My Magical Journey to Running the Half Marathon TR Link! p.107

:)thanks for the encouragement.I'm part freaked out and part excited about starting-sort of feel a bit "now or never" mentality!
You should be proud of yourself managing it all while your hubby's away-it cant be easy. I dont know how you do it and teach your kids at home too!!
Well done you:banana:

Many of us who are doing or have done the program feel that way. You're excited and scared at the same time. I still feel that way every time I get on the treadmill to run.

Thanks - Doesn't mean I do it all well! ;)

 Hang in there! Hopefully things look better tomorrow. As far as running goes it is just all about putting one foot in front of the other. If you keep on doing that long enough eventually you get there:)

Thanks Cynthia  I'm feeling better at the moment. Getting outside yesterday and soaking up the sun for a few minutes while I inflated one of Chuck's tires on his car (I have to do this about once a week and then I back it in and out of its parking space) also helped. I hate to admit it, but even doing some housework today has helped. :rolleyes1

I do agree with what you're saying about following the program. They have you do a 20 minute run, but then week 6 you back to intervals for a bit. I think the program in Running for Mortals would probably have been better for me, but I want to finish this one out just to say I did.

I find it overwhelming to do the research online. There is just so much out there. I like having a book that I can glance at as needed.

Amazing what a little sun can do, isn't it? I believe you can do a 20 minute run. Now you just need to!

Think about it, 2 8 minute runs is 16 minutes....what's another 4? AND....you don't have to do the slow down speed up thing which can make it go by faster....

This is why I tell myself the new Sunday yoga is an hour class....even though she runs over by a good half hour. I think I'd psych myself out if I thought about it as an hour and a half class!

Or you pass out! :rolleyes1

Thanks Jenny :)

I've tried telling myself that I'm almost running 20 minutes anyway. But, having a 5 minute break to catch my breath makes all the difference. My plan is to just run as long as I can. I won't have the time showing on my treadmill and I've made my own playlist of songs to listen to. I'll know which song means I've finished the 20 minutes. If I can't do it, then I'll try again on my next run day.

When I was living in Australia a friend of mine dragged me to a gym for classes. Once I did a yoga class at night. The room was kept kind of dark and it was so relaxing. It was hard work, but the atmosphere just felt so soothing.

That sounds like a good plan!

It is soothing...but not at first. Relaxing is hard and does not come naturally to me. And then of course there are certain ways that my body just does NOT bend.

:rotfl:

but I do like the dark room, calm music and soothing voice of the instructor....

Chuck said he asked around and it shouldn't be a problem to get leave time for the trip. :cool1: The Ike is supposed to be in dry docks for some work when they get back from deployment so I'm hoping there is no chance they'll be going out on a short cruise around the time of our trip. Fingers crossed!

Fingers and toes!! :shamrock: :shamrock: :shamrock:

The only guidebook I ever buy anymore is PassPorter. But even that one gets outdated quickly. I think I get most of my info now from the DIS and AllEars.Net.

I think some of the best tidbits are found on trip reports! :thumbsup2

Crap, I missed poo talk! That stinks.

I couldn't even run 2 minutes right now! I mean it, I can't wait to get my thang started! Weatherunderground says it will be 15 C (that's like 50 something in F) and I"m going OUT!! You've do so well up to now, I know you can do it!! :thumbsup2 Like Cynthia says, focus on the exercise, not the numbers.

Thanks for the book recommendations, mousescrapper! I have them all but the MouseJunkies one; I think I'll pick it up for my plane rides! :thumbsup2

Yoga on the wii just doesn't have the same effect. ;)

I ended up ordering the new Unofficial Guide to have as my main reference. Like I mentioned in another response, I just like having a book in front of me as I make my plans. I need to know which restaurants have closed, new ones, etc. But, I agree that TRs give some of the best info. :thumbsup2

:yay:Carissa you can definitely run for 20minutes girl. Go for it:yay:

I'm glad you have so much faith in me. :rotfl:

Does that mean you're going OUT to run or just get out?

I almost ordered that one too.

WTG with the workouts!!

There are good days and bad days of exercise.. if you have a bad day the next day could be great! I think sleep has a lot to do with stamina and feeling 'good' after a workout. You'll be fine!!! Congrats!!!

Ummm I gotta goto the gym now. ::yes::

Thanks Tim :goodvibes That is one thing I have learned when it comes to running. One day I might have a great workout and it seems "easy" and then the very next I could struggle. It's all about getting back on the horse and keeping at it. I'm good about sleep. I get at least 7 - 8 hours every night. :thumbsup2

Have fun at the gym! ;)

Good morning! I believe you can do it Carissa:cheer2::cheer2: I get a lot of info from these boards and trip reports. In answer to your question on if I am a runner? The answer is no:rotfl2: I once walked in a 5K, but that is it. I too have alot of training ahead of me:rotfl: As soon as they get the website for the half marathon up and running again I plan to register my husband and I. Got the sitter for my kids lined up for that weekend:thumbsup2 Well have a Disney Day:banana:

Well, that's even cooler then! :goodvibes I'm tempted to sign my husband up for the half too. If he can't make it, then it's just $135 wasted. I know that's a lot of money, but not a huge deal if he can't go. It would be so awesome to have him do the race with me.

You and your husband are the same age as me and my hubby. And our kids are almost the same ages too. :thumbsup2

I'm a big fan of the Passporters too! I just got the 2010 Unofficial Guide because I needed a new book for this trip :rolleyes1 & it has some good off-property info in it.
I'm also planning to get the Mouejunkies book Julie mentioned. :thumbsup2

I've been enjoying "The World According to Jack" a blog by Jack Spence - you can find it on allears.

Glad to hear Chuck thinks he can get the time off - you will really deserve this trip by January!!

Thanks Amy - I'll check out that blog. :thumbsup2

So, I decided to break the news to the boys tonight that a trip to WDW was in the works, but that it would be just Chuck and I going. I knew someone would catch on pretty quickly that I was planning another trip and I didn't want them to get their hopes up.

Surprisingly, it went much better than I thought it would. The only one who even said anything was Sully. But, he got over it pretty quickly when I explained everything to him. I told them that Chuck and I need some time alone, just the two of us. I also said that I wouldn't have picked WDW to take our romantic getaway, but because I had decided to run the half-marathon, we figured it was a good time to plan it.

Knowing that their grandparents will be staying with them and telling them they could make a wish list of items they'd like us to get for them while we're away seemed to take the sting out of the news. ;)

nice new banner!

It feels good to tell them doesn't it? I'm thrilled that they took it so well, kids will surprise you at times in the best possible ways.

It is so important for them to see that you value couple time and it looks like they "get" it.

:thumbsup2
