I thought I'd share my first attempt at an altered puzzle.

I found these cute wooden 7x7 puzzles in the Dollar spot at Target:

I kept it very simple for my first try - a theme of my favorite Disney characters, using only scraps and embellishments and I gave myself a time limit of one evening. I'll definitely be doing more of these!!

That is cool! :thumbsup2 I have never seen one done before! This should be our next cyber class! :teeth:

That is SO COOL! Great Job!

That is fantastic! If you can get the puzzles cheap enough (say from a $ store) you could use up spare stuff for bazaars etc.

What paint did you use?

That is so cute!!
Would love to try that with a Christmas theme.

Wow! I really like that! For your first time it looks like your a pro at it!!!! Great job! Also good for you for being so brave for trying it out first!!!! It looks so cool!!!! I will have to try one now!!!!

Thanks everyone!

I totally agree about it being a great craft for bazaars, etc. I'm already thinking about gift ones I could make.

I used regular acrylic paint. Unless it's black, it won't cover the numbers on the pieces (because I did paint those too to see how they came out) but it was fine for the frame.

As far as a cyber class I can give you instructions right now - it's super easy - paint the frame if you desire, then trace around each piece onto whichever patterned paper you'd like. I found it easier to embellish the paper piece then attach it to the puzzle piece itself. Then put it all back together!

I haven't done either yet, but I will glue them into the frame when I want to hang it on the wall. Right now they're locked into each other so I can lift the whole thing out of the frame. As far as a gloss I thought about it, but no I didn't do that either. It's "bumpy" so Modge-Podge wouldn't work. I think I have some clear sealer type spray down the cellar somewhere, I'll have to do some digging.

Oh, if MY SS is lurking, this would make an awesome "hand-crafted" last SS gift. Hint, Hint, Hint, :badpc: Okay forget subtle, PLEASE make me one.

You could probably use the spray sealant/varnish gamers use (Warhammer etc.) - I think it comes matt and shiny, but anyway it would help protect some of the embellishments. Or would it make things too stiff?

Oh my goodness that is toooo cute! I'm gonna have to try this, so I'm adding the puzzles to my ever growing black Friday "things to get" list. :thumbsup2

I bought myself a puzzle today. I am going to try to alter one! Thanks for the inspiration. :thumbsup2
