My Magical Journey to Running the Half Marathon TR Link! p.107

I'm glad you were able to break the news to them and that it went over well. I have a feeling I wouldn't be able to get away with that as easily with my kids. We've had parents-only trips, but never to WDW.

That's great your boys took the news so good. I bet they will have have fun with the wish list:thumbsup2

I'm sure they'll be a mile long! :rotfl:

nice new banner!

It feels good to tell them doesn't it? I'm thrilled that they took it so well, kids will surprise you at times in the best possible ways.

It is so important for them to see that you value couple time and it looks like they "get" it.

:thumbsup2

They also know that we're hoping to do another trip when Chuck retires in 3 years (or a cruise) so that helps. :goodvibes

Great news! :thumbsup2 Sounds like it went as well as it could have!

I'm very happy. :)

I'm glad you were able to break the news to them and that it went over well. I have a feeling I wouldn't be able to get away with that as easily with my kids. We've had parents-only trips, but never to WDW.

I definitely would not have picked WDW for our parents-only trip, but it started with me deciding to do the half-marathon and then thinking it would be nice for Chuck to come along. There is a big part of me that doesn't want to do WDW without the boys. I keep thinking, "Well, maybe we should just make it a trip for the entire family." But, I know how much Chuck and I need this and I know how we always put our needs on the back burner. Our last WDW trip was supposed to be a 10 year anniversary trip (not to Disney) for Chuck and I. I'm sure we'll have a blast while we're there, but it is hard for me to plan a trip without the boys.

So, I decided to break the news to the boys tonight that a trip to WDW was in the works, but that it would be just Chuck and I going. I knew someone would catch on pretty quickly that I was planning another trip and I didn't want them to get their hopes up.

Surprisingly, it went much better than I thought it would. The only one who even said anything was Sully. But, he got over it pretty quickly when I explained everything to him. I told them that Chuck and I need some time alone, just the two of us. I also said that I wouldn't have picked WDW to take our romantic getaway, but because I had decided to run the half-marathon, we figured it was a good time to plan it.

Knowing that their grandparents will be staying with them and telling them they could make a wish list of items they'd like us to get for them while we're away seemed to take the sting out of the news. ;)

Gifts are always a good way to ease the pain:thumbsup2

Hopefully the lists aren't too too long....;)

So glad they weren't devastated and took it all in stride. I think the gifties will help help them to get over any resentment they may have. :goodvibes

:thumbp2S sounds like your boys took the news really well. Funny how that always makes mums feel more guilty! Bet they're thinking about their lists already-I know mine would be:goodvibes

All caught up Carissa. Sorry to hear you were feeling blue...I think we've all been there. I hope you're feeling better. :goodvibes

Your solo trip plans look great, but here's to hoping Chuck is able to join you. It looks like things are looking up as far as that goes so :woohoo:!

I'm glad the boys took the news so well. We had to have the same conversation with our boys this week. YES....Jeff and I have a vacation planned! (check out the new ticker!) We are going to go on a 4 night cruise out of Orlando to the Bahamas. I signed us up for the GAD promotion so that we can visit my "Happy Place" on the Saturday we are in Orlando. It's only one day, but I can't imagine being in Orlando and not visiting the Mouse. I'm so excited! We leave May 3 and we'll head home on the 9th.

Sorry to hijack a little..just wanted to let you know the news!

Keep up the great work with the running....your perseverance will pay off! ;)

They can be as long as they like. But, we'll only buy two things for each depending on what they are. :thumbsup2

I think so too. ;)

Sully was listing things off last night while we were watching the planning DVD. :rotfl:

Hey Missy! You're not hijacking! That is wonderful! I saw something mentioned on Amy's PTR I think it was. I want you to do a PTR! :rolleyes1 You're including one day at Disney so why not, eh? ;) I miss having a place to go chat with you.

How did it go with your boys? Do they know you're stopping at WDW for a day?

Are y'all ready for a party???? Why a party, you ask??

Cause I just ran for TWENTY freakin' MINUTES STRAIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

:dancer: :dancer: :dancer: :dancer: :dancer:

And if that wasn't reason enough to celebrate, I also lost another two pounds bringing the grand total to TEN so far. :cool1:  :woohoo: :yay:

The run wasn't easy, but looking back, it wasn't as tough as I thought it would be. I realized my breathing was fine until I started thinking about it. And that's when I would start to panic and get out of rhythm. If I distracted my brain to think about something else, my breathing took care of itself.

Looking ahead to week six of the program, I have two days of intervals again, which I'm actually happy about. That is part of what got me through today. I didn't not want to have to repeat day three. :rolleyes1 And then day three of week six I do a 25 minute run. Doesn't seem quite so impossible now. :thumbsup2

Thank you to everyone for your encouragement the past couple of days. Knowing you guys thought I could do it kept me going today. :grouphug:

“There is nothing impossible to him who will try."

My totals for today:

Speed: 3.5 for warm up, 4.0 for jogs/3.3 - 3.5 cool down
Duration: 30 minutes
Distance: 1.9 miles

Hey, I'm sorry you are feeling down.... Hang in there, spring will be here soon. :sunny:

That's great Chuck will probably get the time off! You guys will have a blast! I see you're thinking of him doing the half too....that would be SO cool I think. I say go for it!!

I don't use guidebooks anymore, the info I need for my trips now is all online. But I understand wanting something in hand. I used to buy the Unofficial Guide and loved that one. I think they release the next year's copy in fall. So, the 2011 edition will come out this fall.

I'm glad the boys took the news easily for you! I bet they're having fun making their wish lists. :)

I'm glad your boys took the news well!
I understand the feeling of wanting to take the kids even though you realy need some alone time. I've found that WDW without kids is very different , in a good way.
I love exploring WS and I can't realy do it with the kids because they get bored.

I somehow missed your party post when I posted!

Already said it on the Triple D thread, but CONGRATS on the 20 minutes!!! I remember how great it felt to accomplish that. I know you are SO happy!

And I meant to say in my previous post that you will get to a point where you learn to not focus on the breathing and it isn't as hard. I'm glad you figured that out today! Distraction can be key.

Great job! :thumbsup2

:banana:CONGRATS WELL DONE:banana:
:yay:I'm starting tonight thanks to you-If you never hear from me again you'll know I fell off the treadmill and kicked the bucket:rotfl:

:cheer2::cheer2::cheer2: Great job Carissa! Taking it just one day at a time really does work! Before you know it 20 minutes will seem like an easy workout:goodvibes

Awesome Carissa! What an accomplishment! :cool1::cool1:

And ten pounds? YEEEE-HAAA!!!! :dance3:

I've considered doing a PTR, but it seems a little silly for a one day stop at WDW. I miss having a place to talk about my plans though...it doesn't seem like a vacation unless I can hash over every detail of the planning with my DISfriends!

THAT IS SO FREAKIN' AWESOME!!

You are making some serious progress, and it's just majorly inspiring!!

Congrats!!!:cool1:

Thanks. I'm feeling much better now. :goodvibes I have to ask Chuck again if he'd be up to running the half. I think he's worried about being able to train for it. But, he's been riding a bike on the ship and just started running on the treadmill again.

I checked last night and my most recent copy of UG is from 2007. My Passporter is 2005. :scared1: And then I have a 2008 The Complete Guide to Disney or something like that.

I'm glad your boys took the news well!

I definitely think it will feel wonderful to be able to really relax and enjoy the parks without worrying about the boys getting tired or getting lost. :thumbsup2

Good luck and I can't wait to hear how it goes!! :cool1:

Congrats Car! What an amazing feeling that must be! :woohoo:

It is a pretty good feeling. It was one of those huge goals that was looming ahead of me from the beginning. During week 1 it seemed completely impossible.

:cheer2::cheer2::cheer2: Great job Carissa! Taking it just one day at a time really does work! Before you know it 20 minutes will seem like an easy workout:goodvibes

I feel like today gets me over that hump. :thumbsup2 It felt like a major obstacle to tackle.
