My Magical Journey to Running the Half Marathon TR Link! p.107

Since the theme here lately has been poo, I had to post this picture from today. I took the boys to the Virginia Living Museum in Newport News. We were looking through the gift shop before we headed out and look what I found:

I'm all for recycling and going green, but poo paper?? :confused3

I give that a big thumbs up!:thumbsup2

Well since the topic of poo seems to be here to stay for a while... check this out:

:rotfl:

Ok, haven't been out here in awhile and looked what I stepped in.:rotfl2:

I think it's time to get this thing back on track. :dance3:

I have a new challenge for this trip. Not only am I going to run the half marathon, but I am also going to do the remaining three rides that I've been too chicken to try. :scared1: What are those three you ask??

1) Expedition Everest (we've already discussed this one)
2) Mission: Space (green side)
3) Tower of Terror

Chuck said he asked around and it shouldn't be a problem to get leave time for the trip. :cool1: The Ike is supposed to be in dry docks for some work when they get back from deployment so I'm hoping there is no chance they'll be going out on a short cruise around the time of our trip. Fingers crossed!

Now I need some help. I think I've mentioned that I feel very out of the Disney loop these days. I haven't had a trip to plan for in a year and things change so much. I haven't really been reading any threads except for the trip report boards and the W.I.S.H. board. So...

Which guide book would you recommend for someone who has been to WDW three times and knows all of the basics, but is mainly looking for updates on new things and changes that have been made? :confused3 I have lots of old giudebooks, but nothing current. Any new ones come out that I don't know about?

~ W5D2.1 ~

I took yesterday off instead of today. Just felt the need for some down time on Saturday. The boys and I went to the Viriginia Living Museum and had a good time. So, today I needed to get on the treadmill and attempt day 2 again.

I was able to complete both 8 minute run intervals. But, it didn't go very well. By the end of the first 8 minutes, I was breathing hard and my legs were tired. I just kept thinking, "How am I going to be able to run for 20 minutes next time???" It's such a huge jump from 8 to 20.

The 2nd interval was even worse. I started to get panicky because I couldn't get a deep enough breath. I was worrying that I'd pass out from lack of oxygen. I never actually felt lightheaded or dizzy, but you know how scary it is when you can't get your breathing under control. Thankfully the run was almost over by that point.

After the 2nd run, I started to get teary. It wasn't a "I'm so proud of myself" cry. It was probably more of a stress release. That's been happening a lot lately. I'm just feeling very down for some reason. It hit me the other day that's it's probably S.A.D. kicking in as it always seems to do in February/March. I start to feel depressed, which is very unlike me, and then a lightbulb goes off and I realize what time of the year it is. I'm thankful I'm aware of it. So anxious for spring to arrive. I miss my time at the beach. I'm also missing my husband a lot today. 58 days have passed so far since he left. But, if you don't count the two short months he was home in November/December, it's been since last June since we had him home with us for any real amount of time.

I don't know why I'm so nervous about trying to run for 20 minutes straight. If I can't do it, then I just go as long as I'm able, walk for a bit, run some more and just keep trying until I can do it.

Time to end this therapy session. :rotfl: Thanks for listening. :grouphug:

My totals for today:

Speed: 3.5 for warm up, 4.0 for jogs/3.3 for brisk walks, 3.5 cool down
Duration: 32 minutes
Distance: 2 miles

poo paper....:rotfl: who started this conversation?

Ok back to seriousness now....but you will love my next post on my PTR...."mouse droppings" ;)

Guidebooks....

Ok I know what you mean about what do I need to read and how much do I want to spend...

Now I am planning my 3rd trip in 3 yrs...whew :faint:

I'm not sure what is the "NEW" hit guide...but I like to stick w/ the classics and a few fun books.

My current reads for this trip are (were)

The Hidden Magic of Walt Disney World by Susan Veness

not really a guide book but more of a fun look at the small things, hidden magic around the parks...why they designed things the way the did kind of read....quite fun!

Mousejunkies! Tips, Tales, and Tricks for a Disney World Fix.... by Bill Burke

this book is great for a seasoned vet of WDW who can get the jokes and crazies of a us Disney junkies...

I am not done reading it and probably will read it again for some good laughs...I have noted a few good tips and reminders that I had not thought of before...

Unofficial Guide to WDW 2010 by ?

sorry can't remeber authours/editors here on this one...but I know you know what I mean...now I checked out the latest copy from my local library and gave away some of my new found info and tips in a recent post on my PTR...you can also purchase w/ a discount code through Mousesavers

I like this book as it gives you the MEAT on WDW not just the bun like some other books...you do not have to read it cover to cover IMHO and most of the info stays the same from yr to yr I have read '08 and '09 as well...

for a quick flip through to the sections you need to read this is my vote...

I also think I can most of my info from people like you the DISERS...:disrocks:

the forums are my most valuable tool to knowing what is new!

happy planning and reading...

OH what about BLOGS...almost forgot them...great and FREE...

I like:

the Disneyfood blog
everythingwaltdisneyworld blog
take the monorail
disneyparks blog

there are many more!

Sorry to hear you're feeling blue carissa. Hopefully the sun will come out soon! Well done on sticking with the run. I'm starting to sweat it just because it's nearly tuesday (my day to start the c25k). EEK

Going from 8 to 20 really does seem like a huge jump, I can see where that might make anyone panic. While I think timed training like this can be really good, it can also be stressful if you focus more on the numbers than just the exercise if you know what I mean. I'm not sure I could do it the way they outline it for that reason.

I know for me, if I just go and do it and don't think about the time but just my activity at that moment, I'm often far more successful.

You have so much on your plate, homeschooling :worship:, single parenting while Chuck is deployed :worship:, and your training :worship::worship:. It's ok to feel down and wonderful that you can recognize it.

As far as guidebooks go....I'm just not a guidebook person. For me they always seem outdated before I get them so I just research everything online. I am sure I am missing lots of things as a result though!

Santa did bring Evan the Hidden Mickey book though and we are excited to use it heavily on our trip. Not exactly what you are looking for though :rotfl:

I'm so glad Chuck thinks it won't be a problem to get the time away from work. :)

I raised three kids alone. It got rough sometimes. It was 'me and three' - since they were 7, 4, and 1. Feel free to cry around here when you need to so that you can go back and be strong for the boys.

This whole country is looking forward to spring!!! :dance3:

As for your rides, I've ridden Everest once and never really have to again, Mission:Space is out for a claustrophobic - green side, orange side, or otherwise , and I love Tower of Terror! :yay: Have fun with your planning!

Carissa - you are doing so well!!! Not only are you continuing to move and progress with your running program, but you are doing it in the midst of your husband's deployment. I am a shameful sorry excuse next to you girl!:rotfl:

Keep at it, and keep your chin up. Feel proud - you have earned it!:goodvibes

And what a great trip you have to look forward to! Trying EE and TOT for the 1st time on the same trip...let's just say this will be a memorable one! Those of some of the best attractions WDW can throw at ya!:)

I actually tried MS for the 1st time myself last year. I had avoided it up until then as I always heard it was bad for people prone to motion sickness, and I can get nauseous simply turning around in the front passenger seat to check on my kids. Anyway, DD and I tried the green side and we loved it! And you know what? It wasn't intense enough for me. So this trip I will be trying Orange. I may live to regret that, but you only live once, right!;)

I blame it on Jordan. ;)

Thanks for the great suggestions, Julie! It's like you did a guest post on my PTR. :goodvibes I'll check all of those out. :thumbsup2

You can do it. :thumbsup2 Just don't be like I am. Do what you can and look at that as an accomplishment, no matter if you finish all of the runs or not.

Thanks Cynthia  I'm feeling better at the moment. Getting outside yesterday and soaking up the sun for a few minutes while I inflated one of Chuck's tires on his car (I have to do this about once a week and then I back it in and out of its parking space) also helped. I hate to admit it, but even doing some housework today has helped. :rolleyes1

I do agree with what you're saying about following the program. They have you do a 20 minute run, but then week 6 you back to intervals for a bit. I think the program in Running for Mortals would probably have been better for me, but I want to finish this one out just to say I did.

As far as guidebooks go....I'm just not a guidebook person. For me they always seem outdated before I get them so I just research everything online. I am sure I am missing lots of things as a result though!

I find it overwhelming to do the research online. There is just so much out there. I like having a book that I can glance at as needed.

I'm so glad Chuck thinks it won't be a problem to get the time away from work. :)

This has been a crazy winter, hasn't it? Bring on the sunshine and warm temperatures! :cool1: I greatly admire you raising three kids alone. It couldn't have been easy.

That's why I've always avoided Mission: Space - worried about feeling sick. It's not so much that I worry about during the ride itself, but I'd hate to spend a day at WDW feeling that way. I used to be a thrill seeker, but I had a bad experience with some rides when I was about 18/19 and it left me feeling so sick. So, now I tend to be more cautious. ToT scares me just because I don't like that feeling in my stomach during drops.

:)thanks for the encouragement.I'm part freaked out and part excited about starting-sort of feel a bit "now or never" mentality!
You should be proud of yourself managing it all while your hubby's away-it cant be easy. I dont know how you do it and teach your kids at home too!!
Well done you:banana:
