My Magical Journey to Running the Half Marathon TR Link! p.107

All I can say is that it will be nice to be back in a place next Sept. that is more lending of itself to exercise. No sidewalks, maniac drivers, no WII, icy roads, etc... make it really difficult. But I promised maroo I'd think about the 2011 half, so that's out there for me.

Hey Carrisa!! I'm about to have a skype call with a someone, but will be back later to catch up!! Don't let the thread get too long!! :lmao:

Everyone is using skype these days! It was even in a book I read recently.

That would be awesome if you did! I know so many people who are going to be there next year. :thumbsup2

Hey Carissa! Good for you for not beating yourself up about skipping a day or two. Just get back on track and move forward! :thumbsup2

And I love the conversation you had with yourself! I have a similar one almost every day!! I just keep telling myself how nice it will be when I can wear clothes off the "normal" size racks and like what I see when I look in the mirror.

On that note....I lost 4 pounds this week! My 4 week total is 9 pounds.....YAY! :yay:

You're doing so great! I'm so proud of you. :goodvibes

That's great!
I laugh when I think back on the years when I was slim and fit and how I would complain that I was fat.

 Me too....Didn't we have a distorted body image? I am about 20 lbs. of what I weighed when I married 20 years ago (after having lost 35 lbs. in the past 5 months.) I'm thinking I look pretty good, but remember when I got married thinking that I was heavy. Wow....Now I can't wait to get back to that size!

In other exciting news, we got a snowstorm yesterday!! Virginia Beach rarely gets snow, and when it does, it's only an inch or so. We ended up with 6 - 9 inches!

That's just crazy---living somewhere with BEACH in the city's name, and getting snow! :rotfl: Looks like your kids enjoyed it!

Good job getting on the treadmill! So much of training is a mental thing. I just always try to remember that I have never regretted doing a run after I'm done, but I often regret it when I skip a run. Just keep moving forward! (I finally saw Meet the Robinsons last night;))

:rotfl: They enjoyed it somewhat. The younger two got cold pretty fast and didn't like the snow pelting them in the face. They played outside a bit longer today because the sun was out, but they still got wet very quickly. I think they like the idea of snow more than the reality. ;)

That's a great way of thinking about it! And so true. :thumbsup2

What did you think??

You're so smart, Cynthia. :thumbsup2 I hadn't even thought of that. And I'm not running every day. I only run 3 days a week. :thumbsup2

Nah, not smart at ALL, just have worked with trainers before and have a husband who likes to remind me of things I already know! So if you alternate your trainings you will give your various muscle groups time to recover.

It's a slippery slope though. I'll be at the gym and I'll do the legs and abs and back and then go, oh I shouldn't do my arms today, I'll do them tomorrow.

And then I don't go to the gym "tomorrow".

Here's a tip for you, yesterday I put some disney music on my i-pod for my next trip and yesterday when I went for a run it came on and really motivated me. I thought about all of the disney marathon runners and I thought that would be a good motivation for them:goodvibes

Playlists are a WONDERFUL thing. I have some serious stuff on my ipod for cardio and it really helps!

:thumbsup2

Oh, the boys look as though they are lovin' all that snow!

Good job getting back into your routine! :thumbsup2

Hi,
It took me 2 days, to get through the thread. I didn't want to miss anything, because I knew there would be great things in between your posts.

Question 1. How far is the 1/2 marathon-I think I know, but just not sure.

You are doing a great job.

I already found many things that I am doing wrong. I had no idea to start out jogging slower. I've been doing 45 minutes on my elipctic trainer, to get my cardio workout, and then I was doing training on a treadmill. I am walking 4 minutes and running 1 minutes, and realized I am running to fast. 5.2. I realized 5.2 was to fast and I went down to 5.0, but my heart rate is 175 in that minute. I am going to really slow it down.

2nd Question, do you have a program for your treadmill to increase/decrease for you. I use one of the older treadmills at the YMCA and they have to be decreased/increased manually. If the newer treadmills can do this for me, I'd be much happier, I feel like I am always loosing my balance when I am pushing the buttons.

If you are going to rent points, you can do so at the 11 month mark, if a member belongs to a certain resort. If a DVC member don't belong to lets say the Beach Club, then they can book at the 7 month mark.

You have to look at "how many points" it will take for each nite,
but have an agreement with the DVC member, for how much they want to rent the points for. A couple of years ago, people were renting out points for almost $12-$14 a point. With the bad economy-it has gotten much better.

I rent from an owner for $10, and when I looked at the DVC Boards, it is pretty much now at the $10 per point mark. If you can get $8 or $9 a point, it will be a huge bargain.

I would go to the "Wanted to Rent Points" and put in for your DVC resort and see if there is anything, plus read the Points for Rent Board, and maybe someone has there points for rent. Those usually go really fast.

Look at all that snow!! I'd imagine that an hour of shovelling would be a pretty good workout!! :lmao::confused3

Just a heads up!! I just put up the new thread- I hope ya'll will join us over there tons 'o fun!! I went with An Invasion of a Stranger Kind.

Thanks Kathy!

Hi,

Question 1. How far is the 1/2 marathon-I think I know, but just not sure.

Hi Marisa!

A half-marathon is 13.1 miles.

Each person is going to be different with regards to speed on a treadmill. 5.0 or higher does seem pretty high for someone starting out, but you have to go by how you feel. I could do a higher speed, but it would be even harder for me to complete my runs. In the beginning you're wanting to build endurance - to be able to run for longer periods of time. Once you have that down, you can work on increasing your speed.

My treadmill has programs on it and I *believe* I might be able to set up my own, but I haven't tried and I don't know where my booklet is. :rolleyes1 I just listen to the podcast and when it tells me to run, I increase my speed. There are buttons right on the hand bars to my right so it isn't difficult for me. Someone else might be able to better answer this question for you.

Thanks for all of the info on DVC and renting points. :thumbsup2

Thankfully, we don't have a driveway to shovel. We just had to do the walkway. I did get out there yesterday after my run and shovel some and my arm was killing me!

Wow that's a lot of snow for the Virginia! I'm kind of glad it bypassed NY. It's beautiful while it's falling, but a mess to get around in.

You're doing great on your running program. I'm thinking of starting it as well. I love how it eases you into it.

It's more of a mess to get around down here too because they don't do much with the side roads. It's two days after the storm and my development is a layer of sheer ice. Schools are closed because it's too dangerous for the buses to get out. Hoping a lot of it melts today because I need to get to the store!

Cool! Let us know if you start and what you think. :goodvibes

That is dangerous! Does anyone salt the roads walkways? I hope you can make it to the store soon :)

I will definitely let you know when I start. Last week, I twisted my foot in a pothole when getting out of the car. I've been a little sore, but luckily nothing major. I'm hoping to start in two weeks, over February break. I'm trying to decide if running in the morning or evening would be best.

I don't think they spend too much on the side roads period. I'm sure the walkways aren't salted. This is very unusual to get this much snow and thankfully it should be all gone by the end of the week. :thumbsup2

I can't run in the evening because I'm just too tired by then. But, since we homeschool and I don't work outside of the home, my schedule is very flexible. I don't have to workout right when I wake up. I usually do it around 9 a.m.

:sad2: "Because! That is not challenging for you! You need something that pushes you to your limits. Taking up running and setting goals for 5Ks and half marathons is going to get you in shape and empower you."

"Are you seriously going to wimp out on me?? I know you are stronger than that. You may not realize you are, but I know it."

"I don't care if you like it or not right now. Just go through the motions. Eventually it will get easier and you'll look amazing and you can thank me profusely then."

Trent is a personal trainer. I think he says things like this to people every day. I don't they like it at first, but within a few sessions, they are bragging about how good they feel about their accomplishments.

Cute snow fun pictures of the boys. I know they had a big time! We rarely get it here, either, so our TN kids have loved the sledding and the days out of school. :)

Hey! Look at that! I truly am my own personal trainer. :thumbsup2

Once the ice started melting with the sun shining bright, we headed out for a couple of errands. The roads are pretty bad, but my northern girl driving abilities kicked in. :goodvibes

Your conversation with yourself was cracking me up!! So funny!
