Have a non-Orlando question. Looking for a nice, family oriented hotel or resort in the Myrtle Beach area. Leaving for our sping break, so ideas are needed quickly. THANKS:banana:

The only one that comes to mind right now as a family oriented resort is Sea Mist. I have heard good things about it in the past (I grew up there so I didn't actually stay at any of the hotels), but I have been in Florida for the last 13 years, so it could have changed.

If you are familiar with the area, the Pavilion closed last year, and as of my last visit it had been mostly dismantled, and the only amusement area right now is Family Kingdom, which is very close to Sea Mist. I think they have a water park in the area as well.

HTH,

Amie

IMO, the nicest resort in MB is Kingston Plantation. They have the traditional Embassy Suites(with the nightly managers reception and cooked to order breakfast), they also have condos and villas. The Embassy Suites and the condos are ocean front and the villas are toward the back. If you need the space and the kitchen, the villas are very nice. They have a very nice water park, activities for kids, a pool bar with entertainment, ect. There are also many nice restaurants nearby. I especially love Rossi's. Let me know it you have any more questions.

If you want to get away from MB proper I'd recommend Litchfield by the Sea, its about 1/2 hour south of MB and it's not as touristy. They have all types of rentals from hotel rooms to houses. Tons of great golf and food close too. My parents live down thee so were there 3 to 4 times a year. We don't care for MB proper.

Growing up I spent all my summers in MB luckily we had a beach house, but that being recently sold we had to look for a place to visit the Pavilion one last time. We stayed at a resort called Compass Cove and it was wonderful! It was on the south end of Ocean Blvd and real close to a few water parks. It has around 13 pools a few lazy rivers and a wonderful kiddie pool complete with a submarine. The rooms are mostly Condos with small kitchens in them, but come with anything you need in there and there is also a resturant on site with a small bar lounge for late night snacks.

If you are wanting to do upscale accomdations I would try Coral Beach stayed there once and loved it. It is a little pricey, but has wonderful service.

We stayed at the Radisson (I think) downtown about three years ago. It was very nice, but I think it was very pricey (we were there on company business and dime). I remember dh saying we would look at staying there some other time, and he checked the price and said, oh, well. :) Worth checking into though, if you aren't worried about saving money.

I stayed at the Springmaid Beach Resort in Myrtle Beach for a Veterinary Conference this past June. I thought the hotel was very clean, and the location was fantastic!! It has a few different pools, a long pier that the resort guests can use free of charge. There is a grill type restaurant, and ice cream shop right on the pier. They have a good sized cafeteria style restaurant also.
The rooms are large, with big balconeys all overlooking the ocean. They have mini kitchens, with a full sized fridge and microwave. I can't remember what the prices were exactly, but they were very reasonable.

How far of a drive is it from Myrtle Beach (Cherry Grove area) to Orlando?

We love Waters Edge Resort. All rooms are condo's with full kitchens. You have your choice of 1,2 or 3 bedrooms. The couch makes out to a bed. Washer dryer. All water front. As as matter of fact at high tide the ocean comes right to the hotels deck.

We stated at Beach Cove Resort in North Myrtle Beach the last couple of years. North MB is less congested and more family oriented. You will find a wealth of info on the MB message board @ www.funbeaches.com

We stayed at Sand Dunes in July, the waterpark and beach access were great, but the hotel itself was very run down. The whole trip I kept thinking I paid close to $175 a night for this:mad: You might try to find something close to Braodway at the Beach, it is a great shopping, dining and entertainment district we went there almost every night. Hope that helps.

my wife and daughter just got back from the Sea Mist. they voted it a thumbs down.

Here's a new place I got a flyer in the mail about:

http://www.avistaresort.com/

it has 2 lazy rivers! The pictures look nice. maybe you can find some info from people who've stayed on TripAdvisor. It's not been open long, though, so there might not be much.

Hi - We stayed in NBM at Crescent Shores and LOVED it. The rooms were fantasic, reasonable, included the maid service at the end of your stay, and had a beautiful view. The pools and lazy river were nice also. I would definately stay there again.

Good Luck

:grouphug: The family has been chatting about the wonderful information the "disboards family" has provided. THANKS so much for the input. Keep it coming - the more information the better!!

Try out this message board forum for Myrtle Beach.

http://www.funbeaches.com/forum/

A lot of useful info there. Also, pick up the coupon books when you can to save $ off of meals at restaurants (they are everywhere down there one of them is called the Sunny Day guide). Plus if you like to miniature golf, etc. you might want to sign up for discount cards for some of the entertainment places down there.

If your hotel is not at the beach, there are free beaches with free parking in between the rental homes, etc. You can do a search on the board for people's favorite spots.

To fit it into a Disney Theme, there is a Captain Hook's Miniature Golf there. Lol.

In Litchfield by the Sea, we've stayed at the Bridgewater condos and the hotel. Both were very nice and it is a quieter atmosphere than Myrtle Beach. In north Myrtle, we've stayed at the Embassy Suites in Kingston Plantation. Again - very nice. We've stayed at Compass Cove in Myrtle Beach and I honestly can't recommend it. Our room was really, really bad - while other areas of the resort were nice. Check out tripadvisor.com - the reviews are very mixed for Compass Cove. Good luck w/ your decision.

Well, I haven't stayed yet, but I booked Shore Crest Villas for the 4th of July through Hotelkingdom at a very good rate. It is located near, can't think of the name...Barefoot Landing? The other major entertainment area besides Broadway at the Beach.

www.kingstonplantation.com

It is our favorite place at MB,SC. There is a variety of accomodations, a Hilton, Embassy Suites, golf course villas, oceanfront condos, etc. in a gated community close to restaurant row and Barefoot Landing.

I agree with the previous poster about Rossi's. DH loves it. Across the street from where Rossi's is located is a little hole in the wall place called Bimini's Oyster Bar, it has great seafood. We like the steamer pot!
