Myspace...

What do you think about it? Would you care if your child went on it..For me..I have an account but only my friends can contact me and my profile is 'private' where I must approve someone before they can talk to me...Also, no one under 18 can talk to someone over 18.

It seems like there have been a ton of Myspace threads around lately... there seem to be a good amount of people who don't really approve.

I personally don't see the point, kind of think it's stupid. Well, it's more stupid when it's a profile open to anyone who wants to read it. Freaks me out!! I never understood the reason for a blog anyway, esp when even people who you don't know can read it!! If you want to keep a journal, keep a journal.

I do understand more if it's open only to your friends and you're using it to update them on your life if you don't see them much.

If I had kids I wouldn't want them on it.

I don't mind it. My daughter has a page, and I like that I can browse it whenever I want. She knows this, so she's very careful about what she writes.

She's also smart enough not to get too personal with her info. But I've seen some pages that are way TMI. I think if the parents took a look, they'd be shocked.

I personally don't think those under 18 should be on it....some of the things I saw (and DH and I only looked for about an hour, mostly at a family members page) were shocking. If adult movies and videos are regulated, I can not see how it would be o.k. to have a teen or preteen on a site that has the same kinds of explicit images and videos on it....JMHO.

Also, I saw a woman, that I have know for about 18 years, who had her "age" as 15 so, I don't think you can assume that adults aren't mixing with the kids etc.

I am just glad they have the added featured of 'Private' so no one can bug you. Thats what I do

I'm pretty certain that MySpace is the 7th level of you-know-where. That said, I do have a profile there. I signed up to take part in a group populated by people I know. However, I have no personally identifiable information on my profile. No photo of me, I do not use my real name, do not give my city. I give all kinds of interests and such, so if you already know me, you'll know you've got the right profile, but otherwise, there's nothing you could do to track me down. It's an icky place, really. I just associate with those I already know. Not there to make friends with anyone new.

I am glad you have your info as private...you seem like a sweet, careful young lady....

but my concern is not only what people can see about a person, but what kind of information teens are exposed to.

I have an account and I went on my boyfriend's 15 year old brother's site and I was shocked. All of these girls (that are apparently girls he goes to school with) were posting half naked pictures of themselves on his comment screen (which everyone can see) and everyone's comments are "F-this, F-that". I was in high school 6 years ago and I was never dumb enough to have all of this stuff I could get in a lot of trouble for just out there for the whole world to see. But his mom doesn't check it because she respects his "privacy". He's a kid. And apparently he doesn't want ANYTHING to remain private.

Maybe your boyfriend should give Mom a heads up on this. Like Mom, I was just looking at ------my space page and look what I saw.

My 2 older girls have one, it is private, but I can see what is there and I do check a lot! Yes, I think they need some privacy, but it only goes so far.
