Myself and children have covid

I tested positive 4 days before a DVC trip a few weeks ago. I called member services and not only did they not put my points into holding, but the trip was booked on borrowed points and they put the points into their original UY. The CM was super nice. I even offered to submit a copy of my positive PCR test and they said please don’t worry about it, thank you for staying home and get well.

Omg what a relief ! I hope I get a cast member like that ! I called today and the person I spoke to said my borrowed points would be put into holding and have to be used in this years use year 😩 we didn’t cancel yet though they told me to call back Sunday .

We are DVC members , we haven’t ever cancelled a trip . We just tested positive Monday for covid . Two of us (myself and son are sick) we are all vaccinated . New CDC guidelines say we can leave isolation after 5 days if we have no symptoms . I’m worried about my other children . We borrowed 68 points for this trip . We are supposed to arrive Jan 3-7th. We really want to go but are worried about where everyone will be by the 3rd - we will be past the 5 days and we all , always wear our masks ( except for our Santa pics which I’m convinced is where we came in contact with covid) will member services take this into consideration what are the steps so we don’t loose our points ? This has never happened before . Will we loose them ?
What are your thoughts to just going on the trip you have booked if member services won't put the points back? I know you said you are worried about your other children, but if no one is showing symptoms two days before your trip then the option is obviously there to go on the trip. Either way, this stinks for you and your family. The stress alone of having to worry about this is not how you want to go into a WDW vacation. So sorry for you!

We are going in February and have already said that if none of us are showing symptoms then there is no way we are missing our trip. Regardless of potential exposures, we just won't have anyone tested if they aren't showing symptoms. This seems to be the new modus operandi by almost everyone we know, and it is supported by CDC guidance. Everything revolves around symptoms. Of course, if we are showing symptoms then we will need to get tested. These are very strange times!

This.

Of course, I'm concerned about what happens if we get sick on day 1 of vacation. But I just can't worry about what happens between point A and B anymore. I'm exhausted. We have gotten sick on vacation before. We will deal with it the same way, I guess.

I previously never had this mindset. We cancelled January 2021 because of "the possibilities".

My currently ill DD will no doubt be fine by Sunday. DH and other DD are leaving by car Friday. If they are symptom free Friday morning, off they go. I'm probably most worried I will come down with symptoms by Sunday and not be able to fly. I don't know if my DD (who is sick now) will just go on to join the others or stay behind.

And yes, we are walking around our house masked, eating in shifts, etc. Doing everything we can to not contaminate each other in the meantime.

Just a warning. We did all of that in our house and we think it only prolonged the inevitable. I live with three other people. All of us were fully vaxed and the adults were boosted. We kept isolating the people that tested negative. The final person to test positive TEN days after the first person did. And about 14 days after the first person showed symptoms. We should have just tried to get it over with all at once. Fortunately, no one had symptoms beyond a mild cold, but since it was Covid, it was extremely disruptive to our lives. We also exposed several high risk people while pre-symptomatic and it was also stressful while we waited out their potential infection period.

I think you're going to be alright. It's being said that this strain is most contagious in the first 5-days, so if your family started with this on Sunday ...you should show some symptoms by Friday. Like was mentioned before -the rapid tests don't seem as accurate at picking this up as Delta but I'd probably take one before I left just in case. Then wear your mask for the safety of others. Sorry to hear this happened and hopefully it all works out!

That’s great that they were able to help you out. I wish him best of luck with his cardioversion. I was also back in Afib a couple weeks ago and while I was laying on the table for my cardioversion, the ekg came back normal and I did not need the procedure after all. Yeah it was tough isolating while waiting for your procedure date. Tell him to hang in there,
Jo Jo, I hope everything goes well. My dad went into Afib this summer and was shocked into rhythm. His Dr waited a month to shock him. I was not happy about that and made him call again to schedule.

La2kw. Glad everything went well for you. It is amazing what medical technology can do.

That’s totally fine. But I am not sure why you would get tested without symptoms. I am not saying that non-symptomatic can’t spread it OR that not testing makes it disappear. I am saying that the recommendations are to get tested if you are having symptoms. Everyone can do what they feel they need to do, but the way the recommendations are going it is obvious that a large majority of people aren’t going to get tested unless they are feeling symptoms. That’s what they are being told to do.

At my daughter’s high school, kids don’t need to get tested even if one of their family members tested positive. They only need to get tested if they are experiencing symptoms themselves. That, to me, is crazy because of the fact that a child has a higher likelihood of getting COVID if they are living in the same house as someone who has it. But that’s the way things are trending. That, IMO, is why things are spreading so quickly right now. There are so many asymptomatic people people with COVID out there. Even in WDW. Sooo…if I don’t have symptoms I am not getting tested. Even if I was around someone who tested positive. Why would I get tested before I have symptoms? Especially knowing COVID is all around us. I would have to get tested three times a week if I did it every time I was around someone who tested positive.

And contrary to your statement, I am not giving advice. I’m just saying the way I am going to approach things, which is the same way a very large number of people are approaching things given the current circumstances. However, I do have actual advice: get vaccinated and boosted, and wear a mask where appropriate and/or where required. Then live your life.
Here is another point - I was negative on December 17th, I had a stomach virus , I missed one of my final exams because of this and my school required me to go get tested - so I could return and take the final exam ! I WAS SO MAD! My thoughts were first of all it’s a stomach bug ! Second , there are millions of other bacterias and viruses out there that causes illness ! I was forced to get this damn test when I was not sick with covid , therefore had to go to this testing facility where all these people were in line getting tested , had to go into the facility to get tested - and less than a week later , I HAD COVID! My suspicion is I got it from there or when we had photos with Santa done . It’s frustrating that every illness “might be covid “

I’m fine now minus being able to smell which will be super disappointing in Disney because you know the smell enhances the experience but we have been there so much that it’s not like it’s the end of the world.
Ugh! You have my sympathies! Hopefully your smell will come back a little more before your trip. Like you said, the smells are a big part of a WDW vacation. You still have some time...fingers crossed!!

I had to delete several posts regarding Covid that are not allowed. Remember, policy of Disney are allowed. If we get into territory that is questionable I’ll have to lock this down.

Thanks all!

I apologize if I posted something that I shouldn’t have , I did get the answers I needed from other members on here , so to avoid any trouble it’s ok by me if you take this one down .

Praying you get through this safely and hope you recover swiftly and no others get it. Yes the Rapid tests don't accurately detect Omicron per the CDC and don't actually tell you if its Delta or Omicron. PCR does but takes longer and more expensive.
Thank you !

I thought the 5 day quarantine ruling was only for asymptomatic people .
I’m not sure how to reply to this without going against the Disboards rules . As per the post above . Im just following my medical providers recommendations that were also with the new guidelines from CDC . I am asymptomatic- as with everyone else in the house . I’m past my 5 days , I will wear a mask as with everyone else . My son has a stuffy nose / if he has it still Sunday we will cancel . If he is asymptomatic then we will go and continue to follow Disney rules and mask rules per Disney and CDC . Also , I’ll follow recommendations from
Member services when I call again Sunday . We are all vaccinated except for my younger ones who haven’t been able to get the vaccine yet .

If your symptoms are improving and you are outside the 5 days the CDC says you are good to go ........ what have we been told for 2 years? Trust the science right?

OP has advice they wanted so we can end the discussion before it goes off track again.
