of beef because it was too much for me to finish.

Thank you both for the reviews. :) I personally am not overly excited to eat here only because we are on the DDP (free, at least) so we have to each spend 2TS credits on it which I can't imagine it is worth, but lobster was my husbands ONLY request in regards to Disney.

I think I'll just play it by ear that night. If I'm pretty hungry, I will opt for the surf & turf but if I feel like a lighter dinner I will try the Maine lobster.

Thank you!

Fultons is now on the Dining plan (for 2012..also 2 TS), I think.

Their seafood is much better (IMHO) and they've ALWAYS had lobster on the menu when we've been there.

They also have a LOT more choice (in terms of portion size and menu choices), IMHO.

Great minds think alike! I was JUST looking at Fulton's since I remembered they joined the Signature bandwagon this year. I know we definitely want Maine lobster and some of their entrees are not Maine, but a couple are.

I'm specifically wondering about the "Louis Fulton's Ultimate Crab and Lobster Experience for Two"...it has what we want, and I would think we could both order it, but I may try emailing them to double check.

Also, I don't know if Disney's website is updated or if Fulton's actual website is -- directly on Fulton's website they list "Alaska Snow Crab and Maine Lobster", 10oz Snow crab and 1 1/4lb Maine lobster. That would work also, if their website is updated. Disney doesn't show that specific selection on their menu.

I think I will just have to email the restaurant to find out what is current, and what if any rules there are for using the DDP.

Fulton's menu changes FREQUENTLY, because they try to stay seasonal and fresh with their offerings.

Still, I've been there a half dozen times and...they've always had SOMETHING on their that includes Maine Lobster.

I'm not sure how they'll work on the DDP...that's a question you'll have to ask them (or keep an eye on the boards..I'm sure something will pop up).

Pound-for-pound, lobster is very rich and filling, and a minimum size lobster will be just under 1.25 pounds (of course not all meat). If your husband is trully a lover of lobster, I wouldnt necessarily eat them at DW, esp Maine lobster. I recreationally fish for Maine Lobster up here in CT. My guess is that the lobster you get in DW is frozen live or Pre-cooked. Certain distibution networks will offer them pre-cooked in sea water to maintain that "fresh-out-of the ocean taste". Lobsters are very perishable and dont keep out of a controlled-salt-water environment for not much longer than a day or so. If a fresh lobster was dead when cooked, you can usually tell because the tail won't curl. Some restaurants will have a tank with live lobsters in it and people will think that you are eating the ones in the tank, but in reality, the tank is just for show. This is not to say that their lobster is not good, and if you are not used to eating fresh lobster, then you probably will enjoy it just the same.

Just FYI: Fultons brings in fresh catch, every day. That's their "thing".

I've talked with the waiters about Lobster, in particular, and I can tell you that THEY told ME it's alive when they drop it in the pot.

It's not as good or as fresh as Abbotts down in Noank, but it tastes pretty fresh to me.

I also heard about the Surf & Turf being a rock lobster tail and not Maine. I've only ever had Maine lobster but I think other lobster is not as sweet as Maine lobster. I am afraid of being disappointed so I'll have to stick with the whole Maine lobster if we keep our Narcoossee's ADR. I am very strongly considering switching it to Fulton's, though.

Rock Lobsters are basically big crawfish (they're actually saltwater crawfish, as opposed to the smaller freshwater crawfish).

They don't, really, taste anything alike. Texture is roughly equivalent..and the shell looks "lobstery" enough...but the taste is completely different.

I had the whole lobster when we went and I was really worried about not being able to eat it all... but I did. If we hadn't been on the DxDP and would not have eaten so much prior to the meal, I know I could've finished everything on my plate. I was full afterwards though and there's just something about ordering a whole lobster that appeals to me :confused3 I thought it was very tasty though and hope to go back someday :)

I have had both several times, and I prefer the whole maine lobster. It is very filling, especially if you order an appetizer and dessert, like I do..lol..but, even without them, I thought the portion size of the lobster and the sides were enough to fill me up.

DH and I have eaten here twice and had wonderful meals both times. I think the whole Maine lobster was wonderful and honestly much better than the surf and turf that DH had. His wasn't bad, but it wasn't nearly as good as the whole lobster. Now, keep in mind we are land locked in KS and we don't get the best seafood unless we are on vacation so maybe my standards for seafood aren't as high as some people, but I thought that lobster was YUMMY!

I had the surf and turf twice last year and had really chewy lobster tail both times. The second time we went, we were a party of 8 and only 1 person had a decent surf and turf.

We have gone there last year and I had the suf and turf, my wife had the whole lobster. Both were fantastic and the atmosphere and view from Narcooses was excellent. I highly recommend it if you can afford it or use 2 tix from the DDP, well worth it imo. :cool1:

I've had the whole steamed Maine lobster at Narcoossee's several times and all of them were prepared perfectly. The claws were tender and the tail was slightly more firm; all of the meat was very sweet. Overall it was a light meal, so if you are a really big eater it might not leave you feeling stuffed. The surf and turf was also very good and would probably be more filling. My Dad said the filet was cooked perfectly and the tail was very sweet.

Narcoossee's is one of my family's favorite Signatures. We actually juggled our trip schedule around so we could go for a second dinner during our last trip.

Here are a couple of pictures:

I think this pic shows that this will be our signature meal on our next trip for sure. Looks great! Thanks for the pic!!
