Myrtle Beach & WDW vacation!!!

Hey dis friends! I was thinking of attaching a Myrtle Beach vacation to a WDW trip & driving. I just wanted to know if anyone knows what there is to do in MB in FEB? Are there any really good restaurants? [I was looking for a good MB boards but can't seem to find one as active as the Dis.] Thanks for helping me.

That's what we did this past August! We drove to Myrtle Beach and stayed two nights. Then we drove to DW for a week. It was an awesome way to break up the road trip. Plan on doing it again this summer.

There's so much to do. Not sure about the weather in February. The beach is beautiful. We spent our days on the beach and our evenings dining and walking around the shops on the Broadway on the beach. They is plenty of things to do there. There's zip lining, boating and a bunch of other things to do there.

We did this a few years ago - did WDW and stayed in MB on our drive back home. It is so nice breaking up that 20-hour drive with something fun!

Of course, after running through WDW for 8 days, we were happy to lounge on the beach. But, there is so much to do at night. We saw one of the many dinner shows (we did Dixie Stampede, which isn't there anymore). Broadway at the Beach is a lot of fun for shopping and some attractions. There's also the Ripley's aquarium and other attractions there.

Lots to do. We enjoyed The River City Cafe (At least I thnk that is what it was called) when we were there. Good food, decent prices, family-friendly atmosphere.

We go to Myrtle Beach quite a bit. Last year we drove from NJ to Myrtle Beach, stayed a few days, drove to WDW, stayed a week, then did the same on the way back home. The first few hours from MB you are not on highways so it seems like it takes awhile.

Broadway at the beach has a lot of nice shops and eateries, there is another similar place called Barefoot Landing. A little further south (just a few minutes) in the marsh walk with some nice restaurants and bars. There is also the comedy cabana (adults only) for a night out

I really wanted to see the dixie stampede I was disappointed to see that over. I never thought of Ripley's those are fun places. & I'll check out the River City CAfe.

Myrtle Beach is cold in February. We always have a convention there in late March and they moved it to late Feb-early March. We aren't going this year. Unless the hotel has an indoor pool, count on freezing in Feb.
Broadway on the Beach and Barefoot Landing are outside shopping places so you have to go outside to get from venue to venue at each. The Atlantic winds are very chilly.
That being said, it's a great place to visit in late spring or fall. Summer is too crowded and expensive because of east coast vacationers but to each his own.

We was there last summer & went to the new Pirates Voyage Show its a Dolly Parton Dixie Stampede show. It had just opened up not to long before we was there. There was pirates before the show to take pictures with. We all enjoyed the show & food.

I would assume you would want seafood . . . The Sea Captain's House is IMO the best restaurant in Myrtle Beach. I would avoid the all-you-can-eat places if you want GOOD seafood.

Funbeaches.com, that is the most active forum. It isn't vacation time, so it isn't very active this time of year. People start posting and new folks start appearing around March time. It is a site and forum hosted by a couple who live in Myrtle Beach.

Note, I think a lot of places close down for the off-season from what I've read.

We were looking for a buffet because I remember as a kid going to an excellent seafood buffet every time we went down. I never dreamed all the seafood buffets would be Golden Corral like. We ate at the Original Benjamins and though it wasn't bad food, it certainly wasn't excellent, especially considering the $105 not including tip it cost the 4 of us (2 kids at half price.)

We go to Myrtle Beach quit often, as it is the closets beach to where we live. I love Myrtle. If you want good food though, you have to go off the beaten path, and go where the locals go. All that chain food and calabash seafood is terrible. Just south of Myrtle is Murrells Inlet,, lots of great local seafood there, my personal favorite is Drunkin Jacks. If you are into the more commercial stuff stay in the upper side of Myrtle (I won't say North Myrtle, because that is a different part) near Resteranut row. There are lots of good places there to eat, but you can eat at those anywhere, that is why I like the local stuff better. If you have kids Alligator adventure is great. I second this. Sea Captain's House is hands down the best place for seafood. Get early for dinner or you'll have to wait! It's on the beach and is in an old house. Great service and atmosphere.

It can be VERY cold in Feb! The last time I went in the winter, it was too cold and windy to even think about walking on the beach. We spent a lot of time indoors drinking hot chocolate.

I like the summer even with the crowds because the beach is fun.

Winter is the only season we can travel w/ work schedules. so...yea. I figure it's better than being in the North East in the winter. +MB has a ton to do so,it should work.

Yes, definitely remember Sea Captain's House.

Winter in MB will be chilly, but you can still have a TON of fun in the cold. When we go in the cold we just bundle up and shop, eat, play mini golf, etc. It can still be loads of fun.

My DS 4 loved Alligator Adventure. We go in March each year and usually go to Broadway at the Beach and this year we might try the Pirate Dinner Show. Weather in March can be iffy. We have had some really nice weather and were able to go and play on the beach and other days it was cold so we were at our resorts indoor pool! I would expect February to be chilly.

For restaurants I'd recommend Sticky Fingers. There are two different locations. I've only been to the one near Broadway at the Beach and we've had good experiences with that one. I'd also recommend Ultimate California Pizza at Barefoot Landing. The pizza prices can't really be beat and they have some unique options, as well as a laid back atmosphere, and of course it tastes great too.

There is an Ultimate California Pizza that has a large arcade area not too far from the other one, but again I haven't tried that one.

This winter, the south-ie Myrtle- has been unseasonably warm, so I hope you'll still be able to enjoy all that MB has to offer. Just this past Sunday we had temps in the low 70s here in Upstate SC and near the beach was mid 70s

Since I have a Sticky's five minutes from my house, I don't go to them on vacation. I do, however, recommend them in general if you like ribs. If you think you might eat there, go online and join the Sticky Club -- you'll probably get a coupon for a free appetizer or dessert.

Check out Dunes Village Resort in North Myrtle. It's very close to Broadway on the Beach (with lots of fun things to do). They have FANTASTIC off season rates and two indoor water parks. I live two hours north of MB and a lot of "locals" take advantage of the off season rates for a weekend get-away. The water parks will give you LOTS to do INSIDE. Rooms are big and clean with full kitchens!
