My Magical Journey to Running the Half Marathon TR Link! p.107

Great job on Week 2, day 1:cheer2: I'm happy to hear you aren't feeling the aches and pains as much. Your body is getting used to the whole running thing and one day you'll realize it just feels normal to run. (I can't predict exactly when that will be. It comes easier to some than others:confused3)

Oh and Colin Firth is Mr. Darcy:lovestruc

~ Week 2 Day 1 ~

On Tuesday I finished up week 1 of the program. I mentioned that I would continue with week 1 for another week. Well, I decided to go ahead and give week 2 a try just to see if I could do it. Let me rephrase that. I knew I could do it, I just wasn't sure how tough it would be for me. :rolleyes1

Week 2 consists of 6 cycles - 90 seconds running/2 minutes brisk walking. Even though my walk times were increased by 30 seconds this week, I found those two minutes went by far, far too quickly! I'd hear the speaker's voice coming back on to tell me it was time to run again and I would be thinking, "Please! Not yet! I haven't gotten my breath back." :headache:

I am happy to report that I did complete the workout. The last run was VERY difficult and I really didn't think I was going to be able to finish it. I admit I stopped a few seconds short of the expected 90, but I'm not going to beat myself up over that.

The discomfort I was having last week is really improving. I felt some of it today, but not nearly as much and not immediately. My thighs were more sore and tired during the run than anything. I think that's a good thing? :confused3

It's funny how this program makes me feel or the aspect of running in general. I get both excited and nervous about tackling each day on the treadmill. Part of me fears it. I'm afraid I won't be able to do it or I will find it too difficult. But, I push myself through it and in the end I feel empowered for making my body do something my mind didn't think it could. :thumbsup2

So, to week 2 I say, "Bring it on!!" :dancer:

My totals for today:

Speed: 3.0 --> 3.5 for warm up, 4.0 for jogs/3.5 for brisk walks, 3.5 -->3.0 cool down
Duration: 30 minutes
Distance: 1.8 miles

That's exactly how I feel about excited and nervous. I so hate to fail! But if I don't fail I've never tried right? HUGE congrats to you for even starting, let alone finishing it! :cheer2: Girl you are a RUNNER!!! How does it feel??

I am such a dork I saw your congrats to jenjolt for losing 30 pounds and I got excited and thought "I didn't know I lost 30 pounds." :headache: It only lasted a moment though - in my defense I'm multitasking.:lmao: And yes jenjolt - congrats!!!! I will be joining you soon!

Does anyone know if there is any cute Disney running gear out there? I'm thinking that might make good rewards for myself.
COLOR]

I haven't looked into any Disney running gear (yet ;)) but I do have my eye on a running skirt that has a Minnie vibe, it is red with small white polka dots and a black mesh waistband found here www.runningskirts.com. Someone had mentioned on another thread that they were wearing this running skirt for the Donald this year and it has been on my W.I.S.H.list since.

Oh I forgot about the running clothes...WDW marathon stuff was available online, not suer if it still is...

But, you're trying to maintain a weight. I need to lose! I can't be thinking about sweets. I have zero willpower when it comes to limiting myself.
We eat dinner very early so there's no way I can go without something before bed. I've been limiting myself to either an apple or some plain popcorn. And tea.
I'll have to look up to see what a NALGENE is, but I drink quite a bit of water. I drink nothing else. If I drank water constantly all day, I would never leave the bathroom - seriously!!

Yes, you are exactly right, Carissa! You do not need to see any pics of SWEETS!
just yet :goodvibes
AND yes, with the boys, I am sure you are all eating earlier than I do (which is 7pm) !
FRUIT! :thumbsup2

:yay: Now here is your wonderful family ALONG with Oreo and Darwin!!!! :yay:
Boy, Carissa, Sully is a CLONE of Chuck!!! Owen looks like both of you and Connor is all you!!! (Just love all the boys names but sooooo partial to Connor and you know why!!!!!)

I thought I should post a few more pictures of my lovely family. My children may not be going along on this trip physically, but they're obviously a huge part of my life.

The one with me was taken a couple of years ago. And the one with Chuck was taken the evening before he deployed. From oldest to youngest, our boys are Sullivan, Owen, and Connor.

And my other two children

Oreo the Kitty Cat (Is that a PATS blanket behind Oreo?)

And Darwin the Russian Tortoise

Thanks Lessa for posting a Nalgene for Carissa!!! :thumbsup2

A Nalgene is a water bottle, typically holds 1L (32OZ) of water.

:dance3: :cheer2: WEEK 2 :dance3::cheer2:

Hey Carissa---Sounds like you are still trucking along with your running program. It's been cold here in Alabama ,(highs in the 40s.....NO ONE LAUGH---that is come cold stuff for us southerners!) so I have not been out to run since Sunday afternoon. *CRUD* :headache: --I feel my hips widening, as I speak!

Trying to talk my friend and co-teacher to start the same program you're doing, so we can run a 5K together at the end of April.

Even though I grew up in Maine, living in Australia changed my blood. :rotfl: I just can't handle the cold anymore. And to me, 40s for a high is kinda cold! The coldest it's been here in Virginia Beach this winter is 30s and 40s for highs. I can handle the 40s, but not the 30s.

How cool to have someone to do the 5K with! I can't wait to hear about your experience. :cool1:

WOOT!! Congrats on starting part 2 that is fantastic!!!

Thanks!

I'm looking forward to that moment!

Yes, he plays the role wonderfully. I really loved the movie version, but I'm enjoying this mini-series even more.

I don't know if I consider myself a runner yet, but I'm getting there! :thumbsup2

Thanks for the link! The only way I could do running skirts at this point is if I were wearing something underneath otherwise there would be lots of chafing.

Do you know where? Through the Disney website?

(Is that a PATS blanket behind Oreo?)

Why, yes it is. :thumbsup2 In fact, it's both a Pats blanket and a Sox blanket. :goodvibes I made it a while back and I LOVE it!

Good for you for stepping it up and pushing through! Sometimes it's just about not quitting!

My workouts are going well...we've moved from light workouts to moderate workouts. They used to be 18 minutes (plus warm up and cool down) but now we're up to 30. Definitely more challenging and my body is feeling it!

I weigh in tomorrow so I'll let you know if I'm seeing any results! :)

I requested The Biggest Loser from Gamefly so it should get here soon. I'll let you know what I think. I'll be trying it out on some of non-program days.

Good luck tomorrow! My weigh-in days are Monday. :thumbsup2

Is gamefly a way to rent the games?

Yep the clothes are on the disney website through the link Jenny posted...I love the "in training for the 1/2" I think that would be motivational!

Yes it is. Just like Netflix. :thumbsup2 They have all of the different gaming systems.

I agree! I'm off to check it out.

Way to go on W2D1!!! That's GREAT you were able to do it when you thought you weren't ready!

I don't remember if I had any rewards for myself when doing C25K... For me that amazing feeling of progressing through each week was reward. I LOVE that sense of accomplishment.

That's a neat blanket. Did you just use two sheets of the fleece and tie them together with all those tied ends?

I realize I should be sore from doing the lunges. Just not sure it was the smartest thing to do the day before my run. I took it easy on my legs today.

General rule in strength training is to alternate the muscles that you are working on so it's more of an every other day, you can do legs one day, arms the next, then legs, then arms etc. Abs can be every day though.

Where it gets wonky is if your cardio is using the same muscles. Theoretically, because you will be sore the day after or even the second day of strength training, it can be better to run and do lunges on the same day since you won't actually be sore yet, then rest the next. But if you are running every day...that really won't work!

Yes. It's called a tied-fleece blanket. They're very easy to make and so awesome to cuddle with when it's cold. :goodvibes

You're so smart, Cynthia. :thumbsup2 I hadn't even thought of that. And I'm not running every day. I only run 3 days a week. :thumbsup2

Do you mean which program? If you go to my first post there are links to all of the installments. Go to the one that says "The Plan." There is a link in there for Couch to 5K. :thumbsup2

An Austen fan! :cool1: I just finished the first disc of Pride and Prejudice - the one with Colin Firth. I am so loving it!

That is so funny because just yesterday I was doing the exact same thing with my laundry!! :rotfl:

How did I miss that??!! Yes, that's what I'm talking about! Going to look at it now...

YES!! Austen all the way! :cloud9: P&P- the ONLY good one is the one with Jennifer Ehle! We watch it about once every quarter. We have it memorized.

That's the kind of blanket I mention in my flashback TR in my PTR....that we had to take 4 of them to Europe to give as gifts from my Mom. My Belgian brother thought it was hilarious that our luggage was stuffed with those things.

Great job....you almost making me want to go out for a walk....almost.

:rotfl: That's half the battle.

I also liked the movie version with Keira Knightley, but I saw it before I saw this series (which I finished last night).
