I decided that I wanted to stop paying for organic eggs and get some laying hens. In order to get the hens, I had to order 25 chicks (they need to have that many to keep each other warm in shipping). They actually sent 33 (help me!) in case any were roosters. So, now DH is going a bit nuts (you said THREE!). I found 2 friends who took 21 of them and so I now have a dozen.
I have 6 different breeds and kept 2 of each. I've named the "girls" after Disney Princesses and characters:
Light Brahmas (look like baby eagles)- from Asia so named them Mulan and Ariel
Black Australorps- Australian breed- went with Jasmine and Mary Poppins (brunettes!)
Araucanas- South American "Easter Egg Chickens"- Fauna and Merryweather
Buff Orpingtons- British- Cinderella and Aurora (blondes)
Silver Laced Wyondottes- American- Belle and Snow White
Barred Plymouth Rocks- American- Tinkerbell and Wendy
Wait until DH sees the plans I have for the Wilderness Lodge coop!

I like it! I wanted to get some chicks, but my husband refuses! We can buy organics pretty cheaply, so that won't work!
