CAUTION! LONG READ AHEAD!

So I posted a thread a while back trying to see if anyone had worn TOMS to the park, and how they worked for them. Through all the mixed reviews I finally decided to bring my red ones and my pair of FILA running shoes so that I could switch half way through the day. I also bought Dr. Scholl's For Her Comfort Insoles to put in my shoes and athletic socks with arch support by Adidas. Also, I have very tender, flat feet.

Day 1 (4:00pm-8:00pm): I wore my TOMS as we walked around Downtown Disney. I could actually feel the insoles working with every step I took. The shoes didn't rub my feet the wrong way, and I was very comfortable. As we were walking back to the car, the rest of my family started noticing their feet were hurting just a little bit from standing longer than we're used to. I was perfectly fine though.

Day 2 (7:00am-2:00pm): Again I wore my TOMS to start out the day. We used our Magic Morning and ran all around Tomorrowland to get our favorites done. We practically power walked to Space Mountain, and if you've ever done that, you know that's a full on leg workout in and of itself. Then we ran over to Astro Blasters, and then walked to the other side of the park to do Haunted Mansion and Pirates. After all that running back and forth, my family needed to slow down and walk a little slower. I, however, was still jumping about ready to go to the next place. No foot pain what-so-ever. So we continued the day, going over to the Mark Twain and getting access to the wheel house, we shopped, and rode various other rides. We decided around 2:00 that we would go back to the hotel and take a short break. At this point, I could definitely feel my feet getting worn out a bit, but not as bad as everyone else.

Day 2 (4:00pm-9:30pm): For the second part of the day I decided to put on my FILA walking shoes with my Dr. Scholl's inserts. Right away I noticed that those shoes hit my feet in a completely different way. Walking around that night my feet hurt so badly. I just assumed that it was from the fast paced morning we had. I could feel the blisters start to form under my toes and on my pinky toe. It was pretty miserable for my feet that night.

Day 3 (7:00am-4:00 pm): In the morning my feet felt much better. So I decided to try starting the day in my walking shoes and switching to my TOMS at the end. We went to Goofy's Kitchen for breakfast, and then walked right into Disneyland and started our day. My feet felt pretty good for the most part, but I could still feel the blisters forming. We didn't go quite as fast this morning, we just sort of wandered throughout the park stopping at things on the way. Closer to lunch I could really feel my feet hurting. And by the time we finished our late lunch and went back to the hotel, I was miserable once again. I had huge blisters on the bottom of my toes, so we stopepd at Target and bought some moleskin pads and bandaids. Those are really amazing at getting the blisters to stop rubbing against the shoe.

Day 3 (6:00pm-10:00 pm): So part 2 of day 3 I put my TOMS and insoles back on. Almost immediately I could tell the difference. As we walked through the park I couldn't even feel the blisters forming and my feet felt so much better. It was so crazy how that shoe change made such a big difference. By the time the fireworks were over and we started heading out, my family felt awful. Their feet hurt really bad. And I still felt great, I probably could have done five more hours!

Day 4 (8:00am-12:00 pm):: For our last day, I decided to wear my TOMS and my moleskin pads for the blisters. Such a good decision! We went straight to Cars Land and got in line for RSR and walked through DCA a bit before heading back to Disneyland to put in a few more games for Astro Blasters. My feet felt so good, like I didn't even have blisters. It was amazing.

So in conclusion, I say that TOMS are definitely worth giving a shot for your shoes. With the combination of the shoes and the insoles I don't think I could have done better. If I had worn them the entire time, I would never have gotten blisters like I did. My walking shoes actually made it worse on me than sandals would have. Give TOMS a try, and see how you like them! Because for me, they couldn't have been any more comfy.

Thanks for the report back. It sounds like you have something that works for you. Did you wear socks with your TOMS? I noticed on our trip last summer lots of people wearing TOMS, so they must work for a lot of people. Another question...were your FILA's broken in? If they were, I wonder why they would give you blisters, especially if they are your walking shoes.

Sounds like you had a nice trip. It is so nice when people report back on the boards. Hope it wasn't too hot!

Thanks for the review. This looks like it's worth checking into.

Last time I went to DL, I used my very comfortable, broken-in running shoes and had blisters by the end of the second day. Unless your feet routinely put in the mileage and standing time that you do at DL, they will not hold up well.

I just got my new Skechers Go Walk shoes today. I plan on breaking them in until our trip, with my arch support orthotics, and am going to get the arch support socks.

I have horrible feet. Flat, and have had bunion surgery on one foot. The other foot is starting to get sore in my other shoes in the joint at the bottom of my baby to (a bunion on that foot - not the sugery foot).

The Skechers Go Walk shoes are super comfortable (so far). I may need to check in to the Toms though - just in case.

I'm sure I'll bring at least one pair of my TOMS with me. I love them :)

Thanks for reporting back! Your experience is a lot like mine. I love my TOMS and find them to be the most comfortable shoe for me in the parks. I do use an anti-chafing product on my feet, though, as extra insurance. It has been a long time since I have had any blisters doing that combo. When I wore my broken-in athletic shoes I would get blisters every visit! Now I pack my TOMS (I have 4 pairs!) and I also have these Crocs:

http://www.amazon.com/Crocs-Womens-Adrina-Flat-Black/dp/B003YBSEWI/ref=sr_1_4?s=shoes&ie=UTF8&qid=1351795710&sr=1-4&keywords=crocs+flat

Normally I wouldn't wear Crocs, but those are cute and very comfy. If I rotate between those, my feet are very happy!

I have horrible feet issues and wear sandals year round - yes I live in Colorado and wear them in the snow. But the ones I have now will never work for Disneyland, they hurt in every day situations and that is by no means an everyday situation. I have a high arch and when I walk my feet swell. The arch feels like it is burning it gets so painful when I wear shoes. I even swell past the size of the crocs and I wore those real loosely.

So, I just bought a pair of Toms. I will give those a shot, and take some flip flops I have worn there before just in case. Thanks for the review, that is just what I needed to hear.

LOL I would totally wear my Toms on my next trip....except the last time I wore my toms and did a lot of walking, my dbf made me wash my feet when we got back to the hotel, they smelled so bad!!! ::yes:: LOL probably TMI for all of you....but I think I'm stuck with either flip flops or something I can wear with socks!:rotfl2:

Smartwool peds (secret sleuth socks) really take care of the odor problem with Toms. The smartwool socks are moisture wicking and antibacterial. Also, there is an anti-odor spray for Toms on Amazon.com.

Oooh thanks for the advice! That spray probably works better then my febreze!:lmao:

Yay! This thread got me to buy my first pair of TOMS and some Smartwool peds. I'm planning ahead for my trip in April. Can't wait!!

Good socks are just as important as good shoes!! When you feet hurt....EVERYTHING hurts.

I never leave for a trip without a good pair of running shoes and Thorlo running socks.

Hubby was so not a fan of my $13 a pair of socks....until he wore a pair. Now he will not go to Disney without them! :-)

Good to hear! I gave yet to try Toms, so I will for sure try them next time. In my last trip, I wore the Reeboks with the balance balls inside. (Easy Tones, I think.) And I switched between those and Crocs ballet style flats and flip-flops. I do work retail, and wear the Reeboks most days, so I do have an edge on most people when it comes to standing and walking (I can average at work at minimum about 5 miles a day.)

OK - never heard of TOMS - looked them up - cute!

So, some of us here may need a TOMS 101.

What style do you wear? Socks - what kind? Do you buy them on-line? Any more pointers??

I just bought my first pair of blue canvas Tom's. I have been wearing them without socks, but bought a thin pair of socks to try with them.

I tried the socks this morning. They constricted my toes and made the shoes hurt, so I will go back to wearing them without socks. I find them to be amazingly comfortable. I did get blisters when I walked to the school for my son's parent teacher conference. A few cloth bandaids and I was peachy.

It has only been a week and I want MORE Tom's. My husband would shoot me if I bought more so I will stick with the one pair for now. I can't wait to try them out at Disneyland. They will be completely broken in before we leave in December.

Yeah, I don't think I could wear my TOMS with socks. I think you are supposed to wear them with bare feet. I use Body Glide on my feet when I wear TOMS, it dries to a powder and keeps my feet dry and stops blisters.

Another thing that may help with the Toms was something that I learned on the DIS when planning our WDW trip. Use spray antiperspirant on your feet. We wore Keens every day there and sprayed our feet before heading out. Not a single blister until the one evening that DD forgot to spray.

It sounds like that might work for the Toms also.
