We spent a day at Legoland during our recent trip and loved it :thumbsup2 We stayed at Windsor Hills and did five straight days in the Disney parks before visiting Legoland on the Sunday of Memorial Day weekend. I think we picked a great day to go because the crowds throughout the park were small (I think due to the water park being open which we did not visit). It was about a 45 minute drive to Legoland from Windsor Hills and we arrived around 20 minutes before the park opened and were able to get a close parking spot and did not need to pay for preferred parking. I think this park was really great for my kids who range in age from 4 to 11. After five days in the Disney parks, Legoland was a welcome change of pace because it was very walkable for them and the crowds are nowhere near the crowd levels at Disney (and the crowd levels at Disney ranged from levels 5-8 on the days we visited). Again I think the water park being open helped disperse the crowds a lot at Legoland. The theming is very whimsical and colorful and my kids loved all the various Lego structures, especially in Miniland. When the park opened we headed straight to the back of the park to do the Ford Driving School first and we were basically the first people there. We did the Lego City area first (the Ford driving school, Jr driving school, and boating school). We did the Lego Technic area second (Aquazone wave racers, Technicycle, and Lego Technic Coaster - which was our favorite and my DS4 just made the height requirement for this since he is 42 inches tall :thumbsup2). At this point there were still no lines and we pretty much walked on all those rides. After doing the Lego Technic area we went over to the Land of Adventure area and did Coastersaurus and Safari Trek which both had about a 15-20 minute wait - I think since this area is close to Miniland the crowds gravitated here before reaching the Lego City or Lego Technic area. After those two rides in the Land of Adventure we were ready for lunch so we walked through the Miniland area before stopping for lunch. Miniland is really, really a sight to see and is truly awe inspiring for Lego fans of all ages. DH and I were especially awestruck. We walked through the Lego Star Wars area first and this was really well done. The Miniland area is surrounded by beautiful landscaping and lake views as well and really kept our attention for awhile as you can really spend an hour or more just looking at all the creations. I can see why it is recommended to save this area for after getting your "must do" rides done first. After Miniland USA we ate lunch at the Funtown Pizza & Pasta buffet which we all thought was pretty good and the total cost for the six of us to eat was around $72 which we thought was nice for a "buffet" lunch considering this is close to what we paid on average for us to all have a counterservice lunch at the Disney parks. The buffet included drinks and there was also a salad bar in addition to the pizza and pasta. After lunch we stopped at the Lego Friends gift shop which was a must for my DD11 and DD6 and we met one of the Lego Friends characters :goodvibes. We then did the Grand Carousel which is two levels and we saw the Legends of Chima 4D movie in the Fun Town theatre. There is construction going on now for the World of Chima - an area at Legoland based on the Legends of Chima :). After Fun Town we went over to the Lego Kingdoms area to ride Merlin's Challenge and the Dragon coaster which was my kids' overall favorite because they rode it four times in a row - yes four times! There were NO lines! After this we visited the Duplo Village to have some downtime in the play areas (the Duplo Farm and Play Town). Lastly we went back to Fun Town to do the carousel again and were able to meet a couple characters - Max and then one of the main Chima characters (Laval). Our final stops were through a couple of gift shops - the Lego Factory pick a brick shop and the Big Shop. We were fortunate to have great weather that day - 85 degrees and no rain, and what is also nice about Legoland is that all the rides have shaded queues :thumbsup2 Unfortunately we didn't do everything and missed the Pirate ski show and walking through Cypress Gardens, but those will be on our list for next time. We definitely want to go back and felt we had a very productive, fun filled day without the pressure to rush around. I think this park is perfect for elementary school age kids and even my tweens really enjoyed their day here. Because of the height requirements on several of the rides, I think my DS4 was at the perfect age for a first visit to Legoland. The employees were also great and were helpful and cheerful. It seems like a lot of the operational issues I read about a year ago have been worked out or maybe it was just how things went on our day here. I am glad we included a day here on our vacation itinerary. At first I was concerned that we were taking time away from Disney by going here, but I am glad we did as it was a great experience for our family, especially for my kids' age range.

So glad to hear about your experience at Legoland. When we're at Disney in August, we're taking one day out and renting a car to go to Legoland. My DS11 is a total Lego nut--I mean we have a whole room in our house that is just Legos!!! We laugh that this is like going to the Holy Land for him! I know he's actually a bit old for some of the stuff, but this is the first chance we have to go. I also have a DS13 who's not as interested, but is being a good sport about it.

We were planning on trying to squeeze in some time in the water park too, especially for the older one. Do you think we'll be able to see most everything--and the water park--in one day. We plan on being there before opening and staying until close. We'll be skipping the gardens and Duplo and some of the smaller rides. I think Miniland is going to be the biggest hit! We've decided to eat on the run pretty much. The buffet sounds great, but I don't think we want to spend our time there. I've heard you can get a lunch and eat it while watching the water ski show. I think that will be our best option.

Is trying to do it all in one day totally unreasonable? Or do you think we'll get to see most of it in that time? We may actually split up and one parent go with the oldest to the water park, while the other parent and youngest do more of the actual Lego stuff (I know he'll happily forego water rides for more Lego time!).

Your 11 and 13 year olds will love it. I have 11 year old boy/girl twins and they had a blast and they especially enjoyed the coasters, Ford Driving school, and Miniland USA. We did not do the water park but I think it would be totally doable to do both in one day. We were pretty much done with our day around 3:30 p.m. and we got there before the park opened. We leisurely made our way out of the park during our last hour there and we could have definitely done the water park for a few hours if we planned it as part of our day.

Wonderful! I don't want DS11 to feel rushed at all, but it really only works for us to do one day there. I'm sure he could spend a week and be perfectly happy---but not so sure about the rest of us! If you were able to do all that by 3:30, I think we'll be fine fitting it all into one day. Can't wait!

When we were there the park was open until 6, and I think it stays open till 6 throughout the summer season which should definitely make doing both the park and waterpark in one day doable at a relaxed pace. DH and I agreed that if we were FL residents we would definitely get annual passes for our family. I think it's only $99 for FL residents which also includes the waterpark and parking!

Thanks so much for your review. We plan to go in August. My son (turning 13) is a total Lego freak still, and he is so excited. I didn't realize we'd get to see characters. Dd 10 would be really pleased to meet one of the "Friends". I'll be sure to bring a sharpie and some sort of autograph book.

The buffet sounds like a good choice, I like the idea of a break in the middle of the day, and being able to pick at what we want makes it a little more straightforward. Did you try the apple fries? Something else that looks neat, though hot food and an August visit may not be the best combo!

Very cool. It is great to hear of another fine entertainment option in the Orlando area. My kids are too big now but maybe I'll get there some day with a grandchild. :)

Did you do the minifigure trading at all? I've heard that the workers wear badges with a minifigure attached and you can trade them--much like the pins at Disney. My DS11 already has his duplicate figures set aside for this and we're not going until August.

I completely forgot to add that in my review :lmao: Yes, the apple fries were great. I got an order of those when DH took the kids to do their second round on the grand carousel. I love cinnamon sugar type treats so the apple fries were definitely a hit with me, they even give you a side cup of whipped cream to dip them in :goodvibes

We didn't do minifigure trading but I did see a couple other kids doing this. There is also a really cool minifigure gift shop if your kids like to collect those.

My family spent the whole day there today. It was practically empty. We rode everything, and many things twice. The only thing that irked me was the fact that I have an 11 month old, and he was only able to ride the carousel. So it was a lot different than disney in that regard.

Thanks so much for your review! We are going in a couple weeks with my kids ages 6, 9 & 10 and i was wondering if my DD10 would enjoy it. Sounds like they will all have a blast! So excited as we've done Disney & Universal so many times & it will be great to try something new. Also glad to hear that the lines are shaded as I had read on an older review that there was very little shade in the park. Sounds like they rectified that.

We're either going to go on a Thursday or Saturday. Anyone have any opinions on which day might be less crowded?

Have fun! I am not sure which day would be better crowd wise. We went on the Sunday of Memorial Day weekend and the crowds were low and we walked on several rides (rode the Dragon coaster four times in a row), definitely not what we expected for a holiday weekend! What's nice about Legoland is that I don't think the crowd levels will ever parallel the kind of crowds we are accustomed to at the Disney parks. Also, it seems like the waterpark helps to balance out the crowds at Legoland in the summer. One thing you may want to consider is if Legoland is popular with day camp groups during the weekdays in the summer as that may cause some lines to be a bit longer? You won't lose either way though, it's such a great little park!

Thanks so much for your report! We are suprising DS (9) w/a trip to Legoland for his birthday. I have been looking for more recent trip reports, but they seem very few and far between. We are going the end of July, so it's nice to hear that the ques are shaded. We did not get water park tickets either. Did everyone seem to go straight to the water parks in the morning? We are planning on going on a Tues in the middle of our Disney trip. Hoping we will be able to do all of the park in one day. I'm not really worried about Cypress Gardens. I may have to copy your touring plan, lol. Your report was very thorough, but if you can think of anymore tips pass them on. I was suprised to hear such low crowds and hope we experience the same. What was your longest wait? I'm nervous b/c there really isn't a lot about touring this park like there is for disney and other parks (what I find is usually outdated), My boys are going to be so excited, I can't wait!

Debi, I found this site and it has a lot of info. http://www.legolandphotos.com/board/thread.php?Thread=5555

There's a forum as well, not terribly active, but the guy who runs it seems to know just about everything there is to know!

You are going a couple of weeks before we do--make sure you post your TR! :goodvibes

I have been to that site. It does have good information, but most of the touring info is from when the park first opened. Like you said, it's not very active & not too much current info. It is still a helpful site & the guy does know a lot about the park. I will definitely make a trip report when I get back. My kids have been dying to go ever since they found out Legoland existed, lol. It's so hard to keep this secret!

We took our first trip to Legoland in April with two boys, aged 6 and 9.

For those who weren't aware of the history, Lego (or the company that runs theme park operations for Lego) purchased the defunct Cypress Gardens park out of bankruptcy and spruced it up and re-themed it to Legoland.

Overall, we had a pretty good time at the park. I'm not sure what the "sweet spot" is for ages, perhaps right around 7-8. As kids get older the rides will definitely lose interest for them as they are designed with younger children in mind.

I was quite bored until we hit Miniland. As an adult the experience of exploring Miniland makes the admission worthwhile. I started to obsessively photograph all of the areas before quickly realizing it was so vast and there are so many details it was near impossible. The Star Wars scenes were particularly great.

The day we were there the park was quite empty (being an off-peak time in general), but despite this they still tried to sell "Preferred Parking". In reality they could have just fit every car in the lot in the preferred section based on how empty it was. We decided to trek across an empty lot instead of paying $20.

One thing that struck me about Legoland was how HOT it was. I find this interesting as I never notice the heat in any Disney park. I don't know if Disney makes better use of shade trees or there is something different about their pavement that doesn't reflect the heat as much, but Legoland was oppressively hot.

If you are planning on visiting, definitely be on the look out for the "free child admission" coupons that are usually on the back of the small lego polybag kits. (The ones that sell for $4 or so near the registers of Target/Walmart). Like any other theme park, it is not a cheap visit. Getting free child admission definitely brings the price into line with the value.

We will likely visit again, but it won't be a yearly thing for us like Disney and Sea World are. There is a new land being built based on the new Chima theme. I'm not sure when that is slated to be finished, but we will probably wait till that area is open before visiting again.

We're planning to do a day at Legoland with our family of 6. We're trying to minimize costs so I was wondering if they allow outside food to be brought in or if they have lockers outside (or for that matter if it would be too far to walk back to our vehicle) to get lunch. I have to say, though, the price of the pizza/pasta buffet seems really reasonable. I have a DD14 and a DS12, though and they are often times full adult price for buffets.

Thanks for the information!:wave2:

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your trip report! We are taking a Disney cruise leaving the Saturday after Thanksgiving and flying into MCO on Thanksgiving due to cheaper flight prices. We didn't know what to do on Friday but we were leaning towards going to Legoland. I don't know anyone that's been so we weren't 100% sold. My twins are 7-years-old and love Legos and after reading your report I feel like visiting this park is the perfect way to spend the day. :thumbsup2
