:guilty: Oh man! I better not tell my dd or it will wreck one of her "special Disney moments." Next you'll be telling me I have to explain to her why the dragonflies and beetles are sometimes "stuck together." :earseek:

They are Siamese dragonflies or Siamese beetles. Don't ya know?

Perhaps it isn't the people who are distressed by the bugs who are missing the point!

If this is such an inherent problem in an area so dependent on tourism $$$$, then perhaps WDW [& Florida, in general] needs to be more proactive w/this problem. Why should tourists be expected to tolerate this situation, especially when paying such a premium for on-site resorts?

Here's a thought...

If they spray the grounds "every morning at sunrise" & only "the rooms often", perhaps the pests are running from the grounds into the rooms to avoid the bug spray.

I agree with the others who posted that no matter how many wonderful things are posted about Disney, any negative criticism about Disney seem to be frowned upon, and Disney defended. It is unfortunate, because it makes some people shy away from posting their negative experiences, which would help keep the info here more balanced.

There is a huge difference in negative criticism based on facts and unrealistic expectations based on lack of knowledge. As everyone has stated, we are not defending Disney on this issue as there is truly no reason to defend them. They do an excellent job of pest control. It is obvious only people who live here or visit often appreciate that.

Could they use some of that "pest" control on their on-line reservations system? :rotfl:

Hey, there's a reason that roaches have been around for just about a kazillion years, and will still be here long after humanity has gone the way of the dinosaurs.

The little suckers are impossible to eradicate. Impossible!

Sorry, I just don't think Disney can be blamed for this one. :confused3

I am sure they would love to be rid of some of the human pests that plague them. :flower:

I hope they aren't checking out of POP and into Port Orleans because of the roach, because we stayed at POR 8/06/05-8/13/05 and had a roach in our room. I know to expect those huge palmetto bugs (blech!!), but this was an actual roach, which I thought did indicate cleanliness problems (correct me if I'm wrong on that). We saw it on our way out to the Studios one morning and I called the hotel after we got to the park to let them know they needed to have someone come exterminate. The manager (or an asst mgr- not sure) told me she would have someone come to our room and put something out for them. We didn't see any more, but I have to say it did color my feelings for the resort a little. I looked around REALLY WELL before going to sleep everynight after that, LOL!

Umm..Palmetto Bugs ARE also known as the American Cockroach...same thing as your ordinary roach, except people down here couldn't stand to call them by their given name and gave them the fancy schmancy Palmetto Bug name :) They are just a part of Florida, not a nice part, but a crunchy part at least :rotfl: Everyone down here is on first name basis with their bug men..I am thinking of inviting ours to Thanksgiving!! :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Funny you say that. My bug man's name is Brian. And believe it or not I have taken him to football games. You can't underestimate how important a customer exterminator relationship is in Florida.

Yeah, my bug man is Randy-- I LOVE Randy!

On a different note, be glad you aren't in Hawaii on vacation!! What about those HUGE spiders that you HEAR walking?!?! Talk about FREAKING me out!! We visited friends there while on our honeymoon and thier stories made me a nervous wreck. I'm telling you-- and this is VERY true-- I would have had to get an early flight back to the mainland if I found one of THOSE in my hotel!

Roaches have somehow been downgraded after seeing them become dinner over and over on Fear Factor!! With all the gross mess on that show, roaches are a welcome treat. I bet those folks are HOPING for roaches!!

As for me, I'll stick to the MYW with dining.

Hey, let me add that Randy didn't charge me when he came last month-- I ran into him, told him my troubles and he exterminted the HECK out of my house for free. Go RANDY!! :cheer2: Here is a man who understands my feelings!!

I have an idea! Instead of sparying them with harmful poisions, maybe they need to spray them with a little pastel paint.... and call them Tinkerbugs.

Then if you get one in your room you could feel special that Tinkerbug visited you. Maybe people would want to smuggle them home in their luggage next to the towel animals. tfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

friendly frog...I love that Idea!!! maybe they could leave little trails of pixie dust! :goodvibes

Thank God I'm from Canada and I live in an igloo. :rotfl: No roaches here...except that time Uncle Joe found one in the iceberg. :rotfl:
Sorry I just had to jump in here with that. I'm trying to stay calm and laugh about Florida's roach problem. I hate roaches... no other bug, spider, snake or rodent puts the fear in me like a roach. But I don't care. I'm going to Disney. And I'm going to have a magical time no matter how many roaches I bump into. I have vowed they will not ruin my vacation. I am bigger than them and I'm going to the World no matter what. :goodvibes

Make way!!!!!!!!! I have front row seats on this one!!!! Who's bringing the popcorn tonight????

Say goodbye to this thread. Just a reminder there is to be no personal attacks on the DIS.
