My Parents

I know that there are other areas that are on vacation, but I think it is funny that my parents were blaming Canadians for their problems the other day. They thought it was some conspiracy against them, as though Canada decided to release its school children just in time confuse my mother as she tried to navigate around Disney.

I love my parents to death, but I hope that I never become one of those people who let technology - and sometimes common sense - pass them by. Using Fast Pass is not difficult, and neither is making ADR's. On top of that, if you go to Disney, and if short lines are important to you, then you have to be willing to either plan your trip at a REALLY slow time of the year or be smart about when you go to the park. They can't expect to arrive at noon and not see crowds.

The one thing I do agree with them about, though, is that Disney could definitely use to add a few more restaurants. I think they actually lose a lot of money by not having more restaurants. There have been times when I was planning on going to counter service but then decided that I would prefer to sit down, yet when I was told that there was no room for us, I just went back to the nearest counter service. They would have made more had they been able to accommodate me at the restaurant. I realize that the main issue is probably handling the swings from busy time periods to slow time periods. However, I really don't think there are many slow periods anymore. On top of that, any restaurant has to deal with that. Oh well, enough of that rant, lol.

hehe you know I am starting to get offended with this 'blame Canada' stuff.. :D

Update: I got a text (somehow she can use that technology but not FastPass) from my mother today. It read, "At Fort Wilderness. No one but us on the boat ride over. Canada is gone!"

Apparently "Canada" decided to go home today, according to my mother.

The next text said: "Sitting at Fort Wilderness beach with 10 ducks surrounding me."

My father later called and notified me that it was touch and go there for a while, as it appeared as though the ducks weren't going to let her leave. Luckily, she plowed through and made it out safely.

After not being able to get a seat at Trails End on their first day, and after paying $75 for dinner the next night, they decided to boycott Disney for dinner and have been driving the motor home out of the campground at night to eat. They reported back that they ate for $25 total at Uno's this evening. Judging by the tone of my dad's voice, that might have been the highlight of his trip.

Next up....Shopping at the Contemporary tomorrow. Let the good times roll!!!!!!

Much of Arkansas is on Spring Break this coming week as well..... I am leaving Sunday myself to go down to WDW and am expecting huge crowds. I am going more to just chill, though, and not do alot of park visiting. I just hope I can get in a few good meals - it's just me going this time, so I didn't make any ADR's. My experience is that usually, if it's just me, they can find me somewhere to sit fairly quickly.

Well, they are on their way home. I had made one dining reservation for them for every day of their trip and they made it to a grand total of ONE of them. The rest didn't fit into their plans. For example, yesterday, they missed the breakfast reservation I made at 9:30 because my dad was still sleeping, lol. Well, at least they relaxed....when they weren't getting hounded by all those pesky Canadians :rotfl2:

I so enjoyed reading this thread. I get picked on all the time for my "over-planning" but if I didn't do it, my family would never get to see anything! I am already totally ready for my Oct trip...just need to make those ADRs at the 90 day window.

Glad to hear that your parents are on their way home. I found your reports to be hilarious as a Canadian - LOL! I guess your parents won't be visiting my beautiful country anytime soon?

half the south was there too. She didn't here us with our southern accents...

got back on Saturday. It was crowded.

TTC is being closed, so is Space mountain for rehab.

at Epcot one of the busiest restuarant was closed - Electric Umbrella - the sign say to use the Food court at the land (Sunshine Seasons) or Liberty Inn in america (long, long way)

this to my knowledge was not announced before hand - so bad planning on Disney end. (restuarant closed)

so between Soarin' and people trying to eat at Sunshine Seasons - the Land was one of the most busiest places.

if your parents pull this on you again - just for lunch (and most breakfasts) just send them to the hotels. they are pretty empty at lunch.

You mean TTA (Tomorrowland Transit Authority), right? I can't imagine them closing the TTC.
