Nail polish on carpet!

HELP!! My 3yo DD poured bright red nail polish on our carpet this afternoon while I was downstairs making lunch I've tried oxyclean, nail polish remover...EVERYTHING!! Does anyone have any other ideas that might work??

Yikes, I've been there and nothing I knew of worked. I hope you find something that does. It was my bedroom carpet and no one goes in there but me and the culprit.

I have since changed the carpet.

I hate to say it but there is no way to remove nail polish from carpet (unless it is made from natural fibers, even then it is nearly impossible) Any chemical that would break down nail polish (like acetone) will also break down the fibers in carpeting. The best solution is to leave it alone, allow it to totally dry and cut out the fibers. Rubbing it will just smear the polish around and make a bigger spot.

This happened to us when we stayed at a friend's house a couple of weekends ago. (Not sure if it was our kids or theirs).

Anyhow, when this was done it was just from toenails being polished and walking on the carpets. They just used a electric shaver or scissors and tried to cut it out of the carpet. It looks fine because it wasn't down deep. Is that something that would work for you?

That stinks.

The only thing that I can think of is to cut out the stained section and replace it with a patch from a closet. A professional carpet layer should be able to do it for you if you don't want to attempt it yourself.

Ugh...this isn't looking good..lol. The worst part of the spill is actually IN the closet..so it's not very visible. There is a spattering in the middle of the room and a few dots around the room. I think my best bet would probably be to try to call a professional tomorrow and see what they suggest as I don't want to continue to make it worse....and this is a RENTED house *EEEEP!*

I had a similar problem - not the carpet but an almost new slip cover. I used a product called Goo Gone and it did lighten the polish color quite a bit but it's still there. I think the idea of patching is probably the best option short of replacing it since it sounds like you've already gone past the point of just letting it dry and scraping or cutting the affected area (wish I had though of scraping but by the time I did, it was too late). The only other thing I can think of is to get an area rug - which would only work if the spot was in a place where a rug wouldn't look odd.

I had a similiar problem and called our professional carpet cleaner. He used a product that was primarily ammonia to break down the color. It can also fade carpets if you use too much.
