Ok well my son, who is not very athletic, asked if there was a walking trail at the POP, I said yes, why. He said he might want to walk some more!
I just laughed. Then it got us thinking, has anyone ever measured how many mile you walk at each park? We were just curious! :confused3

I know a 9 year old girl who wore a pedometer in Epcot this week. It showed she walked 7 miles.

I'm not sure how a pedometer works. If it measures the number of steps taken and determines that X amount of steps equals 1 mile, then I don't think this is accurate. You can take a lot of steps waiting in line but going nowhere.

I remember reading somewhere that you average about 6 miles a day if you stay in the park all day long and move from one attraction to another. Seems a great fun way to get some exercise!

I have been wearing a pedometer to WDW for many years. I average 7-9 miles per day in the parks; my record high in one day is 14 (that was an Epcot day, of course).

Just out of curiosity I started writing down the milage at the end of each day when I started keeping trip notes. I can look back at my trip reports over the last 6 years and find out how many miles I have walked on each trip!

Lizanne, you are correct about how a pedometer works. It measures the number of steps and divides that by the length of your average stride, which you set into the pedometer yourself. The milage is an approximation; some strides will be longer and some will be shorter, but after having used a pedometer on many courses whose actual milage was known, I can tell you that a quality pedometer is usually acurate to within 5%.

My pedometer is a nice digital that I bought at Dick's Sporting Goods about 3 years ago. It's a Freestyle Pacer Pro; it goes for about $20.

Yes, I did for our first trip. I think we walked about 62 MILES in 4 days @ the parks. Talk about tired feet..... And the park we walked the most in? Animal Kingdom. It's bigger than you think.....

I've been wearing a pedometer every day for the last 4 months. The most I've done is 13,000 steps (about 6 miles). I average about 8,000 steps/day. I should be doing 10,000-12,000. I told my DH I was going to wear it on our trip to WDW this fall because I'm sure I walked at least 8-10 miles a day the last time we were there. We'll see. Mine keeps track of 7 days worth of steps including aerobic steps. It also tells how many calories you burn. You have to put in your weight and your stride length for it to calculate all of that. If we all walked everyday as much as we do at WDW, we wouldn't even have to think about weight. I wish!!
