while I was moving it in my eye...which has never happened to me in 40 years.

I called the eye doctor to ask if I could get a replacement (for no charge) and they told me that the manufacturer would replace it for 1/2 price. There is no insurance option at my eye doctor.

I was wondering if anyone agreed with me that I should not have to pay for a replacement.

thank you!

I'm actually a little surprised they're offering a replacement at half price.

You can shop around and see if there's a better deal anywhere.

My kids wear disposables so I'm only familiar with those costs. How much is the replacement?

I'm sort of surprised they are offering anything. They have no way of knowing if it broke because it was defective or because you mishandled it.

No. I agree with those who have mentioned that without a specific policy insuring the lenses, loss or damage is on you.

Why do you think you should get a free replacement?

I'm more freaked that it broke IN YOUR EYE!:scared: I have worn hard and then GP lenses from 42 years and have never heard of a lenses breaking in an eye. As far as the replacement, unless the lenses were brand new, I think you are on the hook for the other half of the cost.

My mom wears those. Now she has VSP but if they broke (and I'm not sure that has happened to her in all the years she's been wearing them) VSP would only come into play if it had been a year since she last went to the eye doctor and then what it would do is she would need to go to the eye doctor to order new ones that would be covered under VSP. Now I don't know how much she pays for them though with VSP coming into play. I believe if she was under the year mark she would be completely fully responsible for the cost for replacement.

This would be the same situation for me as well and I wear soft lenses.

VSP covers new lenses (whether in glasses or contacts) every year (as long as it's been a full year though) and new glasses frames every 2 years. Typically with me and VSP included I pay roughly $4 or $5 per eye for a 12 month supply of soft lenses (that are monthly ones) and then you add on the exam visit fee and whatnot.

I know you said there is no insurance option at your eye doctor but I'm thinking (and I could be wrong) in that there are still restrictions on coverage based on when you purchased them. I'm surprised they are offering to pay half.

Thanks!! They were only a couple of months old; I think it may end up costing me about $45 for a replacement.

I don't agree with you, actually. I have never had contacts replaced for free when they are damaged. Unless there is some kind of warranty or guarantee, you will need to pay for a new lens.

Free replacement isn't unusual for disposable soft lenses. When I was wearing contacts I tore a few and walked into my optician, who asked an optometrist for a trial lens to replace the torn one. Trial lenses are exactly the same as retail ones.

Gas perms are another matter. They're not really cheap like molded soft lenses.

Yes but you know your eye doctor has to have your exact prescription in house to even be able to give you one even after your eye appointment. Having an astigmatism lessens that chance of them having it as well as just how bad is your eyesight.

Contact the manufacturer directly, they may have a warranty period and you may still be in it. Skip your eye doctor.
