I'm guessing you're either Navy, former Navy or related to somebody who is or was Navy, because the only people I've ever heard this phrase from have been Navy (my father is former Navy and my brother is currently Navy, less than one year from full retirement from submarine service).

It's always sad to see ships languishing before being scrapped. The Bremerton mothball fleet is profoundly sad to see. I've not seen any cruise ships in person before being sent for breaking, but I kept up as the original Pacific Princess was sent to the dismantling yard in Turkey.

I have a photo of DH skeet shooting on the old Westerdam. Also in the photo was the ships’s head of security who was there to ensure safety, amongst other things. DH was deeply saddened when skeet shooting was stopped permanently.

I was talking to a co-worker whose wife wanted to book a cruise. He knew I liked cruising so he wanted to find out from me what activities they had on board. He asked about skeet shooting and wanted to know if you hit golf balls off the ship. I almost wanted to laugh at first but quickly remembered that these things were popular some time ago. He also asked about jet skis and he didn't mean during a shore excursion. I can just imagine, a massive cruise ship renting out jet skis on sea days. THAT doesn't sound like a disaster waiting to happen.

I think Paul Gauguin does that. One of the luxury lines with really small ships that avoids open ocean.
