Jey gang! Anyone know if and how we can get the Magic Your Way free dining for a vacation while staying on points?

Spend the $45 or whatever for a room at the All Stars? ;)

Not only can you not get it for "free", you can't get it @ all via DVC. Not to repeat myself...if you want it available to purchase in the future, please e-mail MS and request it.

I got into this tangent yesterday with a DVC ressie CM I spoke to (had called about our upcoming August visit, but that's a different story). Politely complained to her that "it's not your fault, but it would be really nice if members could at least purchase the same dining plans the general public can." For what it's worth, she claimed "DVC is considering making changes that would allow you to do that."

That would be very cool! We eat at enough table service restaurants that the $35 per adult and $10 per child would be a bargain. I cancelled my studio at SSR for 8/21-8/27 and booked at CSR to get the free dining.

Robin, glad you were lucky enough to be able to do that. We're kind of stuck, last September I did a day-by-day ressie of a BW view villa at the BWV for August 16-23rd. Changing our schedule and giving up that kind of accomdation was too much just to get some free dining!

It's nice to see that other are as bummed by this as my family was. We thought great we can purchase the MYW dining, what a great deal and then...."Oh were sorry you can not do that because your staying at a DVC resort". When my sis called the CM told her they get "LOTS" of calls/e-mails every day about this. So like keishashadow said, please keep calling and sending e-mails and hopefully they will address/fix this soon.

I am so happy to hear this, the more noise we make, the quicker things get done! :goodvibes

I have a suspicion that it's more than a technical computer problem with the dining plan and DVC. I find it hard to believe that they can't figure out a computer fix in 6 months. My bet is they can't swing a deal with the dept that handles the dining plan. When a non-dvc'er books a room and ticket package, it's usually at rack rate. So the money they lose on the dining plan (assuming most people eat more than the $35 they pay), they makeup on the rest of the package. With DVC members, there wouldn't be a package containing a overpriced room to balance it out.

Disney outsourced their IT. They won't be making systems changes unless they have Return on Investment.

I crunched the numbers the other day for a MYW pkg w/tickets & dining compared to the dues on a studio + AP's for 2 adults and it left $300 for dining for 10 days. Lesser value on the room and the AP's go further but it makes the dining very tempting.

I don't think it's a computer problem. I think they want to sell packages.

I sent DVC an email today. When I told my mom we couldn't add the dining plan on cause we're staying on DVC points so replied - sounds like you are being penalized for being in DVC. It was embarrassing.

We are not being penalized. AP room rates are also not eligible for MYW dining. The cost of the full price room package offsets the cost to Disney of the dining plan. DVCers and AP room have never been able to book a package dining plan, except for the Food'N'Fun card, that was available to all onsite guests.

BTW, AP rates book through CRO/WDW travel just like the packages....it is NOT a computer glitch...that is why it is called a "package".

Interesting, I just estimated my recent trip for 9 nights in a OKW studio...dues, initial cost of OKW/50 years, what we spent on food, and what 2 AP renewals cost and it came in just under $2,000 total. (2 adults)

OKW studio @ 259 per night = 2331, MYW = $630, 7 day hoppers $498.42 = $3459.42 PLUS ROOM TAX

I spoke with someone in DVC management about another issue a couple of months ago and she said the samething. I think that it is going to be offered soon. Not sure how the perk is going to work--

I totally agree with this. Why should Disney offer us any kind of food package? We aren't paying rack rate each stay, and we have full kitchens for a reason. I just don't get it. If you want the dining plan, pay full price for the accommodations like the others who are taking advantage of it. I also think the dining options are a bit restrictive. We never eat at counter service places and never eat breakfast in the parks, and $35 wouldn't begin to cover a meal at the places we like to dine.

All DVC units do not have full kitchens (i.e. studios). I didn't buy into DVC for the kitchen, I wanted to enjoy the other amenities at the resorts.

We used the plan in February, it was perfect for our family and I'd like to have the opportunity to use it again in connection with my DVC membership. I don't want it for "free", I just want to be able to purchase it. Call it a food package if you must, but I'd be happy to buy it as an add-on to a mandatory ticket package. I consider the AP discount a perc, wherein it saves you money on your tickets and, in turn, offers an opportunity to buy the dining card. IMHO not much different in letting DVC'ers the opportunity to purchase the MYW dining.

Remember, DVC is not "one size fits all". What is right for you is not necessarily what everyone else wants. Obviously, there is some level of demand for the MYW dining option or it wouldn't be under serious consideration by DVC.

My thoughts exactly!

The only thing that concerns me is that I can't help but wonder if it really is under serious consideration or not. Some posters here may be right, they could just be saying that to get us off their backs...

I'm not upset about the FREE plan, and I'm not even all that excited about getting a plan in the future at all.

I looked at the charges from our last trip for our eating habits (4 adults) for 6 days. It was about $900-1000. We like the sit downs and don't do much counter service. Then I figured the dining package cost for us would run about $840 for 6 days. (I'm assuming it would be the same $35 a day per person as the standard plan.)

From what I can tell, we'd be better off with the DDE card's 20% savings. We'd have more choices and not be limited to one sit-down per day, and we wouldn't have to use two meal options for some of our favorite restaurants. (Or however that works.) We wouldn't save much, if anything, with a DVC dining plan. And the DDE covers alcohol. We like a cocktail or two and a good bottle of wine with dinner - 20% off booze is definitely better than 0% off booze!

So a dining plan wouldn't do much for us.

My mom and I wanted to add it onto our upcoming trip. I was a little surprised we couldn't pay the $35 / $10 per night to get the dining plan. What makes us different? Oh ya, we got a kitchen and paid a ton of money up front promising WDW we'd visit for years and years to come.

My mom is not a DVC member, I am. And her view of us not being able to purchase the dining plan like those staying at say Pop Century in her eyes is like us being penalized. And I must say I agree with her. :teeth:

If you don't think the plan is a good deal for you, that doesn't mean it shouldn't be offered as an add on option cause some of us might think it is a good deal. :goodvibes
