My Magical Journey to Running the Half Marathon TR Link! p.107

:confused3 I think you have me confused with someone else. I'm planning on doing the half-marathon in January. I think the wine and dine is in October?

Oh, so sorry! For some reason, I thought you were doing both?? :confused3 I need to go back and read the first page again to get it straight in my mind. Wanna think about it? I know someone else that might be thinking about it. :rolleyes1

Carissa, I completely understand your feelings of leaving kids with strangers. I also am one to keep to myself, but you wouldn't believe that with all the people I have met at WDW from the Dis.

While Jonas was deployed the base started having monthly functions for spouses, and Jacob and I didn't attend that many, but did attend a few. The bowling one was a lot of fun. I was just fortunate enough that both times Jonas deployed I had family around.

I wish I had a treadmill, always wanted one.

One of the Segway tours sounds like a blast! So want to do that.

Maybe you were confused with me talking about doing a 10K here in Virginia Beach in October? I definitely won't be ready for a half-marathon by October, even if I could afford the trip. I'd love to go during the F & W Festival someday though! So, you're thinking about doing the half then? :thumbsup2

They do have activities, but most of them are over in Norfolk and I don't feel like heading over there. Traffic around that base is kind of crazy. We stay busy enough on our own. :goodvibes They also have meetings once a month and they offer free child care during the meetings, but I haven't gone to one yet.

I wish I had a treadmill, always wanted one.

The treadmill I bought is one of the least expensive ones out there (that is still of decent quality).

Fuel T94

I think the price has gone up a bit because I only paid between $500 - $599. That's pretty inexpensive for a decent treadmill. It really was a necessity for me with us homeschooling (and not having time alone) and Chuck being gone so much. I don't regret buying it at all.

.

Definitely could be... I do remember an October something. Anywho... about the 1/2.... I wouldn't want to say anything yeeeeeeeeeeeeet. ;):confused3:laughing::rolleyes1

I keep forgetting to post this great quote I found recently. I find it very motivating.

You have to set goals that are almost out of reach. If you set a goal that is attainable without much work or thought, you are stuck with something below your true talent and potential.

~ Steve Garvey

I've started having an energy smoothie in the mornings instead of always having my bowl of oatmeal. Kind of nice to mix things up a bit. I thought I'd share the recipe with you all.

~ Energy Smoothie ~

1/2 c. uncooked oats (make sure you use old fashioned oats and not instant)
1 c. ice
1 c. milk (fat free or soy)
1 - 2 Tbsp. flaxseed
1 scoop protein powder (I used Slim Fast's high protein creamy chocolate)
Fruit

Put all items in the blender and mix.

There are all sorts of different things you can add to your smoothie. Yesterday I used frozen strawberries. Today I added a banana. I think I might try peanut butter another day (love peanut butter and chocolate together). You could add a little bit of coffee to make a mocha smoothie. :thumbsup2

I find this smoothie to be very filling and gives me plenty of energy to do my runs. Oats are so good for you and adding the protein powder gives it a great taste and an extra boost. The flaxseed is also something we should be getting into our bodies every day.

~ W3D1 ~

I started week 3 today and I am happy to say it went quite well! The three minute runs seem to last forever and I did have a hard time finishing the 2nd one, but I did it. The good thing is the 90 second runs don't seem quite so long anymore. :rolleyes1

The podcast for week 3 is less than 30 minutes (something to do with the way the intervals work out) so I just continued to walk until my treadmill showed 30 minutes.

My legs finally feel better today from my day of squat overload and it's just my upperbody and upper abs that are sore from my Biggest Loser workout yesterday.

My totals for today:

Speed: 3.0 --> 3.5 for warm up, 4.0 for jogs/3.4 for brisk walks, 3.4 --> 3.0 cool down
Duration: 30 minutes
Distance: 1.75 miles

Let us know when you decide. ;)

I'm amazed at how many people I know who are doing the half in January! So many of us on the C25K thread have already registered. Very exciting. :goodvibes

I want to try that smoothie. Sounds like a great way to start the day, especially when you don't have time to sit and eat.

There are so many ways you can do a smoothie. The thing I like most about this recipe is adding in the oats. :thumbsup2

I was thinking about you earlier tonight. My kids and I were watching the Hunt for Red October, and kept thinking that you DH is in the Navy. Is he on a ship or landbased?? Such a great movie!!! We always laugh at the Russian. Sean Connery has the WORST Russian accent EVER!! So funny!

My parents and husband love that movie but I find it boring. :rolleyes1 He is on an aircraft carrier that is currently deployed to the gulf. After this deployment, the ship will come back to Norfolk and be in dry docks for a while getting repairs. We're hoping it'll be a good long while before they're deployed again.

My husband has been in the navy for almost 17 years and this is the FIRST time he's every been stationed on a ship.

So correct me if I'm wrong... (which I've been known to be lately :rolleyes1) you are hoping he will be back in time for him to go with you, right?? That would really be magical, if so.

Yes. He should be back this summer. But, even if he's back from deployment, I'm not sure they'll let him take leave so soon after the holidays. We're used to him having a pretty flexible schedule at all of the other duty stations he's been at, but they seem more strict with the ships. We'll have to wait and see what happens.

You're doing great Carissa! I'm so proud of you...running is something I don't think I'd even attempt!

I did get what you were saying about the BL workouts. :goodvibes The only time I have a hard time following along is when we are doing an activity that is both arms and legs...I get really confused and have to watch for a minute before I can get it! I have ZERO coordination!! LOL!

We've stayed at POR twice and haven't managed to see YeeHaw Bob's piano show. It will have to go on the list for next time!

My weigh in was ok...no weight loss this week, but stayed the same. I guess no loss is better than a gain! I'll just keep plugging along and hope to see a good result on the scale next week. :confused3

I know what you mean. Yesterday I did the upper body workout and it took me a bit to get the whole punch, step, kick thing going. :rolleyes1

It's funny how we wish to do things, that we can't.
Me and my dh have done all the nice quiet things at WDW
and we are missing the days, where we had small kids.
We keep telling our kids-get dating-we are waiting for Grandkids.
Our grandkids are going to be so WDW spoiled.
But I still think you should do the romantic weekend.
All parents need once in their kids lifetimes,
away from the kids.

Good job moving into week 3.
I just started with week 1 and I think I am going to make one week last a month. I gots lots of weight to loose.:rotfl:
and that lots of weight to move.

Great job Carissa! :cheer2:

I haven't had such a great week... Was supposed to workout Friday but my head was throbbing so I didn't... Woke up this morning feeling like I got hit in the head with a baseball bat! Went to the doctors... sinus infection! :headache:

I'll try to get back in the swing of things next week!

Great job on W3D1! :cheer2:

Funny how that happens, huh? :teeth: And it just continues! yay!

I'm back to kind of enjoying the runs again so that's good. :thumbsup2

I think that's very true. And I'm sure there will be moments we'll be missing the kids and wishing they were with us. But, we definitely deserve (and need) some time alone.

It's amazing how after only 2 weeks I already feel a difference. I went outside to check the mail today and it was freezing cold. So, I started running back to the house. Normally, I wouldn't be able to run very far without getting out of breath or feeling like I was about to drop dead. :rolleyes1 But, today, no problems. Felt like I could have kept going. That was a great feeling. :goodvibes

Great job Carissa! :cheer2:

It stinks when something like illness hits us and affects our workouts. I woke up this morning and had a slight headache and thought one of my bi-monthly migraines was going to hit and I wouldn't be able to run. But, I took some drugs and went back to sleep and all was well.

Get better soon, Amy! :goodvibes

You are doing so, so well!! I'm so proud of you, and impressed with your determintation!

I just learned that my DH has picked me up a couple of aerobics videos, as well as a stayball and video! Hopefully that will add a nice variety into my weather induced exercise regimen.

Keep up the good work!!

Liesa

Carissa, I am sooooo glad you told me about the oats in your smoothie. Like I told you on FB, I HATE, I LOATHE oatmeal. :crazy2: Growing up in my house, my Mom was a nurse and she was off to work very early, we never saw her in the morning. Dad got all 5 kiddos up every single day and all 4 of my siblings LOVED  oatmeal
except Kar. :crazy2:

My (85yo) parents STILL to this very day make their hot oatmeal every single morning. Anyway, as I got older and started to do allot of reading about health and nutrition, every where I read said to "start your day with a dish of hot oatmeal due all its wonderful benefits".....ugh. :sad2:

Now, you have given me an awesome  idea to add it to my smoothie. WooHooTy!!! :woohoo: I am headed out later on to hit Whole Foods!!!!:thumbsup2
