Our account says the bands will "ship at any moment". At this point we are less than a week until we arrive (next Saturday). Should we assume the bands will just go to the resort?:confused3

I have heard a very good explanation concerning all of NextGen, which includes MagicBands, Fastpass Plus, My Disney Experience, RFID tickets and everything related.

The description is from a friend who is a very high-level Technical Specialist in Disney's IT department: "This is a railroad claimed to be in full operation while they are still building the locomotive".

Everything is in testing and development. There is nobody who can give any accurate answer about any of these, or their interactions.

Everything is still subject to change on a daily basis.

And nobody has any idea when when everything will work. My personal opinion, also, is that Bob Iger's public statements are prepared by the PR department and not by knowledgeable people.

I also have a question that just came to mind.
IF we are selected for testing MB and they are shipped to us, will the member of our party who is arriving several days later and would have his MB with him, be able to go directly to our room and open the door.

I guess what I am asking is -
are all MB associated with the same room updated automagically or does each one need to physically stop and check in at the front desk for room info to be updated.

Yes. Radio Frequency Identification.

This is a technology not unique to Disney. It is a way to wirelessly transfer data. Some other common uses are electronic toll collection and Home Again chips inserted into pets.

thanks...but why are people talking about it in regards to Disney? I see many posts about it but its all greek to me

They have these new bracletts that you can wear to pay for your meals and quick services, open the door to your room, enter the park with it as your ticket, use it for fastpasses, etc..

Thanks for asking that information!

Glad to know they have kiosks in the parks because for us : on a vacation, no phone with us!

Extra question : can you plan all your FP+ at those kiosks or you have to do that in advance?

does anyone know - how many of these kiosks and where are they located? I'm hoping throughout the park.......and that I don't have to traipse back up to the front of the park if I ever want to make a change or pull a FP+

According to wdwmagic.com, these were the locations of the FP+ kiosks during the June testing period:
• Magic Kingdom: City Hall, Buzz Lightyear FASTPASS distribution, Splash Mountain FASTPASS distribution.
• Disney's Hollywood Studios: Tower of Terror FASTPASS distribution, Star Tours FASTPASS distribution.
• Disney's Animal Kingdom: Guest Relations and Primeval Whirl FASTPASS distribution.
• Epcot: Captain EO FASTPASS distribution and Maelstrom FASTPASS distribution.

They are scattered through out the park with one or two kiosks at each station.
MK has a set by buzz Lightyear, a set by jungle cruise, I believe a set by PP flight and some at guest relations. Not sure if they are out for the August tests but that's where they were last year when I tested this in like October/November.

Yeah those aren't there anymore. They are in the 4 corners of the park now. By splash, by the dumbo/barnstormer FP machines, in city hall, and across in the town theater. That's it. Hopefully they install a lot more.

They are in various places in the other parks. Not sure where in EP other than GR. HS I saw one at ToT but no place else (I'm sure there is something in GR) and AK I know there is one by Everest but not sure where else.

If you are from Canada then the bands are supposed to be shipped to your resort, no matter what the website or IT specialist tells you. :goodvibes

Oh wow I liked the original placings because there was one in each land or almost each land making it quick and easy to change things.

Considering that thousands of people have already used their Magicbands (with pre-scheduled FP+) during recent tests without so much as a single hiccup, I'd say the train analogy is thoroughly flawed and frankly makes little sense. For a large number of testers (including users of the MDE website and FP+) it's been a 100% flawless experience (as reported first hand by several people here and other places).

Sure, issues have arisen, and some people have encountered problems. And there have been some periods of downtime on the RFID equipment (which was cleared up after 20-30 minutes at most, or when it wasn't, there was a workaround by using a KTTW card instead of RFID scanners). I don't know too many railroads without a locomotive that have delivered a large percentage of passengers to their destination.

Cars occasionally break down. Software (across all types of devices) occasionally crashes. That doesn't mean that they were released before they were functional, it simply means that some things can't be ironed out until large-scale, widespread testing puts a system through its paces. There are always extra bugs that crop up when things go "live" on a large scale and it's hardly exclusive to Disney. Yes, there have been problems (maybe Disney needs better IT people). But the fact is that guests by the thousands are experiencing the NextGen system without having any issues.

What verbiage are you referring to? The only verbiage I am aware of doesn't mention resort guests, but Magic Your Way Ticket and Annual Pass holders specifically.

So, if I do not attach my Magic Band to MDE, I can still use my old tickets for park entry.

I guess since I have a resort reservation AND I have ATTACHED tickets to MDE, I will be able to use Fastpass+ sixty days prior to my arrival!

This does presume that you can actually get the MagicBands prior to your trip. If they aren't available to you then, then you'll need to spend some time getting the tickets reactivated/reissued.

You don't? How about Amtrak. Maybe you have to live on the East Coast and use the train often to realize.

That many people had a flawless experience, but for many it was terrible is (still) unconvincing. I am willing to be convinced, but I will go with a Missouri theory: show me. They need to make it work. Working mostly is not sufficient.

Seriously? You're arguing with Cheshire Figment? A CM who has been watching all of this play out up close? And who may be one of the knowledgable and insightful people on these boards? Really?

we were just there last week and tested the bands, from what I remember, each band had to be swiped to activate, so no he would not be able to just go up to the room as his band will not have been activated yet, of course this could all change before you get there also.

from what I saw or heard there were more hiccups than not, at least while I was there, I never did get tickets attached to ours, yes they worked great for the door( most of the time) for buying food, getting in to SAB, but not the FP+ part in fact the system actually totally wiped my soon to be SIL ticket completely even after being told it was now atached.

Uhhhhhh..... meanwhile back on to the subject matter at hand. :)
Has there been any further official releases from Disney as to the release of program as a whole?

Thanks.

So he would go to resort check-in, (presumably show ID) swipe there to activate and would he get a PIN too?

In case you haven't figured it out, no one (not even his wife :rotfl2:) wants to leave the park to check him in, if not necessary.

Just thinking....... is there a separate check in line for testers? I did online check in for my upcoming trip. Just wondering what the process will be. So they activate our MB at check in then later we go pick up our tix at Will Call and they will link them to our MB there?
