My Un-magical FP+ Experience...

I've read the whole thing. I just wish there is a little more perspective. There are thousands of people that visit WDW each day. Are all of them unhappy? If so, why do they come? If they have a better solution to all of the crowds (rather than their individual needs) let us know.

As one of the obviously ignorant and dreaded "newbies".... (P.S. Why so many ""?), I won't say anything about FP legacy or FP plus although I really really want to.

I will say that when I started working for my company my health insurance was much cheaper and better than it is now. Each year, the cost went up a little. My deductible went up 2 years ago. My out of pocket max went up last year. And they changed some of the things that could be covered. They took away benefits and never even asked me. Jerks! But I never thought about quitting or dropping my coverage. Because I realized how lucky I am that I have this. So many many people don't have insurance and many are way more expensive than mine. I was blessed! And even though it wasn't perfect and I wasn't getting everything that I selfishly believed I was entitled to, I made it work for me and life is good.

Anyone here good with analogies? If so, suck it up, put on your big kid pants, and have fun anyway! You have no one to blame but yourself if you don't have a good time. Your life is what you make it. My family will arrive in 28 days and we will have fun even if we don't get to ride everything and see everything because we are blessed to be there and we are a family together.

Now, I am going back to my newbie bubble because it is fun and exciting there.

But I totaly respect people who enjoy Fp+ when they vacation as well, I just feel like the pro fp+ crowd gets angry very quick, I know I am generalizing but just a vibe i get. Thats when I start to wonder who is behind the posts? Know what I mean?

I don't think either side gets angry, but it does seem the anti side gets derisive fairly often.

What you are leaving out of the equation is that FP+ has only been up and running now for under a year since the end of testing.

For many people (myself included) they have only had 1 trip back since implementation, and for others they haven't even been back yet. Judging by the sheer numbers of fp unhappy guests we saw/heard at guest services the day we had to venture there, and the number of unhappy fp comments I've seen on here I cant help but think that the effects will be more long term rather than immediate. Time will tell. It may be that Disney could become a more one and done destination for some people. Some may try the new fp and love it. Some like us will choose to spend more of our vacation dollars elsewhere . Unlike some posters here the sun doesn't rise and set for us on Disney so we'll deal but I personally just find the hole thing off putting for the vacation style that I prefer. I've said it once before....I spent more time by far planning this most recent trip to Orlando then I did planning a 1 month trip to Australia and the South Pacific. Having now reaped "the rewards" of that planning for us it didn't come close to paying off sad to say. 99% of our disappointment was due to fp+
Disney isn't going out of business any time soon but whether the current version of fp will remain in its current form will depend imho on how many people fall into each category.

Now I have to stay up till midnight to get the fp+ and times that I want and then get up with the chickens to get to work so that I can pay for the vacation.

Many of us do think the world revolves around us, don't we :). The east coast isn't the center of the universe. Tens of thousands of guests visit from other time zones. Right here in the continental United States, many only have to "stay up" until 9 PM.

Question for the longtime visitors unhappy with the long lines: how did you feel about the waits in the late 90s before FastPass? According to this spreadsheet https://spreadsheets.google.com/spr...9DI5I5dlcGxxMHh3NnlNc1NzLTNFSDJ2MkVLVXc&hl=en 1997 attendance was about 17,000,000 at the Magic Kingdom, compared to 18.5 or so in 2013.

I'm on the east coast, and midnight isn't even late for me. It's 2 AM now, and I'm nowhere near sleepy yet.

I have been many times and will continue to go back. Changes are not the problem. Supply and demand are.

You never complain about anything? Or you always like everything? Gotta be one or another...

Oh wait. Are you complaining about supply and demand? Best not go back

Analogy.

You go to your favorite restaurant where they have always made the apple pie from scratch and served it with homemade vanilla bean ice cream. This time they serve you grocery store brand frozen pie with $3 a tub ice cream for the same price.

You will pull up your proverbial "big girl panties" (really?) and pay the same $10 and leave the same tip just happy to have had a piece of pie?

Hmmmmm. Interesting

:confused3 now don't go being logical.

Our family is headed back to WDW for the 30th time (not counting DH's and my Disneymoon) this December. I have every reason to believe this trip is going to be absolutely magical! Having said that, I totally resent how much time I have had to invest in making it so! As a 30+ trip veteran, I shouldn't have to put more than an hour into planning a fabulous Disney vacation. That is how it has been for years! Am I getting anything new and additional to warrant this? Not really. Just SDMT! I am going to be seeing and doing the things I've seen and done for years with almost zero effort or planning! I feel like I have had to sit at my computer (not doing other things with my life) for months to plan for Disney Parks I know like the back of my hand. I could see spending this amount of time so we could understand a new vacation spot. I am sure we will go back to Disney because I know we are going to have a fabulous time. It just won't be real soon!

I just came back from my October trip. I was on the fence about this but your post sums up my experience. I had to spend months planning to get what I wanted and we only went for four days. Then there was the beach....ahhhh that's when the rest & relaxation started. Because of all the planning, I was able to see the new things SDMT & Be Our Guest. But it took too much planning time. The park was packed but we inched our way & stood in the lines. I don't think there will ever be a slow time at Disney.

We went to Universal & I hardly had time to read about the tips about ins and outs but just a paragraph or 2 because I was just tapped out with planning. We just got FOTL & voila done & enjoyed it. No months of hounding the boards.

Yes we had a good time because of planning. We'll probably skip it for a few years.

Wow - this sounds like exactly what happened to all the food at Disney over the last 10 or so years

Here's a twist on your pie and ice cream analogy:

You always make the most delicious rhubard pie that serves 10- and you give it away for free. You also have a pretty nice ice cream, but you sell it at a ridiculous price. You have 4 people that love rhubarb pie- they know the secret- it's delicious!! They also know where they can buy the ice cream much cheaper. But nobody else knows what rhubarb pie is, you don't tell them about it much, and being reluctant to try new things, no one else ever eats your rhubarb pie. Those 4 people love it and they love getting as much pie as they want, because nobody else eats it. But they don't buy your ice cream as much. You want more people to eat your pie and buy your ice cream more, but you realize if you convince them to eat it, there's not enough pie to go around.

So, you make a big rhubarb pie and you tell everyone about it. Free pie with purchase of ice cream! Those buying the ice cream, get first dibs on the pie. They eat it up and quick. You're happy because more people are eating your pie and buying your ice cream. The 4 people who ate your little pie are furious, because sometimes they can't get any pie and and they don't want to pay more for ice cream.

Moral of the story- If you want the pie, buy the ice cream.

Now I'm hungry for pie....thanks.

That's what happens when you "give" the food away- free dining is the scourge of the earth I tell ya!
