My review of Legoland FL

Thanks for the info! We're going to spend a day there before heading to WDW and I was worried because it will be the Saturday after Thanksgiving; I'm hoping I have the same kind of luck with holiday weekend crowds that you did !

You're welcome :thumbsup2 We had an awesome day there! I just replied to your thread about a Legoland crowd level predictor.

Thank you for a great trip report! This sounds perfect for my family! My youngest has just hit 42 inches!

That's great! I think your children are at an ideal age for Legoland. We really wanted to go before my oldest two (11 year old twins) got beyond the ideal age for it. I should have posted some of our trip photos, but me and Photobucket don't get along :badpc:

We took our first trip to Legoland in April with two boys, aged 6 and 9.

For those who weren't aware of the history, Lego (or the company that runs theme park operations for Lego) purchased the defunct Cypress Gardens park out of bankruptcy and spruced it up and re-themed it to Legoland.

Overall, we had a pretty good time at the park. I'm not sure what the "sweet spot" is for ages, perhaps right around 7-8. As kids get older the rides will definitely lose interest for them as they are designed with younger children in mind.

I was quite bored until we hit Miniland. As an adult the experience of exploring Miniland makes the admission worthwhile. I started to obsessively photograph all of the areas before quickly realizing it was so vast and there are so many details it was near impossible. The Star Wars scenes were particularly great.

The day we were there the park was quite empty (being an off-peak time in general), but despite this they still tried to sell "Preferred Parking". In reality they could have just fit every car in the lot in the preferred section based on how empty it was. We decided to trek across an empty lot instead of paying $20.

One thing that struck me about Legoland was how HOT it was. I find this interesting as I never notice the heat in any Disney park. I don't know if Disney makes better use of shade trees or there is something different about their pavement that doesn't reflect the heat as much, but Legoland was oppressively hot.

If you are planning on visiting, definitely be on the look out for the "free child admission" coupons that are usually on the back of the small lego polybag kits. (The ones that sell for $4 or so near the registers of Target/Walmart). Like any other theme park, it is not a cheap visit. Getting free child admission definitely brings the price into line with the value.

We will likely visit again, but it won't be a yearly thing for us like Disney and Sea World are. There is a new land being built based on the new Chima theme. I'm not sure when that is slated to be finished, but we will probably wait till that area is open before visiting again.

Does anyone know if these coupons are still on the bags and if they are what the stipulations are? DH is active military and can get in for free, I'm wondering if it's only 1 free child per paying adult or how it works. Not sure if we could get DH in free and 3 kids with these coupons and just pay for me? Sounds too good to be true.

We went earlier this year and it was much cheaper for DH to buy tickets ahead of time at the MWR ticket office. On the Shades of Green website right now it says a 2 day ticket is 55 dollars weather it is adult or child. I believe DH got them even cheaper at the MWR. I thought it was a good deal compaired to there regular price even with the free child coupon.

Thanks for your report! We're headed there for the first time next month and are looking forward to it. We're used to doing parks we're familiar with so I'm enjoying reading people's reviews. My youngest of three kids is 42" and all love legos, so I'm thinking we're at the sweet spot for LEGOLAND. The 10 year old isn't into big coasters yet. He's tall enough but sticks to the kiddie coasters. I saw there was a 44" coaster at LEGOLAND. So, I'm hoping my petite 7 year old will want to do it - then her nearly 5ft tall, older brother might be convinced to give it a try. (That's usually how we get him on the bigger rides!)

*About tickets, if anyone is a homeschooler then look into their homeschool days. It's costing us just $8 per child and $25 per adult. It means we had to make a reservation and have to go on a Monday, but it's a huge savings.

They are typically buy 1 adult admission, get 1 child free. I don't know if they currently still offer these, my son hasn't picked up any of those small lego sets recently.

Sounds like it has gotten better since I was there. We went when it first opened and it was a nightmare. They didn't have anything together. My kids have no desire to go back.

The coasters are NOTHING big there kohlby. I can't help but warn anyone to stay away from Flying school though. That was the most horrible ride I have ever been on in my life. I thought my glasses were going to break because my head was just being smashed all over the bar during the whole ride. I was seriously afraid my 9yo was going to have a broken neck when we got off that ride. It was HORRIBLE. I didn't talk to anyone there that liked it. I also didn't see anyone coming back with smiles on their faces. On the other rides people would come back clapping and smilling...not on this ride. There may be some people somwhere that like it and if they did maybe it was because they were taller or in a different seat or something. I was so looking forward to just zooming around like I was flying. It is one of the rides you get your picture taken on. If someone paid me a thousand dollars I would still never go on the ride again. DS didn't break his neck of course but he was almost in tears and said his head hurt when he got off. Just be forewarned if you do choose to go on it.

Also, you have very little room on any of the rides. I am not extra big or anything and I am 5'6". DH is 5'3" and then our 9yo is super skinny. A lot of the rides I didn't have much leg room. Just don't expect a family of 4 to fit comfortably on most of those rides. If I remember right, most of the ride are 2 person per cart. We still loved it all but the flying school! The miniland was incredible. The 4D movies are cool.

We're a family of 5 so we're used to splitting up. Are there any rides where leg room is such an issue that an adult won't fit in it? I didn't see any maximum heights on the regular rides, but my husband is 6'5". We've run into an issue on occasion at other parks with kiddie coasters like Barnstormer, so then I go with the younger child or two and the oldest goes by himself.

Does anyone know if I can do the buy adult get a child free for 2 kids? We have 4 kids so ideally I could just buy 3 full price adult tickets and get three kids free, can we do that? I just wanna make sure we can get in like that. Thanks

Kohlby, the one ride that sticks out the most was the safari ride. I am not sure of the name but it is one where you get it a car and they show you all these animals like elephants and zebras ect. made out of legos. I fit, but I sat sideway. DS went in the front with DH. I felt squished and if DS would have been with me I am not sure how it would have been. I would have probably been bumping my knees. I think as adults it is easy to fit most rides alone. I am sure most people do 1 adult and 1 kid per seat. None of them were too bad. It is just not as comfortable as on Disney rides.

Forewarning for any adult males who are around 5'9" and taller. Avoid the "Scarab Drop" ride in the Egyptian area (not sure what it is called). They make an adult sit in the middle of the ride with up to two kids each on the left and right to balance things out. However, the middle seat has a horrible knob/protrusion/something sticking out of the middle front.

You will get hurt in unpleasant ways. You may walk away with a higher voice afterwards :rotfl2:

So they might put our family of 5 on one row if we're slender and make hubby sit in the middle? I'm not a child, but I'm only 100lbs and my 10 year old son is about 15lbs lighter than me. Since hubby is 6'5", he's about 190 lbs so him in the middle would balance it better. (The other two kids are 40 and 47 lbs). Maybe hubby will have to skip that ride if they're going to make him go in the middle. Otherwise, I'll go with the two littles and hubby can go with the eldest and avoid the middle that way.
