My Wish for PSU....

And right now, for the moment, if that's our priority- that's ok. It doesn't make anything "go away", it doesn't change our disgust for some people's inaction and one person's actions. Nobody is saying by focusing on the game that everything is back to "normal". "Normal" for Penn State has changed

It makes the point that RIGHT NOW, TODAY, what we can do is focus on a silly game and band together to cheer- that Penn State Spirit

WE can't change this last week, WE can't heal the boys, WE can't do anything but scream

"WE ARE..."

That's just weird.

As if paying thousands of dollars to see people dressed like mice isn't weird

Assuming you're talking about Disney, that's harmless weirdness. I'm saying that feeling good about yourself and your "team" so you can heal and move on while several kids (now adults) are screwed up is weird.

Weird to you, not thousand's if not millions of others. Do u hate football in general or just psu :confused3

If you have never been a student or attended a game, you will NEVER understand the force of the spirit of Penn State. You can't. The spirit of PSU is contagious at every event- from Football games to graduation. It is full of hope- hope for success, hope for a future, hope.
Please - don't you realize that this is true at dozens of other schools across the country??

It is not unique to Penn State.

Penn State isn't even supported by all of PA. I lived in Pittsburgh and Bucks County. Never even met someone who was into PennState. On the eastern side of the state they were more into the Ivies, and the western side was more into Pitt.

Shoot I did my undergrad work at a women's college. The spirit and support there was tremendous. Not for sports as we didn't have any - but believe me these alums don't make donations that are sometimes in excess of $10million dollars just because they "kind of liked it".

I know there is a PSU campus down in Bucks co.. how you went living here and never met a PennStater is pretty strange...

Neither. I went to a Big Ten school and know how much fun sporting events are and my DH is a high school football coach. I'd have no problem with my kid going to Penn State either. I just don't like that some people think the program is bigger than the person and a lot of PSU fans right now are inadvertently putting the program and school first.

FWIW, I think coverups are common in all universities, campus police are too focused on reputation, and many faculty members and students are so steeped in the culture that they forget what life is like on the outside of school…including laws. Hopefully, this is a wake up call to college brass that things don't end with them. Unfortunately, this victim mentality on display by people who had nothing to do with it yet have delusions that they're being attacked doesn't hold much promise for people standing up and doing the right thing.

its not like I can go down there and counsel any one or much of anything else right now... so all I can do is cheer for the football team on TV :cheer2:

I think it is particularly hard on many of the psu supporters who truly believed that jp was a god. Turns out he has some major, major flaws - that integrity bit did not apply across the board. No one with true integrity would have continued to allowed the creep near the players.

I don't think jp is a horrible evil person - but he made some really bad decisions. Which unfortunately now are hurting the institution that he loved. It is really tough being disappointed by someone in whom you placed total trust. They (psu supporters) are really hurting.

Psu is just a school. It is not heaven and it's not hell. It's certainly not one of the great universities in the country, but it is a perfectly acceptable state school that used to have a good football team. It's not even the best school in PA.

Agreed. I grew up in Bucks. Many, many people are/were PSU fans. Other colleges also of course, but Penn State was very big in Bucks.

I see nothing wrong with supporting the team. Those kids had nothing to do with this mess so why penalize them? Save that for those that were involved. I don't see that supporting the PSU team has anything to do with the horrible actions of a few.

I'll just add that I am not a PSU fan. I just don't see why some want them to slink away and be contrite for something they had nothing to do with.

Okay. Some will make be watching the Attorney General's office like hawks making sure the kids get justice. Some will email their congressmen or local leaders to be sure everyone is held accountable. Some will be watching the university to make sure transparency will be key in every department from here on out. Some will volunteer to work with sexual assault victims. Some will raise awareness about signs and results of sexual assaults. And some will cheer at a football game.

And that's what it's all about, isn't it? Thanks again for making everyone's point that the priorities of some are a little out of whack.
Pardon me, but I thought this thread was intended to be about a football game. I don't see her cheering on PSU to be out of whack :confused3.

Some will do a combination of those things.

With everything that's happened, I don't think it's "just about a game" right now. Sorry, prioritizing football while putting aside something painful is what created this situation in the first place.

Exactly. Cheering for a football team does not preclude people from doing any or all of those things and attempting to return to some kind of normalcy does not mean that people don't care.

But this isn't and shouldn't be normal.
