it's not going good! When they walked into the room there was a cockaroach and in the bathroom was either leg/pubic hair. I wish I was making this up, my parents and myself had a wonderful time ourselves there last year.

My sister and her boyfriend are contemplating moving to Port Orleans for some extra $ after we enjoyed staying there a few weeks ago.

Right now they are stuck on the boat going from MGM to Yacht Club and it's a thunderstorm so they won't run it. They would run to the Yacht Club to make their reservation but it's pouring, no luck :(

Hopefully when I join them tommorow I will bring them some luck!

The cockroach was just trying to get out of the weather, too. It's FL. They are everywhere. It's not a cleanliness issue in FL.

Now the hair in the room, I'd ask Housekeeping to reclean the room.

I agree. Roaches and palmetto bugs are a way of life in Florida. Have them reclean the room.

Yea I know they are all part of "Florida", but it's still not the way you want a vacation to start. Not the end of the world, but still something that you don't want to see first thing when you enter the room (no matter what town/state/country). They aren't letting it ruin their vacation or anything along the lines..... I believe they are in the process of going to POFQ now, maybe it was a blessing because they kind of wanted to stay there all along :rotfl:

It can happen at all the resorts. It doesn't just happen at the values. I have a very nice house here and still get them every now and then. When you come to Florida you have to get used to the bugs, lizards, snakes. It is a fact of life here in Fl.

.... and I know this :) . All I stated was that no matter what, if it was a monkey in the room it would have been a not so great "first experience" at the resort. I'm not saying Disney should pay for the rest of the vacation LOL. There's things that are not preventable to a certain extent, but still can stink to have to experience. No one's life is at risk, just noting that my sister had two unexpected things in her room.

I had one of the best stays in all the visits I've been to WDW at Pop Century, this doesn't have any effect on the GREAT quality and value of the resort.

Come on....
You people are very accepting.
Roaches????
Maybe in a Motel 6, but a Disney resort?
I would be checking out fast.
They should be able to afford routine maintenance exterminators.

have you ever been to Florida? :rotfl2:

I hope they aren't checking out of POP and into Port Orleans because of the roach, because we stayed at POR 8/06/05-8/13/05 and had a roach in our room. I know to expect those huge palmetto bugs (blech!!), but this was an actual roach, which I thought did indicate cleanliness problems (correct me if I'm wrong on that). We saw it on our way out to the Studios one morning and I called the hotel after we got to the park to let them know they needed to have someone come exterminate. The manager (or an asst mgr- not sure) told me she would have someone come to our room and put something out for them. We didn't see any more, but I have to say it did color my feelings for the resort a little. I looked around REALLY WELL before going to sleep everynight after that, LOL!

Dont worry about the pubic hair thing....maybe it just fell of the scrub brush from another room?

It probably just fell off the bed spread :teeth:

There's another thread about them being at OKW, so even DVC owners' who pay the big bucks can't get rid of them. IMO, I'd just call front desk, tell them to reclean the room and spray for the bugs while I"m at the parks.

 :rotfl2: :rolleyes1

See .........hmmmmm

I guess it's just a matter of ... I know roaches aren't going to not be anywhere in WDW. I know they can appear anywhere because of the climate, but it just bummed my sister out. To be honest, yes she is changing because of this and also because of the "hair" all over the bathroom.

I posted this just because I was bummed out that she had a not so pleasent first "experience" at POP, not to make the hotel look bad or seem like the only place where these things happen.

All along they wanted to stay at POFQ but were on a tight budget, now that I'm joining them in a few hours I can help split the price increase.

/M

but this was an actual roach, which I thought did indicate cleanliness problems (correct me if I'm wrong on that).

I don't know about Florida roaches, but I was told by a bug exterminator guy that roaches are not a sign of un-cleanliness and that roaches are attracted to water.

A little OT, but years ago, I worked at a brand spanking new restaurant. The place was immaculate (believe me, I cleaned it!) and we still got roaches.

That said, though, they still gross me out and I might freak just a little if I saw one in my hotel room. Mainly because I know they like to come out at night and I'd probably wouldn't get any sleep imagining them crawling on me in the middle of the night! (shivers)

They were at the Grand Floridian, too! Coming off the boat dock, walking by Narcoossee's, there was a family crossing the walk. I could tell they were a family, because they were wearing matching t-shirts, that's how big they were!

But you could tell they were the Palmetto bugs, Florida's state bird! Nothing to be worried about!

Seeing a roach first thing when you go into a Disney resort would not make for a good first Disney Day. :earseek:

Okay, let me put your mind at ease. For some stupid reason, after my run the other day, I rinsed out my running shorts, and, well as a guy, I forgot to hang them up, and tossed them on the floor, I really am pretty good about hanging them to dry. That night after I got home from work, I noticed my shorts on the floor, and when I picked them up, yep, la cockaroacha went scampering away, unfortunately for him, I was quicker, and soon he was headed to Davey Jones' locker, via the porcelain express, and this is in South Jersey. I lived in the Charleston, SC area for about a year, forget it, Palmetto bugs aplenty. But I do see your point, it wouldn't be a great start, however, in some cultures, the presence of a cockroach is a sign of good luck.

Pkdcoastrs ... Hope your vacation is going better, keep in mind that nothing is worth getting too upset in Disney.
Safetymom ... GREAT pics ... I can't wait to show my DH the different castles. Thanks
